towed sonar must be deployed 1st and can be used on certain speed if you dont want the blade interfering the towed sonar capabilities. So thats why both Ficantieri and ALRI are aiming for the FREMM ASW deal.

A ship that does not possess hull-mounted sonar has low situational awareness and is also highly vulnerable to submarine torpedoes.
This is why most proper warships have both, as towed array sonar cannot be used in all conditions.
