Speaking of stop gap solution, have US ever transferred their naval assets to other countries through EDA program? Reckon we could use some :)

In seventy decades, Indonesia got Claude Jones Destroyer Escort class and several LST

In early 2010 got offered of some their Oliver Hazard Perry class

Btw Turkey, Egypt , Pakistan, Taiwan and several other countries is known to accepted EDA in Naval article.

Indonesian Navy need not compete ship per ship basis with China. We can't anyway.

A fleet 1/4th or even 1/6th of China's SS fleet is enough.

And I agree with stop gap solution. Any stop gap solution is still better than most Indonesian navy vessel afloat these days.
With a good strategy we still can put up a good fight, Even Kriegsmarine still able to terrorise the allies on the high seas even though only using their U-boat.
And with today's technology a single submarine (in a berserk mode) able to face of against a carrier battle group. IMHO

Maybe, but it is better to have that capability.

Hi, can anyone tell me about the status of Indonesia's submarine acquisition program?

A while ago I heard that Indonesia was looking to acquire 4 Scorpene-class boats (alongside Rafale aircraft), what is the status of this deal?

This days acquisition usually comes with a surprise.

Look at the FREMM and Arrowhead acquisition, while it's anticipated, no one had any idea it will be purchased right until Janes or Babcock announced it.

Same with Rafale and the submarine acquisition, we might only know what's what when the announcement came.

Personally I'm betting on the Scorpene instead of the 214's, but who knows.

I also think it's unwise to left the Changbogo program considering we're on our way to build the 4th, 5th and 6th hull gradually on our own.

Why the second batch of these boats will be build / assembled in SK?

The 4th-6th hull are planned to be assembled here, each with varying degree of local assembly.

If we decide not to continue with the C'Bogos, we'll have to start the learning curves back to square one for a new type of submarine.

So if we're aiming for 12 sub like the many reported, at least 6 of them should be Chang Bogo while the rest could be European ones.

Cancelling the contract will also jeopardize our defense relationship with SK.

Just my opinion.

Why I always thinking that the second batch will be build in SK, just what and where did I read about that.

FREMM contract is still not effective as Arrowhead is related to Iver contract that has been signed years before

What ever the OEM we will pick for submarine acquisition they must get PT PAL to construct the submarine wholly at least finish in 2026-2028. With Changbogo for new contract we will make it in stages as we know that first submarine ( 1 section built in PT PAL), second submarine (2 section built in PT PAL), and third submarine will be wholly built in PT PAL facility.

Yes, we have been their largest arms consumer yet, like makassar LPD, t50, and these changbogos

are they, changbogo and u209 (mod1400) completely different sub? by any chance we decided to buy tkms u family sub. Will we losing the learning curves that we got from the batch i nagapasa?

Arrowhead, or iver came from MEF 2 as the 3rd and 4th PKR. And hopefully FREMM could get the deal done in MEF 3.
that first submarine ( 1 section built in PT PAL), second submarine (2 section built in PT PAL), and third submarine will be wholly built in PT PAL facility.
Btw Indos, will PAL do the batch ii sequential or in parallel?
