I haven't seen this one before and It is nearly same as the OPV Turkish Navy is going to acquire and being designed by ASFAT.

India
Indian OPVs would be much cheaper. OPVs do not carry missiles or weapons, so there would be no integration issues. BD could explore something with Indian shipyards.

I don't understand why we need to negotiate with UK if they want to build three OPVs in their shipyards when the original plan is to build all six locally. Lots of companies have proven OPV design, we could just choose another supplier. If we really want BAE as the supplier then let them build only 1/2 vessels but not more than that.

The goal should be generate local jobs, saving money and gaining experience as much as we can.

A PUBLIC-OWNED Scots shipyard is in talks to build warships for the Bangladesh navy.

Ferguson Marine, which is owned by the Scottish Government, has held talks for future shipbuilding contracts.

The shipyard, which was nationalised in 2019, is reportedly negotiating possible contracts for military ships for the Bangladesh Navy.

A spokesperson for the shipyard told the Sunday Mail: "We are involved in discussions with multiple potential customers, both domestic and international, for contracts covering a range of vessel types including ferries, offshore patrol vessels and offshore wind farm service vessels.

“We are actively pursuing the next vessel order but all discussions are commercially sensitive.

“Details of any secured contract will be announced when the time is right.”

The shipyard has been the centre of a scandal involving the construction of two ferries.

The long-running saga saw the ailing Port Glasgow shipyard nationalised and costs to the taxpayer for two new CalMac ferries soaring to at least £240million.

No vessels have been delivered, nearly seven years later.

And Audit Scotland criticised a “multitude of failings” in the delivery of Glen Sannox and Hull 802 with the contract awarded without the normal financial safeguards.

Audit Scotland blasted problems at Ferguson Marine.

It said there was a lack of transparent decision-making, project oversight or a "clear understanding of what significant sums of public money have achieved".

Last month, SNP cabinet chief Keith Brown was dragged into the ongoing saga - as documents suggesting he gave the nod to the doomed shipyard deal.

Papers obtained by The Scottish Sun revealed Mr Brown - who was Infrastructure Secretary in 2015 - was asked to sign off on the £96 million deal in August that year, as then Transport Minister Mr Mackay was absent.

There is nothing to suggest that Mr Brown did not sign off on the Ferguson shipyard as it was confirmed as the preferred bidder just days later.

Doesn't look like they'll get the deal unless they bribe BN or build all ships in CDDL.

"If Ferguson Marine was in the running for the work it could mean a company owned by the Scottish Government bidding for a contract from the UK Government.

Alternatively, if the Scottish Government or Ferguson Marine was attempting to negotiate directly with Bangladesh, it could lead to a dispute between Holyrood and Westminster.

Labour MSP Paul Sweeney said: “It would be great if Ferguson Marine won this work but that is far from certain.

“Even if it did it wouldn’t solve the long term challenges for shipbuilding in Scotland.

“The company needs to build from a base of delivering the two CalMac ferries, which it has failed to do so far.

“The Scottish and UK Governments should be coming up with a joined-up national plan for shipbuilding that utilised all of the assets we have across the county but we are not getting that at the moment.”

Nice. Good job for British people and they make good ships, even if they are all over budget and years behind schedule, however I think they will pull their finger out for a foreign government and to push Scottish independence. So its good for Bangladesh too.

So did they build any new naval vessel after FPV Jura? Looks like they're not part of Type-31 program anymore.

So Korea is probably offering a customized HDP-1500 to BN too.

Wonder if HMS Tamar's visit was part of sales pitch for OPV project and if we're close to finalize the deal for OPV project. Turkish ambassador was also talking about navy's project earlier.

"That was reinforced by a comprehensive tour of Tamar for Bangladeshi sailors who are keen to learn about the role and capabilities of the relatively new River-class vessels.

Tamar’s marine engineers conducted damage control training, and highlighted their ship’s ‘green’ features which make the ship the greenest in the Fleet – of particular interest as Bangladesh is frequently the victim of the effects of climate change."


Turkey will work to modernize Bangladesh Navy and Air Force. The country is interested to build helicopter engine with Bangladesh.
