I see you're focused exclusively on military security. This is misleading. If all problems can be solved militarily, then why do even the most powerful countries keep thousands of diplomats around the world? Look, Russia has extremely serious security problems. They didn't exist before. These problems only emerged after the start of the shameful war in Ukraine. For those who are confused on what happened in Syria yesterday; particularly in the Sheikh Maqsoud and al-Ashrafieh neighborhoods of Aleppo.

🔺️It all began when the Syrian Armed forces found a meticulously hidden tunnel connecting such neighbourhoods with the SDF-held areas in Deir-Hafir and Raqqa. Immediately, the Syrian Armed forces blew the said tunnel and laid seige to such neighbourhoods and blocked all the roads leading in and out of it

🔺️this lead to civilians in such neighbourhoods becoming increasingly angry and discontent as this means blockage of services etc. As a response, and in order for the PKK ro maintain public order, the PKK began hitting all the Govt-controlled districts near the blocked roads which led to massive civilian and military casualities

🔺️The Syrian Govt started a half-assed response amd started hitting some PKK targets. The SDF then offered that their fighters would leave the neighbourhoods in return for all the roads blocking the SDF/PKK-held neighbourhoods to be reblocked.

🔺️Thus, a ceasefire agreement as made

Conclusion: a third-rate fiasco and a massive tactical win for the SDF.
✔For those who dont know, the SDF already took all their soldiers from the Aleppo neighbourhoods in a similar agreement back in March!
✔The SDF then re-transferred such soldiers back in to PKK-held neighbourhoods in Aleppo through tunnels like the one that the govt destroyed yesterday.
✔When the govt found and blew the tunnel, they used it as an excuse to seige such neighbourhoods in preparation to enter and kick the PKK out in the near future (if an operation were to be conducted)
✔The SDF, fearing such a scenario, attempted an armed attack against areas controlled by the govt to force them to agree to a ceasefire that would break the seige and prevent any public discontent towards the PKK leadership in SDF-controlled areas in Aleppo in return for the retreat of PKK soldiers of Aleppo

What do you think will happen next? Simple, the SDF will re-transfer all the retreating PKK fighters back into the SDF-controlled neighbourhoods through another tunnel that isnt exposed by the Syrian govt; all the while ensuring that they retain a firm ruling grip over SDF-held areas in Aleppo

Such an incident reminded me of Mazloum Abdi's words when he said that dealing with the Syrian army militarily or politically is easy but the problem lies in Turkey and guess what...... the guy is actually right! The Sheikh Maqsoud district isn't just any district; think of it like the Çinçin neighborhood in Ankara 20 years ago. The buildings are so close together, the narrow streets akin to a gypsy neighborhood. Security forces will face both civil unrest and ambushes once they enter. Airstrikes will result in civilian casualties, but those civilians support the terrorists. If you enter, you'll suffer heavy military losses. This is an area that needs to be resolved gradually and gradually.

In other words, if Turkey attacked the PKK in the future, then it wont be labelled as an attack against the YPG but an attack against a sovereign state called Syria that is an ally of the US. I dont see it as fear but the SDF doing diplomacy by showing to the US that they are freedom and diplomacy lovers while the Turks are the radical brutes which will eventually spiral into them declaring independence or gaining some form of autonomy from the HTS-led govt

Moreover, them stating that: "We wont retreat but if Syria wants peace, then these are our terms and If Turkey wants to see Syria in peace then it should follow on our demands and our communication channels are open" is by no means a sign of fear but a sign of arrogance due to them acknowledging that they have stronger cards than Turkey in the US

Start all over again? Apologize to Israel for the notorious "One Minute"; return the ill-fated S-400s to Russia; bow to Washington again; not contradict the EU in any way, etc.? And then what? After Ankara abandons its independent policy, the EU will logically demand compromises in its internal policies as well.
And all this for what?
(Yes, it's sad to watch Erdogan's party transform a once secular country into yet another Islamic republic. We see what the Iranian ayatullahs have turned their country into.)

This notion that Erdoğan is the one who started pursuing an independent policy is pure nonsense that just keeps popping up again and again.

Post WW2, US influence started pouring in. Plane factories were closed and to counter Russian influence the US backed Islamists, later resulting in Turkish-Islamic synthesis. The US and Saudi Arabia were responsible for this, their same poison has scortched the middle east and beyond.

Yet even as all types of games were being played, Türkiye launched the Cyprus operation in 1974, a bold move for a country that isn't independent as you suggest... then after embargoes, the defence industry was kick started. By the 90s, Türkiye was producing APCs, MLRS, navy vessels and ballistic missiles.

Throughout the 80s and 90s, Türkiye launched highly effective cross border operations against PKK. These operations were so successful that PKK declared unilateral ceasefires multiple times.

One time in the late 90s, Türkiye threatened Syria with war over housing PKK members. Hafez-Al Assad backed out immediately, this was how seriously TSK was taken back then.


Whilst all of this was happening, Islamists and Kurdish separatists were holding hands just like they are today. It's undeniable that foreign intelligence agencies have supported them for decades to weaken the Turkish state.


Türkiye has also been independent, it's an insult to say Erdoğan made it independent. Especially when you read all the US documents which discuss the need to replace the secular nationalist military with a mild Islamic government. Which is what Erdoğan did with the help of his FETÖ cronies.
