OPV is a complex naval vessel??
Depends on sensors, weapons loaded. It depends on country's need and conflict environment,an OPV could be entirely weaponless and only with navigation radars, while some countries can desire one fully fledged as a destroyer.
Check out Italian PPA.
And so far i have laid my eyes on, the OPV designs which Indonesia is going to acquire has got heavy weapons and sensors on it, which will definitely be a complex vessel. If i am not mistaken PT DRU has collaborated with Damen, the payload is similar as Sigma class.
IMO: Remove all boat and LPD projects from PT PAL , convert it to Frigate / Corvette-OPV /Submarine shipyard specializing on these. Transfer LPD project to another shipyard to specialize on such vessels (LST - LPD - LHD- RAS), while making other medium sized shipyards handle FBP , FAC, PB projects and specialize on those.
I don't understand how PT PAL has ended up with KCR and LPD projects at the first place? Did government shifted those because they were definitely going to be "profitable" thus PT PAL will keep profits up?
further notes:
An OPV is commonly under armed, but we shouldn't forget Sigma class boats of Indonesia has been named as "OPV Indonesia" by Damen.
Also, Turkish Milgem is named as "OPV - ASW/PV ".
OPV isn't an existing class like frigate - destroyer, but it covers any vessel conducting patrol in open seas far from land.
