For long term solution, I prefer NG...expensive yes, but we get to build it here fully, it would help much if we plan to have a long term national submarine development plan. Esp in the light of the expansion plan. Having master the construction of the hull, we could be creative with our own demand. Look at the Makassar class or the Sigma influence on everything we're building right now.

After the two Scorpene, hopefully there's a repeat order for another 2 to 4 and then proceed to build an improved variant...and final is a 100% locally designed submarine.

hopefully PTPAL will be the Scorpene hub in SEA like what they did in Brazil. Recently they offered made in Brazil Scorpene for Argentine navy.

not FC2G ? :cautious:

Stirling AIP is a Dinosaur this day

But very mature technology

No need to worry about glitch and defect commonly found in newly developed technology

when its ready, will it be replaced by the Li-Ion or the new battery will be used only for the next batch of scorpene?

But isn't it kind of "loud" ?

NG isn't confidence enough with their AIP ?

Govt keep saying bla bla... to export locally made submarine bla bla..., maybe such expensive deal for only 2 scorpene will allow us to even export it later? Assuming that it is really $2 billion for only 2 scorpene.
Just like our LPD deal with SK we can modify it, build it as we wish and export it.

Submarine market is very limited, not all country has requirement for their Armed Forces to have Submarine Forces in their Arsenal. And for such limited market, any buyer, just like us, wanna to get the best option available with the best supporting condition....

It is would be different if MoD and KKIP developed much sound strategy, in which in my opinion is to have Indonesian Navy to operated Indonesian own design Submarine and that's in much greater number, and also at the same time developed the sub components indigenously, just like how Japanese did it. And if some countries interested in our design just take it as bonus.
