Feasibility study completed, STAL Technology ready for commercial scale

Jakarta (ANTARA) -- PT Hydrotech Metal Indonesia (HMI) has successfully completed a feasibility study on the Step Temperature Acid Leach (STAL) hydrometallurgical technology, which was carried out together with the professional consultant from Japan. In the feasibility study report released recently, the STAL technology feasibility study stage was stated to have been carried out successfully. It can proceed to the next step of preparation for commercial scale.

STAL technology is hydrometallurgical nickel processing technology owned by HMI, capable of processing low-grade nickel that has been deposited so far, with environmentally friendly technology and low costs. Meanwhile, HMI is a subsidiary of PT Trinitan Metals and Minerals Tbk (TMM) established in 2020 and is part of the Trinitan Group.

Responding to the completion of the feasibility study for STAL technology, President Director of HMI, Widodo Sucipto expressed his gratitude and his thankful to all parties involved in the implementation of the feasibility study. According to Widodo, the completion of this feasibility study is also good news for Indonesia, since STAL technology is a national technological innovation and able to proceed to the next stage of preparation for a commercial scale.

Furthermore, Widodo said that Indonesia needs the presence of technological innovations such as STAL technology, which can process Indonesia's natural wealth, to produce products that have added value.

"In the future, HMI as a technology-driven company will continue to strive to conduct research and technology development, in order to provide added value to Indonesia's abundant natural wealth," Widodo said.

Indonesia, USA discuss cooperation in vaccine supply, distribution

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi has discussed cooperation in the supply and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines with the United States (US) during a working visit, according to a press statement that ANTARA received here on Thursday.

He has convinced several American parties that the supply and distribution of vaccines is key to Indonesia's economic recovery, Lutfi said at the Indonesia-United States Trade and Investment Dialogue.

"Ensuring the availability and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines is a priority for the Indonesian government in handling this pandemic. The availability and distribution of vaccines will accelerate the national vaccination target for 208.2 million people," he said.

Dozens of US businessmen, including representatives from vaccine manufacturers Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson, participated in the business forum held at the Indonesian Embassy in Washington D.C.

The Indonesian government needs 426 million vaccine doses to meet its COVID-19 vaccination target by the end of 2021, Lutfi told the forum. Therefore, the government needs to establish cooperation with several parties to be able to handle the pandemic, he said.

In the meantime, the transmission of the Delta variant has led to an exponential increase in the number of COVID-19 patients in the country, he noted.

Besides the Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines, an mRNA-based vaccine is expected to be a solution for Indonesia to fight the Delta variant, Lutfi said.

The ministry is making a marathon effort to obtain vaccine supplies from the United States, he added.

During his visit, Lutfi also met with managing director of development policy and partnership for World Bank, Mari Elka Pangestu. He was accompanied by Investment Minister and head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Bahlil Lahadalia, and CEO of the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA), Ridha Wirakusumah.

Following the meeting, Lutfi said the World Bank has agreed that the key to Indonesia's economic recovery lies in the provision of COVID-19 vaccines. The World Bank has said it will continue to work with Indonesia to handle COVID-19 and develop the nation's health system, he added.

One day before meeting Pangestu, Minister Lutfi had met with the managing director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Makhtar Diop.

The meeting discussed funding cooperation to increase the supply chain of messenger RNA (mRNA)-based vaccines for Indonesia, Lutfi informed.

He said he emphasized the need for increasing the supply of vaccines based on mRNA technology to treat COVID-19 patients infected with the Delta variant during the meeting.

Related news: US announces shipment of 1.5 mln Moderna doses to Indonesia

"A vaccine developed based on messenger RNA (mRNA) technology is a solution against the latest variant of COVID-19. Therefore, Indonesia needs to accelerate the supply of the mRNA-based vaccine," he remarked.

At the end of his working visit to the US, Minister Lutfi met with the United States Trade Representative (USTR) Ambassador, Katherine Tai.

During the strategic meeting, USTR reaffirmed its commitment to addressing issues included in the US trade policy agenda, including employment issues or a worker-centered trade policy, the environment, and climate change, as well as WTO reform, Lutfi said.

He and Tai also discussed cooperation in handling COVID-19 and fisheries sector subsidies.

At the end of the meeting, they committed to strengthening cooperation through the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), G20 Summit 2021, and cooperation in the implementation of the 18th Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) in 2021.

The United States is one of Indonesia's main trading partners with bilateral trade between the nations reaching US$27.2 billion in 2020.

Indonesia's exports to the US touched US$18.62 billion last year, while its imports reached US$8.58 billion.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's trade balance against the US recorded a surplus of US$10.04 billion in 2020.

Indonesia thanks Japan, Australia, US for vaccine assistance

Indonesia thanks Japan, Australia, US for vaccine assistance

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin on Thursday thanked the governments of Japan, Australia, and the United States of America for providing vaccines and monetary assistance to support Indonesia's fight against COVID-19.

Indonesia has received 2.1 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine from Japan, he told a virtual press conference that ANTARA joined from Jakarta on Thursday.

"The AstraZeneca vaccines are the grant and donation from the government of Japan. This is not the last. There will likely be another (vaccine consignment from Japan),” Sadikin said.

The Australian government has donated 77 million Australian dollars to help Indonesia procure at least 10 million vaccine doses through the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) facility, he informed.

The US government has also promised to provide Indonesia with four million Moderna vaccines thanks to the efforts of Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, he added.

Indonesia has 43 million vaccines in stock which would suffice for 30 million citizens, he informed, adding that the government has been striving to raise the country's daily vaccination rate.

President Joko Widodo has set a target of boosting Indonesia's daily vaccination rate to one million doses by July this year, Sadikin noted.

The targeted daily vaccination rate has been reached, with the government administering 1.3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines as of June 26, 2021 alone with the help of the Indonesian military and police, local governments, and state and private enterprises, he added.

The COVID-19 pandemic initially struck the Chinese city of Wuhan in 2019 and subsequently spread across the globe, including to countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Indonesian government announced the country's first confirmed cases on March 2, 2020.

Since then, the central and regional governments have striven incessantly to flatten the nation's coronavirus curve by applying healthcare protocols and public activity restrictions.

As part of the efforts to win the fight against COVID-19, the Indonesian government has also been conducting a nationwide vaccination program to contain infections since January 13, 2021.

As of June 20, 2021, Indonesia has received 104,728,400 COVID-19 vaccines, comprising 94.5 million Sinovac vaccines, 8.228 million AstraZeneca vaccines, and 2 million Sinopharm vaccines. (INE)

Gov is working hard to replace Sinofac (?)

When you could get your self a more premium and trustable stuff why bother to the second/third rate one ....
Normally I would agree with such sentiment. However, in this case, I strongly doubt anyone knows enough about SARS-CoV-2 and all its strain to be able to make effective vaccine without any potential lethal side effect. What we do need right now is any vaccine that is easily transportable across the entire Nusantara. Keep in mind that those outside Java island are seriously neglect of health protocol, it's even worse with their gov't official whose still currently doing business as usual. I even notice there is a certain province (which I will not mention) that is more pro 🇨🇳 than pro 🇮🇩, while few others provinces are more pro to anyone who will come with a suitable religion + bag of $ for their own pockets

Indonesia's external debt declines to US$415 bln in May

16th Jul 2021 21:47
Indonesia's external debt declines to US$415 bln in May

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's external debt (ULN) declined 0.6 percent to US$415 billion in May, 2021 from US$417.6 billion in April, 2020, led by a narrowing of the government's external debt position, Bank Indonesia (BI) has said.

However, on an annual basis, Indonesia's external debt in May, 2021 swelled 3.1 percent, which was lower than the growth of 4.9 percent recorded in the previous month, it added.

"Indonesia's external debt structure in May, 2021 remained under control, as reflected in the ratio of Indonesia's external debt to gross domestic product (GDP), which was maintained at around 37.6 percent, a decrease compared to the ratio in the previous month of 37.9 percent," BI's communication department head, Erwin Haryono, informed in a statement released in Jakarta on Friday.

Indonesia's external debt structure remains healthy and is supported by the application of prudential principles, as demonstrated by the dominance of long-term debt, which accounts for 88.5 percent of the total foreign debt, he said. .

To maintain a healthy external debt structure, the central bank and the government will continue to strengthen coordination in monitoring its development, supported by the application of prudential principles in its management, he added.

The role of external debt will also continue to be optimized in supporting development financing and encouraging the National Economic Recovery (PEN) program by minimizing risks that can affect economic stability, Haryono said.

Related news: Indonesia's foreign debt swells 4% to $422.6 bln in Feb

The position of the government's external debt in May, 2021 was recorded at US$203.4 billion, down 1.3 percent compared to April, 2021, he informed.

"The position prompted a slowdown in the government's annual external debt growth to 5.9 percent in May, 2021 compared to 8.6 percent in April, 2021. The decline in the government's external debt position was in line with the falling payments of government securities (SBN) and loan in foreign currency, which was due in May, 2021," he said.

The government is committed to maintaining credibility by fulfilling debt obligations in a timely manner, as well as managing external debt in a prudent, credible, and accountable manner, so that the withdrawal of government external debt in May, 2021 will continue to be prioritized to support priority spending, including efforts to handle COVID-19 and the national economic recovery (PEN) program, Haryono said.

Expenditure will focus on the government administration, defense, and compulsory social security sector (17.8 percent of the total government external debt), the health services and social activities sector (17.2 percent), the education services sector (16.3 percent), the construction sector (15.4 percent), and the financial services and insurance sector (12.6 percent), he added.

"The position of the government's external debt is relatively safe and under control considering that almost all of it is long-term external debt, with a share of 99.99 percent of the government's total external debt," Haryono remarked.

Indonesia's manufactured goods exports soar in first half of 2021

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's exports of manufactured goods increased 33.45 percent to reach US$81.07 billion in the first half of 2021 as compared to the corresponding period last year, according to the Industry Ministry.

The manufacturing industry contributed 78.80 percent of Indonesia's total exports that reached US$102.87 billion in the first half of 2021.

"The government is making every effort to ensure that the industrial sector will remain productive and competitive to meet the market demand and contribute to easing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy," Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita noted in a written statement released on Sunday.

According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), despite the COVID-19 pandemic-induced pressure, the exports of manufactured goods rose 9.7 percent to reach US$14.08 billion in June 2021, from US$12.83 billion a month earlier.

The increase in exports of manufactured goods is expected to help expedite the national economic recovery.

The exports of manufactured goods, valued at US$14.08 billion in June 2021, contributed 75.91 percent of the national exports totaling US$18.55 billion.

The export performance suggested that the manufacturing industry remained the biggest contributor to the country's total exports in the first half of 2021.

"The large proportion of exports from the manufacturing industry shows a shift in Indonesia's exports, from primary commodities to manufactured goods that have high added value," he remarked.

Manufacturing industries that dominated exports in June 2021 comprised the iron and steel industry, with US$1.99 billion; animal and vegetable oil, with US$1.89 billion; electronic machine and appliances, with US$1 billion; vehicles and spare parts, with US$734.6 million; and rubber and rubber products, with US$605 million.

The improving export performance has led the country to record a trade surplus of US$11.86 billion in the first semester of 2021.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi has said he is optimistic that Indonesia's export performance will improve this year, as indicated by the trade surplus of $1.32 billion recorded in June. “Despite this pandemic, we are convinced of the excellent prospects of Indonesian commodities. We hope the prime commodities will keep contributing to our export performance and pursue this positive trend in future,” he said here on Thursday.

In June 2021, Indonesia's exports reached $18.55 billion, up 9.52 percent from May 2021 and 54.56 percent against June 2020. The biggest contribution of $17.31 billion to exports was from non-oil and gas commodities, he informed.

Exports of several non-oil and gas main commodities increased month-on-month in June, 2021. The exports of iron and steel rose by 32.31 percent; vehicles and the spare parts 42.19 percent; metal ore, slag, and ash 35.36 percent; machines and electrical equipment 15.87 percent; and. footwear 33.01 percent, he added.

The government has been reorganizing the industrial structure to support the export potential of industrial and high technology industrial goods, comprising iron, steel, and automotive, Lutfi said.

“The growth of iron and steel exports from January - June, 2021 proves that Indonesia is evolving from a raw and semi-processed materials producer to an industrial and high technology industrial goods manufacturer,” he emphasized.

The Trade Ministry is also building trade cooperation with the United Arab Emirates (UEA) to expand exports of jewelry, especially to the Middle East markets, he added.

The enforcement of travel restrictions contributed to a shortfall in the number of tourist arrivals in Bali.
Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - Forty-three foreign tourists visited the island of Bali in the first half of this year, a drop of 99.99 percent compared to the year-ago period, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Office in Bali informed.

Bali had received 1,069,171 foreign tourists in the January-June 2020 period, chief of BPS Office - Bali province, Hanif Yahya, said in a press statement released on Monday.

Of the 43 tourist arrivals in the January-June 2021 period, 10 were recorded in January, 12 in February, three in March, nine in April, eight in May, and one in June, he informed.

"The enforcement of travel restrictions contributed to a shortfall in the number of tourist arrivals in Bali," he said.

Meanwhile, chief of the Bali Provincial Tourism Office, Putu Astawa, said the drop in the number of tourist arrivals reflected the ongoing pandemic situation.

"(The data on tourist arrivals) is logical. Indeed, our tourism currently suffers greatly due to the pandemic," he said.

Data from the BPS Office also show the room occupancy rate at star hotels in Bali reached 16.58 percent in June 2021, up 6.33 points compared to 10.35 percent the previous month.

Meanwhile, the room occupancy rate in non-star hotel hotels stood at 6.79 percent, up 1.50 points compared to May 2021.

The average length of stay at star hotels in Bali in June 2021 reached 1.88 days, down 0.14 points compared to 2.02 days in May 2021.

Pertamina to build 500-MW solar power plants

Beyond being eco-friendly, the solar power plants in the Pertamina Group are also efficient since the electricity costs are cheaper
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Pertamina New Renewable Energy (PNRE), a sub-holding of state-run oil company PT Pertamina (Persero), has set a target to build 500-megawatt (MW) solar power plants at several operation locations of the Pertamina Group.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PNRE Dannif Danusaputro pointed to the construction of the solar power plants being conducted gradually since the end of 2020.

"Beyond being eco-friendly, the solar power plants in the Pertamina Group are also efficient since the electricity costs are cheaper," Danusaputro noted in his statement here on Monday.

PNRE has completed the construction of solar power plants at the Badak LNG Terminal, Dumai Refinery, Cilacap Refinery, Sei Mangkei special economic zone (KEK), as well as several gas stations.

Construction of the eco-friendly power plant infrastructure aligns with Pertamina Group's goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent in 2030.

Danusaputro explained that the installed 500 MW solar power plants would help to reduce carbon emissions by 630 thousand tons of carbon dioxide per year.

He believes this move is part of the Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) roadmap integrated within Pertamina's business to support efforts to address the impacts of climate change.

"New and renewable energy development, including solar power plants, is a future investment for everybody, including entrepreneurs. Energy transition is what the world needs at the moment to ensure a healthy environment through clean energy application," he emphasized.

Climate change is a global threat that has been studied by scientists. It refers to the phenomenon wherein the development of nations across the world is accompanied by a rise in global temperatures.

To this end, countries worldwide are scrambling to keep global temperatures from rising above 1.5 degrees Celsius through measures including the development of renewable energy infrastructure, such solar power plants.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - State electricity company PT PLN announced that the Flores Island Supergrid in East Nusa Tenggara, spanning over 864 kilometres (kms), from Labuan Bajo on the island's west side to Maumere on the island's eastern side, was fully operational.

PT PLN Regional Business Director for Sulawesi, Maluku, Papua, and Nusa Tenggara regions Syamsul Huda stated that the total capacity of the electric grid facilities, reaching 225 megavolt ampere (MVA), is expected to attract investment and expedite economic development in Flores Island and the neighbouring regions.

"We believe that increasing electricity capacity is essential to improving the quality of life of residents and accelerating local activities," Huda noted in a release quoted in Jakarta, Saturday.

The current electrical grid in Flores Island has a total capacity of 104.1 megawatts (MW), with a maximum peak load of 71.6 MW to serve customers.

The super-grid system connects two separate electrical grid systems of the West Flores and East Flores grid plants.

Huda explained the West Flores grid system had a total capacity of 40.7 MW. The grid system in West Flores comprised the Rangko gas machine-fired power plant, with a capacity of 23 MW and the Golobilas diesel-fired power plant, with capacity of 3.4 MW, both in Labuan Bajo; Ulumbu geothermal power plant, with a capacity of 10 MW and Faobata Bajawa diesel-fired power plant, with capacity of 2.2 MW in Manggarai District, and other power stations.

He noted that the East Flores grid system had a total capacity of 63.4 MW, with supporting power stations being the Wewaria solar power plant and Waeblerer solar power plant, both with 1-MW capacity; Ndungga micro-hydro power plant, with a 2-MW capacity; Mautapaga diesel-fired power plant and Wolomarang diesel-fired power plant, both with 3-MW capacity; Ropa steam-fired power station, with 14-MW capacity; and Maumere gas engine-fired power plant, with a capacity of 40 MW, in Sikka District.

The merging of the two electric grid systems will increase Flores' electric resource reliability while concurrently making the system more efficient and lowering operational costs by three to four percent.

Currently, the electrification ratio in East Nusa Tenggara Province has reached 88.82 percent, with electrified villages having reached 96.57 percent as of June 2021.

Huda noted that PT PLN spent a total of Rp1.1 trillion (around US$75 million) to construct the Flores Supergrid and also drew attention to the most challenging aspect of the construction project being its remote location.

"Our main obstacle apart from land acquisition to construct electric towers was also the geographical challenge during construction. We need to deliver materials before constructing the foundation, completing the tower, and connecting the electric lines, all within remote locations, thereby forcing us to adapt to basic tools and rely on manpower," Huda expounded.
