Naval Group launched the French Navy FREMM air defence frigate FS Lorraine (D657) throughout a ceremony in Lorient on Friday, Nov. 13.
FS Lorraine is the second of the 2 FREMM FREDA/ FREMM DA frigates, with enhanced air defence capabilities, ordered by the French protection procurement company, Basic Directorate of Armament (DGA), on behalf of the French Navy. The FREMM Lorraine is the tenth unit of the FREMM collection produced by Naval Group, and the eighth and final one to be added to the French Navy’s fleet.
The French Minister of Armed Forces (Minister of Defence) Florence Parly, Admiral Pierre Vandier, Chief of Workers of the French Navy, and Basic Engineer Emmanuelle Thivillier, in control of naval applications on the French Basic Directorate of Armament (DGA) in addition to the Chairman and CEO of Naval Group, Pierre Eric Pommellet, alongside workers from the Lorient web site participated to the launching ceremony.
Fifty-four months after the beginning of the manufacturing, the FREMM DA Lorraine left the development type of Naval Group web site in Lorient. This operation happened on Friday, totally complying with the schedule set by the Navy Planning Legislation.
