I think the Navy should invest in this missile. We should put Tayfun block 3 on board Navy ships ASAP. Roketsan should do studies to see whether it is possible to integrate Tayfun Block 3 to Midlas VLS, or whether it is possible to replace some of the harpoon launchers on the deck. Tayfun 3 should also be a part of the Barbaros Coastal Defense System.

Quick question, how hard is it to launch this thing from a submarine?

I envisioned something like some unmanned mini-subs that carry 4-6 of those but I honestly have no idea if it would be worth the trouble. Maybe on a USV it would make more sense. Just slap a launcher on top, the range is plenty enough.

I was thinking more like a canister launch that they have done with Atmaca. Mildens and Nukdens can probably have them built in.

Do our frigates enough free space for super sized SRBM and its launcher?

Does Türkiye really need such huge arsenal for ocean?



Also submarine launched ballistic missiles have totally different shape and structure.

On the other hand, Launch from submarines would be safer than warships. SRBM would just burn the deck. If Turkish navy procures SRBM, it doesn't mean, the navy will put on ships.

Please remember, Turkish Air Forces also uses ground air defense systems. Turkish Navy monitors naval threats, so its their duty to eliminate naval threats from ground.

Quick question, how hard is it to launch this thing from a submarine?

If your submarines don’t have VLS with correct dimensions that can accommodate the missile, forget it.
If however, your submarines have the correct dimension VLSs, then you need to develop technologies like nuclear ballistic missile submarines use to launch ICBMs. That is not easy either. When those missiles are launched from under water, they don’t use capsules. But the gas propulsion system is such that it does not allow the missile and the VLS containers to get wet. When such large missiles are being launched from under water, due to weight shifting problems subs would encounter sub’s balance may be compromised. Thus this will have to be addressed to keep the sub stable. This is achieved by filling the tube instantly to not allow any instability issues.

Conventional Submarine Torpedo tubes are predominantly 533mm in diameter and 6.4m to 7.6m long. Missile plus capsule diameter and length have to be smaller to fit. Ballistic missiles are too big to fit in these tubes. But cruise missiles can be built to be launched from these tubes.

Typhoon Block 1 is 610mm in diameter and 6.5m in length. Add the capsule too; it is far too big to fit.

Block 3 is ~8m long
Block 4 is 10m long (~938mm in diameter)
They definitely won’t fit.

Excellent to see that it'll be in the inventory this year. I do hope that they're integrated into future vessels, perhaps a derivative of the TF-2000.

Whilst it's great to see such a destructive weapon enter the inventory, I'd also like the navy to have something else. We need ship-based SEAD/DEAD launcher that saturates enemy ships with cheap drones/missiles.

Perhaps our larger USVs can fill this role
