Greece recognizes Turkish Maritime Jurisdiction, gets permission!

On July 21, Greece issued navigational notices regarding the activities of the Italian-flagged R/V IEVOLI RELLUME cable-laying vessel, some of which enter the Turkish Maritime Jurisdiction Area.

Turkey immediately issued objection-based navigational notices regarding the issue and announced that permission must be obtained from the authorities of the Republic of Turkey in order to conduct work in areas within the Turkish Maritime Jurisdiction Area.

On July 22, the vessel in question was warned by Turkish authorities not to enter the Turkish Maritime Jurisdiction Area and was blocked by Turkish warships.

As a result of the coordination that was carried out later, a request for permission was made and the Ministry of National Defense also allowed work to be carried out at the specified coordinates.

The cable vessel, which completed its activities under the escort of Turkish Naval Forces ships, left the Turkish continental shelf.

The Ministry of National Defense made the following statement regarding the issue: "We would like to thank the Greek and Italian authorities for respecting and cooperating with our maritime jurisdiction areas."

I highly doubt Greeks will see it this way. They would probably tell themselves that Turkish ships went away fearing the Belharra and F-35s and the Italian ship did what it set out to do. Anyone who thinks they would just step back their claims and come remotely close to being reasonable does not know Greeks.

Should of outright told them no. All that'll happen is it'll be spun towards Greece's and the EUs favour and they'll bring this back as if they never asked for permission in the first place.

If they did ask for permission, they will deny it. In fact, they will claim that the work being done confirms the agreement they signed with Egypt. Of course, Turkish navy can prevent Turkish rights from being violated but the final solution to this problem will not come that easily. There are only two ways to get them return to the real world as proven by history: either military humiliation or their western patrons will force a solution on them.

Non of that matters as we can see how ethics rules and whatnot is being violated on global level. e.g. Chinas actions in SEA.

Only the strong can dictate what is going to happen. If I had been turkish authorities I'd have prepared a Research Vessel to conduct seabed research etc. and made sure that vessel sailed and conducted research in our Mavi Vatan along the sea borders to Greece, Libya, Egypt and GC.

When the Italian and Greek asked for permission I'd have comissioned the vessel to research the area they want to lay the cable to "protect" sealife/coral etc. at the area of laying the cables.

Possibly delaying the laying of the cables for a couple of days.

That would be what I'd have done. and that would prove that It's my EEZ and none others. Who's to say our government gave the permission while they were laying the cables anyway to fool the people.

I don't trust the government and the government controlled media.

So many is sharing the news on twitter. But if that is true, then our fishermen should have no problems fishing in OUR EEZ.

I’d love it if patriotic fishermen vessels big enough to fish there could be sponsored to sail out there and fish.

We should also have Reasearch Vessels sailing out there to consuct searches.

The issue isn’t a lack of capacity; it’s the allocation of existing capacity towards policies chosen by the policymakers. Primary duty given to the Turkish Coast Guard is protecting the Greek coasts.
