To be fair i don't think erdogan actually cares about Assad he's publicising it to make the americans, ypg think that Turkey could make a deal with Assad and if that happens their position in syria becomes untenable. Causing doubts among the USA and fears for the YPG.

Assad being a lackey of Russia/Iran and an enemy of Turkey sees this and publicly declares he won't meet to assure the ypg/america that no deals are being made.

However its come out many times before that Turkish intelligence has kept open communication with Syrian/Assadist intelligence for years now.

There is no reason for erdogan to publicise wanting to meet with Assad unless he's trying to create pressure on america and the ypg. If he wanted a meeting it would be kept behind closed doors until it happened, you wouldn't have erdogan announcing to mainstream media entites.

Its still a failed tactic, buts as much as i don't like erdogan its obvious what he's doing. And if its obvious to me its obvious to the americans and russians.

However had he not destroyed relations completely the americans and ypg would live in constant fear that an agreement between Turkey/Assad could undermine their entire enterprise, this would have made the ypg and americans less likely to go all in on opposing Turkey.

It always fascinates me someone can be so good at winning the political/elections game, but so terrible at being a statesman.

Also they are protecting the ypg by working together.

At least 500 strong Iranian militia was positioned on the front lines in the past days and only yesterday SAA made a reinforcement of the positions of Al Taha Regiment, Al Hawashim Regiment, Al Shahin Regiment, Al Haydar Regiment all tied to the 25th Division. They were all positioned in areas south of Manbij.

An operation is not done like this. If operation somehow starts there will be no one to blame for the martyrdom of our soldiers and SNA fighters than ourselves.

The enemy is enemy and he will shoot at our soldiers, trying to kill as many of them, but all this thing feels like your father shoots you in the back.
