"Jadi saya tegaskan kembali berbagai berita yang disampaikan sudah ditemukan 21 jam itu sebenarnya belum bisa digunakan sebagai dasar. Oleh karena itu saya berharap kepada rekan-rekan media untuk tidak membuat analisa, tidak memberitakan yang mungkin belum dipastikan kebenarannya sehingga memberikan ketenangan kepada masyarakat khususnya informasi ini," ujar Achmad Riad.

Radar searches have detected an object with 'high magnetism' up to 300ft below the surface, which have come from submarine, officials say.

Radar?

One of the country's warships, the Riguel, is set to reach the area on Friday morning. It has a high-tech sonar system, which the navy hopes will help locate the missing submarine.

Riguel?

Either TNI AL is not good at giving explanation or the media can't listen properly (+ try to make longer article by adding their own analysis that is not good and try create as many content as possible, even for kompas they just only know that submarine is a warship).

As i said earlier, media nowadays are come with tons of salt and twisted story.

Official release are statements that only contain basic information,

Media writers, is a person with medicore to none knowledge. This make the information come from official source has different interpretation in media acceptance.

Yasterday, even mention that Naggala try to launch Missile, wich part of training with other Vessel to launch D 802 missile, and here we come if oil spill caused by submarine hull cracking ?

How The heck submarine colud crack ? Is it a crisp ?

The problem is because mainsteam media in Indonesia usually doesnt have dedicated defense desk, so generalist are making news about defense stuff. It will be different if we compare to media like Angkasa made the report about Aerospace stuff. At least one CNN Indonesia reporter has become a specialist on defense, but look like other reporter from other desk can make defense related news as well in CNN Indonesia.

Yup, he is the only guy currently in Indonesian mainstream media that has good knowledge on defense (because CNN Indonesia employ him as defense specialist reporter). He is not just parroting on Navy press conference, but can explain some technical things based on his own knowledge.

Then what's stopping you guys - or anyone else who complains about the unprofessional and inaccurate media in this case for that matter - to become media writers specializing in defense and military news reporting instead?

Sorry, I took a bit of offense since it just seems to me that people are easy to complain while unwilling to at least try to make better changes by themselves. Much like spectators in football matches who will curse their favorite team's striker if he failed to score. If they can do better than the player they cursed, then why don't they be the ones in the field instead?

Don't get me wrong. I'm well aware that there are a lot of misreporting and even misleading news stories filled with sensationalism and click baits to generate traffic - not to mention opinions from "experts" or "observers" that those medias are so fond of to quote - as well as plethora of other problems in journalism in general. But since there are only a few Indonesian journalists who have specific interests and adequate knowledge in defense and military stuffs, we (those few journalists) surely will welcome others who are willing to get their feet wet and join our ranks.

In this age of digital media, reporters are pushed to provide "breaking story" , up to minute story.....which a lot of times at the expense of correct facts. The mindset it breaking news....and to update later with new facts or correction. Speed is the name of the game. This in combination that reporters from mainstream media are usually not specialists.

Hence readers need to treat the news with a grain of salt.....:(

With all the assets at sea doing the search for Nanggala, curious how TNI AL is coordinating all of this...? Which ships and planes doing what and which area. Is there anyone who can share the info..? Is it public info...?

It's probably like this:

The whole search area is divided into several sectors - each with several ships assigned to it which will run predetermined search patterns using their sonar and other onboard equipments and / or helicopter for underwater detection if available. For airplanes, I'm guessing that how they run their course will depend on what type and how long they can remain airborne.

Not exactly top secret, but I would appreciate to be corrected if I'm wrong.

Yup particularly CNBC/Republika reporting on defense news like KFX/IFX. Even when analyst hint the main problem of TOT is the unwillingness of Indonesian part to approach US, but still they spin it to jeopardize the program. This TOT is critical technology, not just "ecek ecek" that usually happen when we buy some amount of planes.

I also get another report that can make 'Awam" think that 100 trilliun Rupiah is the cost that Indonesia should pay, despite the truth that we just need to pay around 20 trillion Rupiah. The writing is not made quite clearly that people who dont know about the program can missinterpret it.

This is just one example, the news reporter always talk negative about the program without good knowledge despite the source doesnt say like that.

Did you even read the article?

It's not an opinion piece where the journalist write his or her own personal view. Look at whose opinion the reporter has quoted instead.

Many of us already familiar with the name and her strange ideas and opinions regarding defense in this country as an "observer". While we can complain why did said media use her views instead of someone else's with more credibility, but that won't matter much - especially if the "hands behind the media" or investors have their own vested interests in the issue.

The title of the article is loaded, of course, and it's the 'disease' of journalism in the internet age.
