are we going to keep this format where each branch got their sub forum or copy the format from def.pk where we combine all in 1 forum. cus i quite like the old format
I think we need to make it separate, on def,pk we don't have the luxury like the Turks, Iranian, Bangladeshis, Indians etc to have separate thread for our AF,Army and Navy.

but if many of you insisted all to be merged, than I'll try talk with the Administrator.
i wonder when will kri 401 finish her overhaul
she'll be in dockyard for long,
Nanggala entered the dockyard in 2008 and finishes the overhaul in 2012.

This one is fine. You just need to use bell icon to jump between threads

I agree, I'm just saying that buying into either the Scorpene or 214 (which are both used by our neighbor's navies) screams more about hanky-panky and parade military mindset than ACTUAL defense planning.

I am more for to follow the contract and going through with South Korean solution, we are had been with them for decades and now know how to negotiate with them and cons and pros of their solution.

Then since the beginning we are not pursue of technology advantage compared to our peer but more for number games and U209 of South Korean version is our answer.

I am more for this kind of format. Our old format is not easy to search old topics and left burried by newer news

actually I don't really like the idea of this tank boat.

I prefer simpler design.

OPV is a complex naval vessel??
Depends on sensors, weapons loaded. It depends on country's need and conflict environment,an OPV could be entirely weaponless and only with navigation radars, while some countries can desire one fully fledged as a destroyer.
Check out Italian PPA.
And so far i have laid my eyes on, the OPV designs which Indonesia is going to acquire has got heavy weapons and sensors on it, which will definitely be a complex vessel. If i am not mistaken PT DRU has collaborated with Damen, the payload is similar as Sigma class.

IMO: Remove all boat and LPD projects from PT PAL , convert it to Frigate / Corvette-OPV /Submarine shipyard specializing on these. Transfer LPD project to another shipyard to specialize on such vessels (LST - LPD - LHD- RAS), while making other medium sized shipyards handle FBP , FAC, PB projects and specialize on those.
I don't understand how PT PAL has ended up with KCR and LPD projects at the first place? Did government shifted those because they were definitely going to be "profitable" thus PT PAL will keep profits up?

further notes:
An OPV is commonly under armed, but we shouldn't forget Sigma class boats of Indonesia has been named as "OPV Indonesia" by Damen.
Also, Turkish Milgem is named as "OPV - ASW/PV ".
OPV isn't an existing class like frigate - destroyer, but it covers any vessel conducting patrol in open seas far from land.

What? Just tell us..
It is already in the previous page that Indonesia has hold talks with DCNS, they earlier tried to sell Gowind in package with Rafales, but this time it is the submarine.

I like that Catamaran Tank boat better, seem to have more space on deck to move equipment as well. Can be used as rapid supply boat.
