what in the tarnation? ok then, let's try rationalize this news from the requirement perspective can we?
so, the F-15 EX to replace F-5 right? since it's heavy-interceptor fighter, but why rafale still in list this? i'm sorry if this just an asumption but what if, just what if, rafale still in this list because some top brass want to phased hawk faster because recent accident? especially when looking at the tupoksi of the ska 1 and ska 12 that covering the contested airspace over natuna? and please note that our sukhoi fleet are "relatively" new, compared to hawk that fly since '96

originally hawk would be replaced by f16, but our mighty lord mindef dont want a single engine jet, so thats why rafale is in the table i think

Terpesona saya...
Ah well, I'm happy they're really considering F-15EX. But if life has taught me anything, is that you just can't have too much of expectation - not until it's finalized and the jets have started to arrive.

Though F15 EX is more omnirole compared to Rafale had more range and weapon loads capacity, but hey i don't care about that. That's a big beast in the Air Force, 36 F15EX plus 36 Rafale R3 plus the already 33 F16 id we had and at least 16 Flanker, we are gonna roll and rocks since the late Soekarno era!!!

Will it be confirmed soon? Both F-15 EX and Rafale?.....36 each?

There will be good tactics on offer for TNI to develop here (and integration among all service branches).... it can also do lot of DACT exercise with itself to develop good doctrines on key maritime interdiction that will be what Indonesia really need going forwards.

i.e No other country in immediate region has rafale...so there is ace up sleeve stuff to develop even on just that basis.

Of even more relevance though is the biggest threat projecting into natuna that will feel this deterrent power and think twice or more because F-15 platform will offer significant air superiority for TNI-AU on any long range asset opponent sends to cover their strike force etc.... while rafale, F-16 and flankers can focus on Air to sea or air to ground.

Along with the relevant AWACS and refuellers, Indonesia should look at dedicated satellite infra too for best robust C4I architecture....so there is full gamut of sensor profile linked in broadband way across TNI.

the question is : if we want F15 arrived before 2022, how do we train the pilot? since we need to send the pilot to US, as familization for this kind of beast.
There's also Singapore, their instructors already wrote half of our Air Force's training curriculum anyways.

this is crunch

I won't read into it too much. Its feel more like something that was "leaked" just to get the hype up.

Yup , another classic indonesian baiting tactic . Just pit the vendor among themselves and the real pricing deal soon would be revealed and then get the contract ready to be processed
Remember ... Taman suropati only allocated $ 1,6 for these and i haven't heard another added number as yet

That $1.6 bil is just from one single fiscal year (2020), and only for fighter purchase. That's solid number.

If that's a baiting tactic then it's a bad one. You don't show off telling public that you have $1.6 bil to spend from just one year budget planning.

1.6 for the " interceptor " was the allready aproved sum . We haven't heard a new number . Basically is this .... While finance minister provide the funding taman suropati was doing a more comprehensive calculation and whole a lot other issue to cater the said plan added cost and benefit which measured in decades . Like crew housing , annual maintenancing budget , new supporting infras , payment on the loan schemes and etc . And they always strive to keep the state balance green . And believe me , they had the veto power even to presiden himself ( albeit in the more closed room and minus press coverage tho' )
So , unless the new wish list we heard yesterday get their approval i'm still in the waiting mode for now .

I have a feeling this time its a different "thing". They can release "leaked" statement to media, but rarely I saw "leaked" statement being thrown in Rapat Pimpinan/Formal Meeting opening, specially the one with Pangab and all Kepala Staff present. TNI need strategic assest and it would be foolish if Mindef use this forum to say false bait statement regarding assets they going to use/get 😁

Maintenance and supporting infratructure cost aside, those 2 are reasonable compensation/jalan tengah to fulfill AU need for heavy fighter and reaching the quota numbers to get US products. Rafale to fulfill "diversification" and put those "embargo phobia" factions at ease.

Getting the EX first before the Rafale is also make sense as the budget is already there and if we remember what US Sec Def said when Mindef was there, "they going to offer the product with almost no waiting list". So this could be it.

All foreign loan will be executed through yearly APBN. So every number that comes out is based on yearly budgeting.

Here, check Chapter 15, verse 1 :

It means that $1.6 bil is coming from certain year (2020). Not total budgeting. So we can expect new number comes out every year.

Now how much we need to buy 36 Rafales + 36 F-15EX? Let's see :

- India buy 36 Rafale for $8.1 bil. We can assume this includes platform introduction cost.
- USAF buy 144 F-15EX for $22.89 bil. So for 36 jets it's about $5.7 bil. Let's add another $1 bil for platform introduction cost, so the total would be $6.7 bil.

It means we need $8.1 bil + $6.7 bil = $14.8 bil.

$1.6 bil from single year budgeting is very solid number.
