Although, as usual, things have their own pros and cons, but if we're talking about education, I'm glad I'm not a U.S citizen.

Otherwise, I might still have to pay for my student loan even today.
That because they are a for profit industry. In fact the whole US of A are functioning more like "Incorporation" in the guise of a nation state. Even all the wars they involve in was for further advancing for profit enterprise.

Don't look too high upon US education institutions. They only look good from the outside (far outside). The closer you get, the more stink they will smell
Many ideas, science writings came out from US universities, don't forget also the experiences. That are really give the "wow" factor to US higher school (the well known).

Yes, there are a problems of student loan (education are not free), prefer more wealthy students, and else, but that bad images are helped by many R&D and other advance technologies came out from the US higher schools.

And the place where Pandu Sjahrir was graduated, University of Chicago, was an important part for the world history, Mazhab Chicago came out from there.

Wasn't referring to student loan, although that also bad by itself.
Anyway as I had stated earlier they only good if you're looking them from far far away. If you're in one of them, they smell like a rotten sewer rat.

BPDP-KS aims to achieve 2021 palm oil plantation rejuvenation target

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesia Oil Palm Plantations Fund Management Agency (BPDP-KS) remains unswerving in its endeavors to attain the target of small-scale palm oil plantation rejuvenation that will span an area of 180 thousand hectares in 2021.

"The target of small-scale plantation rejuvenation in 2021 would cover 180 thousand hectares of area, with funding allocation of Rp5.567 trillion," Chief of BPDP-KS' Steering Committee, Airlangga Hartarto, stated here on Saturday.

The agency will also support the implementation of the B30 biodiesel mandatory policy in 2021, Hartarto who concurrently the coordinating minister for economic affairs, remarked.

Hartarto noted that BPDP-KS and all stakeholders in the palm oil sector will design a more effective and efficient mechanism to achieve the target.

In addition, the government has continued to encourage the implementation of the B30 biodiesel mandatory policy, with allocation target set at 9.2 million kilo liters.

The palm oil rejuvenation plan aims to maintain stability in the price of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) and surplus of non-oil and gas trade balance, wherein the exports of palm oil and its derivative products contributed 12 percent of the trade.

With this commitment, the government is expected to achieve the target of securing 23 percent of its primary energy from renewable sources by 2025 in the energy mix program of the National Energy Policy (KEN), Hartarto stated. Strong possibility, the CEO for Indonesia's SWF will be Pandu Sjahrir. He is LBP's niece, but even though like that, it's ok for me, he is smart and experienced businessman.

Jebolan University of Chicago, place where the well known Milton Friedman was worked and Stanford University, you know lah Stanford.

Damn, just see the school, already make my eyes pedih.
The CEO is not LBP's niece, Pandu Sjahrir LOL

Asia-Pacific countries dominate Agility emerging markets index

Asia-Index-Top-3-China-India-Indonesia-1.jpg

SINGAPORE (ANTARA) –– Asia-Pacific nations lead all emerging market regions with China, India and Indonesia being the world’s top emerging markets in the 12th annual Agility Emerging Markets Logistics Index, a broad gauge of competitiveness based on logistics strength and business fundamentals.

The Index ranks 50 countries by factors that make them attractive to logistics providers, freight forwarders, shipping lines, air cargo carriers and distributors. Among ASEAN countries, Vietnam climbs three spots to No. 8 overall. Indonesia (3), Malaysia (5) and Thailand (11) are strong; the Philippines rises one spot to No. 21.

China and Vietnam were virtually alone in the world in 2020, posting positive GDP growth for the year after being hit early by economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Early 2020 supply disruptions in China prompted some to question whether it would experience an exodus of manufacturing by multi-nationals seeking to diversify sourcing and production. But the 1,200 logistics industry executives surveyed for Agility’s Index indicate little desire to uproot from China or other markets, preferring by a two-to-one margin to protect their supply chains by accelerating adoption of digital tools and technology (41.3%) as opposed to pursuing multi-shoring, near-shoring or reshoring strategies (21.9%).

“Asia Pacific experienced great turmoil in the beginning of 2020 due to the COVID-19 crisis, but it has rebounded strongly, led by the powerful performance of China and Vietnam. The region is on track for a full recovery this year,” says Andy Vargoczky, SVP of Sales & Marketing Asia-Pacific, Agility GIL. “India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam continue to improve their supply chain infrastructure and capabilities, showing why they are leaders in domestic and international logistics.”

Across 50 countries, China, India and Indonesia rank highest in the Index for domestic logistics. China, India and Mexico are on top for international logistics with Vietnam 4th, Indonesia 5th, and Malaysia 7th. UAE, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia have the best business fundamentals.

2021 Index and Survey Highlights

● The most competitive emerging markets are manufacturing powerhouses in Asia and the business-friendly economies in the Gulf region. From Asia, China (1), India (2), Indonesia (3), Malaysia (5) and Vietnam (8) made the top 10. Gulf nations United Arab Emirates (4), Saudi Arabia (6), Qatar (9) also ranked in the top 10. Mexico came in at 7th; Turkey was No. 10.

● The countries improving their domestic logistics strengths the most were Malaysia, Nigeria, Vietnam, Iran, Uruguay, Myanmar and Cambodia. The biggest strides in international logistics came from Morocco, Ukraine, Kenya, Myanmar and Paraguay.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Education and Culture Ministry has encouraged the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based digital talent in Indonesia.

"Now, we can see the emergence of unicorns and decacorns in Southeast Asia. Out of the 10 unicorns and decacorns in Southeast Asia, five were established and grew in Indonesia. We need to encourage the emergence of more digital startups that are based on technology- and creative innovation," the ministry's Director General of Higher Education Nizam stated during the virtual opening of the Bangkit 2021 Program here on Monday.

Nizam affirmed that creativity and innovation based on technological competencies, especially in digital technology and AI, would create digital startups that can transform into unicorns or also decacorns.

Drawing attention to the result of some studies, Nizam affirmed that in the next decade, the use of AI-based digital technology in Southeast Asia, especially in Indonesia, had the potential to create new economic value of US$360 billion.

"It is more than 50 percent of the potential growth in digital economy and AI-based economy in Southeast Asia," he stated.

The ministry, in cooperation with Google, organized the Bangkit 2021 Program to create a new talent pool with expertise in digital technology.

Under the program, participants will gain various digital competencies, including machine learning, cloud computing, UI, and UX.

"At the end of the program, the best participants will have the opportunity to receive training from Stanford University, through a special program prepared in 15 domestic universities," he revealed.

A total of 300 participants had attended the program in 2019.

"Now, out of the 40 thousand applicants, we have selected three thousand students to participate in the program," Nizam stated.

Asia Pacific Education Programs Lead of Google William Florance affirmed that the program was initiated to fill in the digital talent gap in technology companies.

Sojitz keen to develop methanol, ammonia industry in Indonesia

Sojitz keen to develop methanol, ammonia industry in Indonesia

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Sojitz Corporation of Japan has expressed interest to develop the methanol and ammonia industry in Indonesia on account of a spike in demand for downstream industries in the nation, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated.

During a work visit to Japan, Kartasasmita, in the company of Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Heri Akhmadi, met with the chemical industry company’s CEO to discuss development of the methanol industry in Indonesia.

"During the meeting, Sojitz expressed interest in developing the methanol and ammonia industry in the Bintuni Bay Industrial Area that will involve an investment of some five billion dollars," the minister noted in a statement issued from Tokyo on Saturday.

The Indonesian minister notified the president and CEO of Sojitz Corporation Fujimoto Masayoshi that the Bintuni project will be included as a National Strategic Project (PSN), thereby making it eligible to attain facilities and various incentives from the government.

“The petrochemical project in Bintuni Bay will be the largest, spanning an area of around two thousand hectares. We will discuss it further during our next visit in May," he remarked.

Sojitz Corporation's business in Indonesia includes the Kaltim Methanol Industry (KMI) in Bontang, East Kalimantan, which is the only methanol producer in Indonesia.

The company has an annual production capacity of 660 thousand metric tons.

"With domestic demand for methanol reaching around two million tons, the construction of a new methanol plant is direly needed," Kartasasmita pointed out.

Methanol raw materials are required in the textile, plastics, synthetic resin, pharmaceutical, insecticide, and plywood industries, among others. Methanol is also used as an antifreeze and inhibitor in oil and gas activities.

Furthermore, methanol is also one of the raw materials for manufacturing biodiesel.

"In 2020, the demand for methanol would also increase with the implementation of the mandatory biodiesel B30," he stated.

In order to realize the second methanol plant construction project, both governments must extend support to the development of the petrochemical industry in Bintuni, Kartasasmita stated.

Multi-year development of this industrial area is being conducted through a public-private partnership or PPP scheme.

Infrastructure in the area is targeted to be developed this year and continued with the construction of factories in 2022, so that tenants can start producing in 2024.

On the occasion, Kartasasmita also invited Sojitz to invest in the soda ash industry as a downstream of ammonia and to lower CO2 emissions from coal combustion.

"The government will provide certain incentives for pioneer industries, such as soda ash," he affirmed. Related news: Methanol industry anchor industry at Teluk Bintuni Industrial Estate: Minister
