But you’re not really far off as the Mameluke form goes way beyond to Persian Simshir and was widely used by Ottomans as well in different forms.
Turkish delegation seems to present these to Indonesian dignitaries (one had been presented to Indonesian Minister of Defense couple days ago).
I personally think it is a more befitting gift for a soldier and this time Turks got it right
