Austria will enter negotiations with Indonesia for the sale of 15 Eurofighters

Austria’s Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner has officially responded to Indonesia’s request to buy 15 Eurofighters from her country.

AIRPOWER16 - Die Vorbereitungen (29246694862)

Tanner said she had directed the General Staff to prepare for negotiations with Jakarta.

She said the “exit from the Eurofighter system” is the declared goal and the sale is in the best interest of taxpayers.

Two options are available for the sale to proceed. First, the Eurofighter consortium will have to issue a end user certificate to Indonesia and Austria will sell the jets directly to Indonesia. Alternatively, Airbus will buy back the planes, upgrade them and sell them to the South East Asian nation instead.

very bad idea, unless Indonesia is planning to retire the twin engined sukhoi's soon, I don't see where the Euro Canards fit. it'll be a logistical nightmare for the operator (ID Air Force)

Never mind logistical nightmare, I don't even see the budget that they currently have even allowing them to be able to operate all three together at the same time. The Flankers are notorious money pits. And the for the next few years it's going to take a lot of money for the Euro triangles to reach IOC/FOC. And (contrary to what anti-US Slavaboos here tout) the Air Force is highly unlikely to put their American workhorse on the chopping block.

Why Does it has a different radar cone paint scheme though? Anybody know the reason?

It was feature of the block 1.

They changed it in later block to grey, coz pilots complained it stuck out too much as a tactical cue for opposition etc.

As to why it was black in first place, I am unsure, likely something to do with a radar operation mode which needed low reflectivity..but found to be not too much an issue later. Its something I have seen with aircraft of that cold war era in general, I would have to look into it to understand it more.

Honestly this should be big reasoning to drop russian aircraft from TNI-AU and not acquire anymore in future. It will just cause interference and other issues and any workarounds are not optimal too.

Its just best to pick a side in your underlying C4I structure and build outwards from it.

@Chestnut
some people in the govt profited from a deal with the Russian's even though it will definitely hurt the user in this case the Air Force, that's the case with the SU-35 fiasco
