Deterrence to who? Our immediate neighbors have far superior BVR capability and the PLAAF operates the same aircraft along with copies that are arguably much more advanced than the Su-30s we currently operate.

They use AESA radar on the latest model since 2016 at least

Wait what?

Holup

We don't make our own barrels?!

what in tarnation

I think we do, the imported one is the steel material. We cannot blame Pindad since it is the areas that only steel maker can produce. Steel industry is still the mother of industry. One of main reasons of why our steel maker dont provide the material is also due to low demand from our domestic market and they need to compete with world players if they want to provide global demand to make the production profitable enough.

So it may be more of a problem of economic of scale and business strategy then the capability itself ( sure there should be R&D program to make it happen first).

We are 11 days towards the end of the year, let's see if there's any Rafale contract signed.

And not just Rafale, any major weapons contract.

Obviously they don't want to rush it, because they are wary of being shorted on the deal (which is understandable). If I were in their position I would also do the same. Obviously the problem is, it is very urgent for us to get more capable & numerous platform whatever that is. The longer the deal in the drafting the more the chance of another "procurement drama" that will potentially be cancelling everything to the point we could end up with no new platform whatsoever

"procurement drama"
Yeah but that's the fun and what brought us here together, some of the drama is even better than k-drama wkwkwkwk. Just look at the submarine procurement drama, it's been going on for over a decade, probably almost as long as The Simpsons!

Back to the topic on hand. I assume the short delivery timeframe is part of the critical requirement demanded by our side, and I suspect is ONE of the reasons why the F-35 is not available to us. I wonder if the upcoming French deals will come with some kind of stop-gap à la Hellenic Air Force deal.

"The delegation also visited one of Turkey's leading defense industry companies, Havelsan, and met pilots from the Indonesian Air Force who are currently being trained in Havelsan."

anyone know any info what kind of training they've got there ?

US products has a big chance to be signed first imo. Their current administration seems to be eager to close the deal before the replacement comes in. Perhaps if we made our decission fast enough we can gain more in terms of the deal.

Thanks to the devil I never watch K-drama then. Although that mostly because I couldn't even afford to buy any TV

They better be. Considering the need in our side is quite urgent. Thus, the need for the aircraft type for training & familiarization

Neither have I, thank god, but I'm aware of the meme lol. Looking at the Indian deal, it took Dassault about 4 years to begin delivery, which is pretty good for us. Meanwhile, the deal with Greece projected to commence delivery in around 3 years' time.

With the sole exception of the Typhoon, any fighter we procure would face delayed delivery due to worldwide reduction of industrial capacity in general. Let's say both Rafale deal from Greece & Indonesia went through. Does Dassault have enough capacity to deliver to all their customer within a reasonable amount of time? 3 - 4 years is quite long for Indonesia case, considering the situation up north
