British warships will be built in Surabaya, Indonesia, next year. This was conveyed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu) Liz Truss during a press conference with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Lestari Priansasi Marsudi, Thursday (11/11/2021).

The warship development plan is part of cooperation in the defense sector. The two Foreign Ministers discussed security and stability issues in the Indo-Pacific region.

"Two weeks ago, a British carrier strike group visited Jakarta. And next year, a British-designed frigate will be built in Surabaya. This is part of our extensive cooperation in the defense sector. We want to deepen our cooperation in this area," Truss said.

Furthermore, the top diplomats of the two countries discussed digital and technology fields.

"We need to ensure that technology standards are established by the free world and we want to cooperate with Indonesia in areas such as cyber and next-generation technology, whether it be 5G, 6G, or fields such as artificial intelligence and quantum," said the Foreign Minister. Truss.

Not only that, they further discussed cooperation in counterterrorism, cyber security to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We have also discussed the importance of health and in particular, the spread of vaccines. We are pleased to be able to supply one million vaccines to Indonesia, and we want to work together," Truss said.

Prabowo in London; Indonesia Bags License for British Warship

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned company, PT PAL, secured a license to manufacture frigate warships designed by British company, Babcock. The agreement was signed in London during the 'Defense and Security Equipment International (DSEI) 2021' event, witnessed by Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto and British Defense Minister Ben Wallace, Thursday, September 16.

A frigate is a warship built with speed and maneuverability.

In a written statement, PT PAL said the frigates will be built in Indonesia, with special designs and specifications that meet the needs of the Indonesian Navy.

The British and Indonesian navies will have the same ships that have been modified according to their respective needs. The warships are expected to facilitate training and communication.

British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste Owen Jenkins said Indonesia and Britain have excellent defense and security relations. The memorandum of understanding between the two countries covers various aspects as well; from cyber to defense, navy and maritime.

According to Owen, both nations' navies meet every two years. Indonesia and the UK also have a joint training agenda on maritime security.

"Sharing the same new ship is the next step that should be taken. I am really looking forward to seeing our partners in Indonesia building this ship at the Surabaya dock," Owen said.

The name and number hasn't been official yet, because it hasn't been inaugurated. So KRI Klewang 625 is actually nonexistent, the vessel referred to by that name is still a prototype.

the previous variant use NG-18 CIWS and rear facing chinese fire control radar, if this was the "westernized" version, im hoping we can slap Oerlikon Millenium in the back of the ship, since it's much more simpler plug and play CIWS and non deck penetrating compared to NG-18.

The millennium gun would be heavy and bulky for the ship, I don't think it will fit either. It also necessitate extra FC radar in the back.

the Mk110 is actually a very good AA gun system, no need to add other CIWS. If possible it would be better I think to add Merlin 30mm gun in the back,
