I dont know so much about subs, INHO both of Scorpene and 214 has 1500+ tons and with moreless same capability.I agree, I'm just saying that buying into either the Scorpene or 214 (which are both used by our neighbor's navies) screams more about hanky-panky and parade military mindset than ACTUAL defense planning.

Lightweight surface combatant do have their role particularly in green water environment at western half of Indonesia internal waters, but then again that role typically also require packing bigger punch (AShM & LWT) and more horsepower (acceleration)our surface combatant that are too small *sigh
