Russia is going to invade? Who? Where?

They could call it Operation Sea Lion.

...and I thought that paratroopers travelled in aircraft?

The reconnaissance ship "Ivan Khurs" of the Black Sea Fleet arrived at the permanent base in Sevastopol. Earlier on May 24, it was reported that the ship was attacked by sea drones. As you can see from the video, the ship is intact and has no roll and visible damage. The medium reconnaissance ship "Ivan Khurs" of project 18280 is the most modern reconnaissance ship in Russia, the first ship of this project was commissioned into the fleet in 2015. The main purpose of the ship is to provide communications, conduct radio reconnaissance and electronic warfare, and also monitor the components of the American missile defense system. The ship's equipment captures radio signals in a wide frequency range and determines the location of their source. The ship is capable of receiving and quickly processing a huge amount of information via several channels at once and coordinating the actions of the fleet. The armament of the ship, four naval pedestal installations with 14.5-mm machine guns and several MANPADS. The total displacement of the ship is 4,000 tons, cruising range is 8,000 miles, with a maximum speed of 20 knots. The autonomy of the ship is 45 days, the crew is 120 people.

The Northern Fleet conducted a comprehensive exercise "Kumzha-2023", during which the sailors demonstrated their combat capabilities and tactics. About fifteen surface vessels, submarines and support ships, as well as aircraft and helicopters of the Air Force and Air Defense Army were involved in the maneuvers. The Russian destroyer "Admiral Ushakov" of project 956-A was spotted at the exercises. The first destroyer of the third generation of project 956 was commissioned in 1980, now Russia has 2 ships of this project and 2 are in reserve. The fate of the ships of this project was not easy, steam boilers on ships of this type required the close attention of the crew, they were demanding on the water supplied and failed if the quality of their service was violated. Unfortunately, due to problems in the fleet in the nineties, some ships of this project actually went only 6 years, with a given service life of more than 20 years. It is worth noting that four Project 956 ships are still part of the Chinese fleet, one of them was built in 1994. The armament of the first ships of this project, 130-mm AK-130 naval artillery mounts, 30-mm AK-630 anti-aircraft artillery systems. Eight P-270 Moskit anti-ship missiles. The Uragan air defense system and two RBU-1000 six-barrel rocket launchers, the ship has two double 533-mm torpedo tubes and a Ka-27 helicopter. The ship at one time was not bad enough, had its weak points, but its time is running out. The total displacement of the ship is 7,904 tons, the cruising range is up to 4,500 miles, and the speed is 33 knots. The autonomy of the vessel is 30 days, the crew is 296 people.

Against the backdrop of recent events related to Russian ships and Ukrainian naval drones, an idea has emerged to protect ships from naval drones. We hope that the Ministry of Defense will notice the project and begin to implement it. So far everything has been fine with the drones, but they are being improved and in the future they will dive before an attack and will be difficult to intercept. Ship protection is quite effective, simple from a technical point of view and cheap to implement. The principle of protection can be understood from this simple animation. On the hull of the ship, along its entire length, screens are placed on special levers; when a drone appears, the screens, under their own weight, are lowered into the water in a few seconds and protect the perimeter of the ship. The lifting of the screens is carried out by special motors located on the deck. The advantages of the project are low cost and ease of implementation on any ship, the ship is also protected from torpedoes, protection can also be turned on in areas where mines float. When docked at a pier in foreign ports, the ship will be similarly protected. The weight of the ship increases slightly, the screens can be made of gratings. Disadvantages of the project: the speed of the ship will decrease and fuel consumption will increase, the aesthetic appearance of the ship will deteriorate. The experience of the Second World War showed that even conventional nets, in some cases, effectively protected ships from torpedoes. There was a case when the commander of a German submarine, having fired five torpedoes, was unable to sink the ship, since it was protected by torpedo nets.

The Kingisepp Machine-Building Plant is discussing with the Ministry of Defense the possibility of supplying unmanned GRK-700 Vizir boats to the Russian fleet. The Vizir 700 was based on the RK-700M boat of Project 03080. The Vizir 700 boat was created from composite materials using stealth technology. The boat can carry out operational hydrographic and search work, patrol the water area and other functions. The boat can be used as a naval drone, a drone liquidator, for delivering troops and cargo, and the boat is capable of returning to base on its own. The boat is equipped with a side-scan sonar and a single-beam echo sounder. As a power plant, the drone uses a 100 hp internal combustion engine and two electric motors with a total power of 8 kW. A water jet is used as propulsion. The basic version of the boat reaches speeds of up to 80 km/h. In hybrid operating mode, the boat is capable of moving for 60 hours at a range of up to 500 kilometers. The curb weight of the boat is 2400 kg, load capacity is 400 kg

Russia continues to strengthen its fleet with new ships; the Black Sea Fleet has included a new small missile ship “Cyclone” of Project 22800 “Karakurt”. The small rocket ship "Cyclone" of the new project 22800, although considered small, carries quite serious weapons. Small corvettes of Project 22800, the newest ships in the Russian fleet, the first of them entered service in 2018. There are currently four ships of this project in the fleet; a total of 16 ships are planned to be built. Ships of the 22800 series are designed to destroy enemy targets in the coastal zone and destroy warships in the near sea zone. The ship's hull is made of armored aluminum alloy, the ship is created using stealth technology and has a modular design, which makes it easy to modernize. The main weapon of the ship is the 3S14 universal ship-mounted missile system, designed for eight Kalibr-NK sea-launched cruise missiles; they can also be equipped with a similar number of Onyx anti-ship missiles. The ships are equipped with AK-176 MA-01 artillery mounts with a firing range of up to 15 kilometers and AK-630 artillery mounts on the first ships of the project. They are also equipped with two pedestal machine gun mounts of 14.5 mm caliber, Pantsir-ME air defense systems from the third ship of the series and Verba MANPADS. The ship has an Oralan-10 UAV on board. The ship's displacement is up to 900 tons, maximum speed is up to 65 km/h. The range is up to 2,800 miles. The crew size is 39 people. The approximate cost of a Project 22800 ship is 2 billion rubles, or $22 million.

The Russian NPO Elektromashina presented a new shipborne remote-controlled combat module "Narwhal", designed to destroy surface and coastal objects, air and sea drones. The module is designed for installation on light boats with a displacement of up to 20 tons. The module is equipped with a 12.7 mm Kord machine gun and can hit targets, presumably at a range of up to 6,000 meters. To compensate for pitching during rough seas and shooting while moving, the Narwhal is equipped with a three-plane gyro-stabilized system, as well as an automatic target tracking system. The Narwhal complex consists of a day camera, a thermal imager and a laser rangefinder. Additionally, provision is made for the installation of a weather station, an all-round visibility complex, a radar with a detection range of up to 600 meters and means of defense against high-precision weapons.

A new permanent base for the Russian Navy will appear on the Black Sea coast in Abkhazia. An agreement between Russia and Abkhazia has already been signed. A Russian naval base will be opened in Ochamchira Bay. It is still unknown what ships will be based there; Russia has now transferred part of its fleet from Sevastopol to Novorossiysk. At the moment, in the city of Ochamchira there is a base for patrol ships of the coast guard of the Border Service of the FSB of Russia; it has been operating since 2017. Plans to create a base for the Russian fleet in Ochamchira were announced 14 years ago, in the summer of 2009. The Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Vladimir Vysotsky, then estimated the duration of construction of the base at two to three years.

Russian special forces units tested the Sosna-N anti-sniper complex. The Sosna-N automated complex was first presented in 2021. The Sosna-N optical locator is a remotely controlled laser-optical installation that can automatically detect any optical devices conducting observation or targeting. The complex operates at a distance of up to 2.5 kilometers and can detect and completely illuminate the sniper’s optics with oncoming radiation. The video shows a sniper scope detected at a range of 2300 meters. The complex itself weighs only 4.6 kg, and comes with a special tablet weighing 1.1 kg. The operation of the complex does not depend on the time of day. The complex is capable of operating around the clock in a fully automatic mode using special software. The power supply of the complex is 12 Volts, the complex can also be installed on cars.

The only indoor museum in the world opened in Kronstadt, which housed an entire nuclear submarine. The main exhibit of the Museum of Naval Glory in Kronstadt was the first Soviet nuclear submarine K-3 Leninsky Komsomol. Now it is one of the most unique military museum sites in the world. This is not an installation, but a full-size first Soviet nuclear submarine of Project 627 Kit. The creation of the K-3 submarine was a national task in the USSR—35 institutes, more than 20 design bureaus, and about 100 industrial enterprises worked on its solution. The progress of construction of the first nuclear submarine was strictly classified. It was forbidden to even take the drawings into the workshop where the nuclear-powered ship was being built. Before a work shift, workers entered a specially designated room, read the drawings and memorized them. Secrecy was also maintained for the crew; when training sailors at the first Soviet nuclear power plant, they were forbidden to even call each other by name. To restore the submarine, a complex project was developed and implemented to relocate the K-3 nuclear submarine from the Kola Peninsula, from the Nerpa shipyard in the city of Snezhnogorsk, Murmansk region, to St. Petersburg. The K-3 submarine "Leninsky Komsomol" was launched in 1957 and withdrawn from the Northern Fleet in 1991. The service history of the K-3 submarine was difficult and sometimes tragic.
