GEMED has been through acceptance tests and now in service. Will be used to assess survivability of ships and operational planning of current vessels for certain scenarios and missions. Also will be used for maturing design (components, weapon systems, sensors) for modernization and new buildings.

Gonna guess this is just an random design/concept they threw in?

Isn’t the Helideck smaller than usual, or is it the angle ?
It is only for UAVs but it gets larger by shrinking hangar. The design is/was being worked as highly modular.

News Release by STM

Acceptance tests have been completed for the Naval Warfare Effectiveness Analysis Model (GEMED) Project. The developed simulation system will strengthen the capability of the Turkish Naval Forces in the analysis and procurement phases of system and tactical development processes. The GEMED Model will increase the Turkish Navy's combat readiness level, allowing analysis of battle scenarios through batch runs in a virtual environment before actual field application.

Developing advanced technologies in the Turkish defence industry, STM Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik ve Ticaret A.Ş. continues to equip the Turkish Army with indigenous and innovative software systems. STM has successfully completed the acceptance tests of the Naval Warfare Effectiveness Analysis Model (GEMED).

Operations will first be experimented in virtual environment before actual field application

Commenting on the project, Özgür Güleryüz, General Manager of STM, reminded that STM has significant experience in the creation of simulation and decision support solutions.
We are strengthening our Navy by producing modern, national platforms. In addition to that, we are developing software systems that will add intelligence to these platforms and supply decision support to their headquarters. As a simulation-based decision support solution, GEMED will allow our Naval Forces to evaluate the combat effectiveness of existing -or designed- military platforms and their applied -or proposed- tactics by providing scientific decision support . We have developed models of nearly 100 combat elements and their subsystems. These platform, sensor, weapon, and countermeasure models will allow effectiveness analyses for surface, underwater and air operations. Battle scenarios might be tested many times in a virtual environment before being actually applied in the field. GEMED will increase our Naval Forces’ combat readiness level”, Güleryüz said.

More than 40 different operations have been tested in GEMED Model

Developed by Turkish engineers, GEMED provides decision support for ship design/modernization, procurement and tactical development. More than 40 operations, in naval, air and underwater domain, have been ran and tested so far. The analysts can assign different tasks to relevant platform models and even create conditional plans. Through multiple runs, experimental design and multi-criteria decision-making techniques; different platform-system configurations and tactics might be inspected in varying environmental conditions.

Is there a chance that this might change the design of our upcoming ships in any way? It sounds like a very interesting and useful tool.

It has been used on two to be used on more. Not that there also exists TN in the project.
However, the critical point is that now TN and designer will be able to introduce new threats into the software, or test new strategies with new kind of weaponry or defense units. It will be available to the both component developer and designer of the vessel with the components developed.

In other words, if any producer is to develop a CIWS, they may test how effective it will be on the targeted design through this software and reiterate it.

HVLAS is Produced through Indigenous and National Means for the First Time

View attachment 62060

STM, the leading Turkish company in the field of naval platforms, ensured the production of the Helicopter Visual Landing Aid System (HVLAS), which is used on warships, for the first time in Türkiye through indigenous and national means. The system will be used both on the Turkish Naval Forces’ ships and for naval export projects.

Developing innovative and national solutions in line with Türkiye’s goal of establishing a fully independent defence industry, STM Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik ve Ticaret A.Ş. took another critical step in its indigenisation and nationalisation efforts aimed at naval platforms.

The Helicopter Visual Landing Aid System (HVLAS), which is used on surface warships and has been supplied from abroad until now, is being produced in Türkiye thanks to STM’s indigenisation efforts.

First Export Achieved

HVLAS has been developed jointly by STM and Berkin Defence Engineering, and it can be used on all domestic naval surface platforms, including those developed under the MiLGEM National Corvette Project. STM will integrate the indigenously developed HVLAS aboard two corvettes, which are being constructed under an ongoing export project. Thus, Türkiye will achieve the first export of the HVLAS, developed for the first time by a domestic company using national resources.

Güleryüz: We were procuring from abroad; now we are developing indigenously.

Özgür GÜLERYÜZ, General Manager of STM, stating that STM had achieved many pioneering naval platform projects in Türkiye, from design to turnkey projects, said:

“We nationalise not only the construction of our ships but also the critical systems used aboard the platforms, thanks to our strong local ecosystem. The HVLAS, which allows helicopters to land safely on ships, was previously supplied from abroad as it was not produced in Türkiye. We have developed the HVLAS together with Berkin Defence and thus introduced an indigenous and national product in this field for the first time in Türkiye. Our HVLAS is capable of competing with equivalent products around the world since it makes the work of helicopter pilots easier, allows quick manoeuvres in field operations, and has a progressive and modern structure. It also allows us to further increase the indigenisation rate of our ships that we construct for the Turkish Naval Forces or our export projects. We are currently integrating the HVLAS aboard two corvettes being constructed under an export project. Then we plan to equip our national frigate project, MiLGEM 6-7-8, with this national system. The development of HVLAS allowed us to not only acquire cutting-edge technology capability but simultaneously prevent the drainage of foreign currency from our nation while also bolstering our exports through a high-value-added product. We will consistently share good news about our achievements in naval platforms indigenisation."

Eyes and Ears of Helicopter Pilots: HVLAS

Consisting of visual guidance and flight deck lighting equipment and comprising pieces of software that ensure system equipment to operate in an appropriate configuration, having been developed by indigenous and national means, HVLAS enables helicopter pilots to landing with safely on ships during both day and night operations. HVLAS allows pilots to operate safely at night and at times when visibility is not convenient, minimising the workload of pilots. HVLAS can be used aboard all naval surface platforms, including corvettes, frigates, logistics support ships, or tanker ships with helicopter platforms.

Decided to quote our brother @Bürküt .

Port acceptance tests of the ADVENT Combat Management System Link-22 capability were successfully completed on the ISTANBUL frigate under the coordination of ARMERKOM. After the frigate İSTANBUL completes the Sea Acceptance Tests, Link-22 activation will be carried out on our TCG ANADOLU, TCG ORUÇREİS, TCG KINALIADA, TCG UFUK, DERYA and PİRİ REİS ships, making them among the leading countries with Link-22 capability in NATO.

This shouldn't go unnoticed amongs all. Turkish Loyd is not a member of IACS, known to be respectable - champions' league of classification societies. Moreover, this means now there is a greater export potential for some platforms as some customers desire the classification society to be a member of IACS (and therefore, TR rejects any foreigner classification societies for certain platforms, as a classification society gathers all data regarding to a platform, including tests).

We see F511 "Heybeliada" and F512 "Büyükada" frigates signs
So both of them are modified?
Or those are CGI pictures?

Imagine a VLS system on top with hisar and vertical launched umtas and others. Ada class lacks in air defence, one RAM is not sufficient there are blind spots if hit by multiple missiles.

There is helicopter hangar and no way to install vls without removing helicopter hangar

As you can see the space above helicopter compartment has been raised. I don't know how big in length Hisar is but it is possible I believe. Just think existent RAM pointed upwards.
