Of course the idiots record it and post it to social media for another human rights penalty for torture, as well as internal disciplinary action.

Why the fck would they put soldiers in such areas in Northern Iraq where they are sitting ducks.

This is incompetence at its best.

We can put all the combined efforts of the armes forces but still its ground soldiers that have to yank the pkk out of these Mountains and Hills.

Stupid costly mistakes. I know soldiers will get killed this is war and we all know it. But there is also ways to minimise casualties.

Always treat soldiers to fight another day. Soldiers are not robots or unlimited manpower to be used by retarded politicians.

Moroccan soldiers are not allowed to carry their phones when they are on active duty. They are not even allowed to take photos of themselves, their camouflage, or their equipment. If an individual soldier commits an attempt then a harsh penalty is given close to the title "treason".

This reminds me the fiasco that happened in Syria when our tanks were sitting ducks in the open, waiting to be hit by ATGM’s. And unfortunately that’s what happened.

Third world military, no, but more like military or better put it as land forces that likes to underestimate the enemy, the safety guidelines and the weather conditions. A few years back a soldier froze to death and if not for the public reaction we would've seen situations like that even today.

The Turkish soldiers in the area of operations are always working at the top of their limits. The commanders are always pushing them to their limits forgetting that they are human and not terminators. Yes, the Turkish soldier is highly trained, very experienced, working hard in the worst of conditions without complaints, the equipment is not the best, but it is not bad too, but they are still human beings with their humanly limitations.

Underestimating the enemy is also a factor. Three days ago on the 21st, in 2016, Syria, we saw a similar story during the Operation Euphrates Shield and especially the Akil/Hospital hill fighting where 16 of our soldiers from the Special Forces Command and the 1st Commando Brigade (Kayseri) fell martyr due to a coordinated DEASH attack involving VBIEDS (armored car bombs).

The soldiers of the sprcial forces were forced to infiltrate and fight the whole night at that position with reports of 300+ terrorists neutralized. DEASH mobilized all its units from around Syria and started moving towards Al-Bab. Supporting elements moving to the position were hit. Tanks, APCs, IFVs, MRAPs were hit. Despite all the difficulties our soldiers endured till the morning where more reinforcements were sent. Reinforcements were also hit. At last most of them managed to sneak to the position. At that stage we gave 4 martyrs and 16 wounded already. Our soldiers numbers are small, the terrorists are well positioned, throwing everything they got on them. ATGMs, rockets, mortars, heavy weapons, everything. The commander on field warned the high command that DEASH is too strong there, but our high command told them to continue. They wanted the position to be reinforced, but were refused. No Air Force support was also present. At last the clashes stopped. Our soldiers saw a drone, called the command and told them that this is a common thing among DEASH and they are preparing something big, they want measures to be taken against VBIEDs, the command told them "nothing will happen, the terrorist are not so smart" and guess what happened. A VBIED hit the position, two big explosions happened after that. They fought a couple of hours more and managed to keep the position. Only 6 operational soldiers were left from the special forces unit. 12 martyrs and 20 wounded was the result of these hours. Our soldiers were besieged. FSA also abandoned their positions and left our soldiers alone. Only after these heavy hours the commanders decided that an F-16 must hit the terrorists so a corridor can be established in order for the wounded and martyrs to be evacuated. May Allah accept their martyrdom!

There are many stories like these like a unit forced to wait a helicopter evacuating a cat from a terrorist position where our soldiers are treated worse than animals etc.

While TSK took a lot of lessons from the Operation Euphrates Shield and the following operations, but there is something that is not changing. Overestimating our own force, treating soldiers worse than animals and underestimating the terrorist force.

I think that as long as the certain system exists, that Turkey will be always on the defensive. Turkey will always have to wait and then react.
Simply, any system that guarantees the same political rights to a common criminal as it does to a PhD , ultimately and inheritivly has no the mechanism to defend itself. In the place where unelected media can make or break people , the system is open to the free interpretation.
Playing by those rules and especially against the factors who do not respect any rules and yet blackmail you by the same rules will take you just to the eventual decline.
Iran, Russia, to some extent China don't play like that. They know very well that their opposition do not respect or do what t6, themselves preach.
Turkey needs to recreate something like Taskilat or Turkish kind of Warner or something similar. Another thing is , in many areas of the world, there are the Turkish diaspora. In many countries, Turks have ar least few dedicated and sincere friends. The things can be done differently, let them cry " Human Rights etc" . But let's them look over their shoulders like Turks do. The fear and the force are 2 great remedies.
Even the minister of the finance of Turkey said , something similar a few days ago. That or this will go on forever.
Also problematic thing is , that the people of " reason, diplomacy, culture, transparency etc" have one child or sometimes two. While the wild tribes multiple like the rats , that they are. Afterall those people have a lot more in common with the people who talk about the rules but always break them, then they have with, according to them " typical this and that etc" their neighbours in little bit cheaper neighbourhoods.

They gave them tents, what more do you want?

The modular bases and shelters, the smart mortars, the night vision goggles, the perimeter radars and so on, these are all being developed or introduced for demonstration in exercises so that it would appear in media and be used as propaganda material. They may be donated here and there, but they will never make it to forward bases in Iraq or Syria, because sons of Turkiye are not as important to them as others.

Never-ending story, fancy items are not seen on the frontlines but on the exercises, not given to who needs it most but to which commander has more influence on the higher ranks. They count on a soldier's devotion to his country more than on a plan or supplies. They are the ones who distribute aid where it will get the most media coverage, not where it is most needed. They live for a show, nothing more, and these martrys are a headline for a day and then forgotten. They don't even care as much about them as they do about Hamas terrorists.

It is because their sons never serve for this country, they get some doctors report to avoid it, they get testicle cancer then bear child, they pay dollars and disappear in the short term service, most of 'their' sons are the same, they talk but when it comes to action, its always the sons of the Anatolian people who go to the fronts, with full will and dedication.

We lost 6 martyrs as a result of the attack on the Turkish Armed Forces base located on Zap/Matin Mountain in the Claw Lock operation region. We will try to evaluate both Mount Matin and the attack under this post.

1703441690064.png

Mount Matin is at an altitude of 1750. It is 17 km away from the Turkish border. It is located just above a civilian area. Soldiers were deployed to the area last year and left the area due to winter conditions. This summer they were deployed again and this time, there was no withdrawal when winter came.

PKK has a kilometers-long tunnel at the top of Matin Mountain. The organization also has a tunnel just under Mount Matin. Another very serious problem is a tunnel connected to the village of Sergele. There are many PKK supporters in the village and PKK is using the village as a logistic center from which they are reinforcing their tunnel network.

1703442813040.png

Trough this tunnel they are ensuring the flow of essential products for survival, weapons, ammunition, man power to the Matin tunnel network and other points in the Claw-Lock area of operations. By looking at satellite pictures we can see that the tunnel network is being enlarged and works are continuing.

Turkish Armed Forces are deployed at many points along the Matin Mountain line. There are also 2 tunnel entrances in this deployment. In a way, it is like a front-line war, there are meters between the members of the organization and the Turkish Armed Forces personnel. And this situation has been going on for months.

Additionally, there are Peshmerga forces loyal to Barzani on the hill. This Peshmerga base and a Turkish Armed Forces base are almost adjacent to each other. Even though they do not provide very solid support (nor do they have the capabilities), they are against the PKK and stand by Turkiye. They are positioned 1.5 km from the tunnel and even fought the PKK last year. They are also giving logistic support to the Turkish base at Matin.

Let's come to the PKK tunnel. Now you saw 2 entries in the video. You may be asking the question of how terrorists in a place with clear entrances and exits cannot be neutralized despite today's technology and facilities. Now I will try to answer these questions.

In the photo, the tunnel has 2 entrances where rubble is emptied. If we emerge from these rubbles, the bottom of the area, highlighted in red is the estimated tunnel line. So they have a base under that mountain. This tunnel base is also kilometers long.

1703441903204.png

The entrances and some parts of these tunnels are not tall enough for a person to walk standing. It has a labyrinth structure inside. And this tunnel has multiple floors.

So you somehow entered the tunnel, moved forward, and after a certain point, you went downstairs. The same reinforced positions are on this floor this time. This time, on this floor there is the area where they live, guard posts, etc. You will pass here too, but this time there is another floor below.

In other words, you will move forward in this narrow and low area, one after the other, bypassing IEDs and traps. You will overcome the ambushes set by the PKK in the tunnel, you will clear the floors one by one, etc. There is no possibility of this happening. No one in the world can clean that tunnel by entering like this.

So, you may ask, how have nearly 20 tunnels in Iraq been cleared so far? Explosives were lined up at the tunnel entrances, the explosive was detonated, and the people inside were neutralized by the pressure created by the detonated explosive, or they could no longer stand it and ran away.

Now we have reached the PKK's biggest tunnels and the PKK has learned lessons after its losses. Now they have made the tunnels bigger. They created positions and pressure rooms against the Turkish Armed Forces explosives.

So, as you can see, a group of terrorists are inside the tunnel that cannot be destroyed. Turkish Armed Forces are also stationed around the tunnel. There is a situation that has never been seen before in the world.

Now let's come to the attack that martyred our 6 soldiers yesterday.

This year, the organization did not have a successful infiltration in Mount Matin until the weather turned bad. When the Turkish Armed Forces' visibility opportunities were restricted, terrorists began to take action.

As can be seen in the video, the weather is foggy and rainy. Also, a lot of snow had fallen on the hill. Normally the organization does not come in such bad weather. But now they are coming, they have started to take big risks themselves. Because they have no other choice.

In this weather and at that altitude, it is difficult to see where the terrorist will come from or even see the situation of another position from your position. If terrorists plan to come under these conditions, it is not possible to prevent terrorists from coming if the area and the base are not fully secured.

Terrorists climbed the summit from the civilian area where the villages are located. We can assume that the terrorists inside the tunnel also came out of the tunnel and supported the attack. They are clearly the advantaged side.

1703442234413.png

The bad conditions affecting the soldiers in the region also apply to them. This attack is no different from a suicide attack. As a result, they left at least 12 terrorists on that hill and left. There may be more neutralized, it will be clear after checking when the weather and conditions improve.

Another issue is that the organization does not share its losses in Mount Matin. The terrorist who participated in the previous attack said that many terrorists died in Matin. But until that statement, the PKK had not announced any casualties from Matin.

The situation continues like this right now. We'll see how far this will go. The only thing I can say is that the Turkish Armed Forces must change their methods against these tunnels. It would be ridiculous for us to comment on other issues without being there.

But this has to be said. Both sides are fighting with great will. PKK is a really stupid organization, an organization that cannot improve itself. But they have a strong will. This will should definitely not be underestimated.

Finally, you can be sure that most of the ideas mentioned in your comments such as "why not try this, should they try that" have been tried and did not work. Your other ideas (chemical weapons) do not suit us. Stay well.

We still rely on the Eastern/Asian mentality of the will to fight.

Ottomans told their soldiers in Yemen to fight with whatever they have despite marching into isolated pockets that left them surrounded to Yemeni tribesman.

Also another great example is Ww2 as the Japanese soldiers begged for supplies in the various pacific islands. The higher ups told them to fight with whatever they can when they dropped them into isolated islands with no way out.

We still rely on the will to fight while ignoring various factors of fighting a war.

This needs to change.

If villages could be temporarily relocated fully by the Kurdish administration it would be possible to drop or bring a huge bomb to eviscerate everything despite pressure rooms and size. Shockwaves will reach deep inside if bomb head is thick pointy metal which buries itself deep in the ground when dropped from high altitudes to gain speed, before detonating as a bunker buster. Like trump did in Afghanistan with MOAB.

But villages could be damaged too if too strong, or it wont work if too weak or if it doesn't penetrated deep enough first. We should have developed these types of deep penetrating larger than 1 tonne bombs decades ago. Cargo planes with palletized munition systems are being used to drop these huge bombs. MOAB has a unit price of $170,000 (some source say 16 million USD) if there are dozens of them inside 170K would be worth the price tag not so sure about 16 million.

Correction: deep penetrating earlier " seismic bombs " were apparently were not as effective as MOAB. MOAB is open air thin casing almost all explosive Tritonal, a mixture of four parts TNT to one part aluminum powder. The aluminum increases the destructive power the TNT would have on its own by almost 20 percent. MOAB just burns out all the oxygen. I am surprised its effect reached deep underground even when explosion was open air.
