The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), India's premier defence research agency, is carrying out trials of the indigenously developed Kaveri jet engine in Russia and is planning to use it for powering the Made in India long-range Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV).

The Kaveri engine is undergoing detailed trials in Russia and there are around 25 hours of testing left to be done on it. The slots have to be given by the authorities, defence officials informed India Today TV.

The engine is planned to be used for powering the indigenous UCAV project, they said. Interest in the Kaveri engine has been revived as there is an ongoing trend in the Evian media, asking the government to #FundKaveri engine project.

I note on another forum HAL Chief Sunil is due to retire April 2026. He will be determined to get this done before he goes, I guess.

Looks like the Ministry of Defence has signaled its intent to move ahead with France's SAFRAN as a partner in the $7 billion program to develop a next-gen turbofan engine meant to go on AMCA Mk-2:

I was wondering, given what's going on with Trump and stuff, will ToT for GE F414 be cancelled?

Nah, these two are not related, plus the deal for the ToT has alr been signed, the only things being discussed right now is the commercial establishment of the facility to manufacture these things.

The tariffs are not on the main exports of India(i.e pharma and electronics) so it shouldn't matter enough for a major defence deal like this.

As I suspected. Not ToT for American engine in current circumstances.
Bro No nation on earth would provide ToT of its engine technology to other nation no matter what. Americans are parasites; they would literally squeeze India dry before even giving out anything in return

From the first day I heard about possible tech transfer between India and US, I called it Bul**hit news.

The cooperation between India and France actually seems plausible. India is suffering numerous setbacks in its engine development program and France needs to develop a new engine anyway for its new fighter jet; thus, India will share some development costs while getting some tech in return which is a win-win for both sides

Nope that proceeds as is with the ToT involved in that deal, given the Tejas Mk2 and first tranche AMCA:

People don't understand what ToT is in the end. It is largely IP rights over capital machinery moved to facilities.

It is false to say there will be "no ToT" regd the GE-414 production within India to take place over next 10 years while the safran joint project develops and matures for the longer term.
