Afterburner issue remaining
The above post was 2021. Now it is 2026 and I have not heard that the Kaveri afterburner now functions. India still has no FTB so it cannot be demonstrated that it works. I read (no source) that dry Kaveri has been waiting in Russia for years for FTB testing. Is that true?

Are GOI, GTRE quite incapable of getting things done? I sympathise with GTRE to the extent that it is government-owned and does not have the tools needed to develop fast jet engines. Many decades have been spent on Kaveri yet GOI has not had the sense to provide the tools to enable GTRE to do the job GOI selected it to do. On that basis why does anyone expect that an afterburning version of Kaveri will ever enter production?

Only a couple of weeks to actual go ahead with an engine for AMCA?

This is just a bureaucratic approval at this point combined with some media clickbait opportunism etc.

Details of how the AMCA powerplant shapes up is longer term thing.

HTFE-25 turbofan progress:

  • Total 3 engines built, 2 core-only examples & 1 full engine.
  • Core engine tested for up to 99.5% of designed speeds (airspeed? Analogous to thrust?)

HTSE-1200 turboshaft progress:

  • 2 engines built (1 jet-mode & 1 power-mode example).
  • Tested at up to 650 kW (54.2% of designed output of 1200 kW/1600 shp).
