Navantia Receives Contract to Build Patrol Vessel for Royal Moroccan Navy
Navantia has won a contract to design and build a patrol vessel for the Royal Moroccan Navy, the company said in a statement, Jan 8.
The contract was officially announced by the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, during a visit to the San Fernando shipyard in which she was accompanied by the president of Navantia, Belén Gualda.
Morocco communicated in April the specifications of the contract for the construction of the patrol vessel, in which shipyards from several countries were interested. Navantia presented its offer in August and a team from the company traveled to Morocco to negotiate the technical and commercial aspects.
Since last September, the contacts between Navantia and the Moroccan National Defense Administration have been permanent to adapt all the technical specifications of the vessel to the requirements of its Navy and comply with the roadmap agreed in the negotiation.
The contract announced today by the Minister of Finance includes the design of the vessel. Once the engineering works have been completed, construction will begin. Navantia already supplied patrol vessels and a corvette to the Royal Moroccan Navy in the 1980s.
