Naval Group today launched the multi-missions FREMM frigate "Lorraine". It is the second of two air-defence frigates known as FREMM DA (Frégate Européenne Multimissions de Défense Aérienne) and the final FREMM for the French Navy (Marine Nationale).

Fremm's good multirole ships. Yes maybe frenchs and italians have a less numbered airdefence ship but they are can already launch aster's from freems, but yours can say his 32 vls capability is not enough.

But yours forget one thing, Yes aster-15 doesnt have quadpack capability on paams but , camm and camm-er have a quadpack capability on paams. İtalians already buy it. France can buy him.

Freems can carry easily 32x camm + 16 aster-30 or block-2 + 8 mdcn on land attack ; 32x camm + 16 aster-30 or block-2 + 8 vl-asroc on asw mission ; 40x camm + 22 aster-30 or block-2 on AAW mission.

Yours can say but his radar doesnt so much good for that kind open sea missions. They are have a seafire 500 radar who same level with an/spy-1 and they can easily fit him onto freems. For this reason freems radar masts designed huge when compared small herakles radar.

Naval Group launched the French Navy FREMM air defence frigate FS Lorraine (D657) throughout a ceremony in Lorient on Friday, Nov. 13.

FS Lorraine is the second of the 2 FREMM FREDA/ FREMM DA frigates, with enhanced air defence capabilities, ordered by the French protection procurement company, Basic Directorate of Armament (DGA), on behalf of the French Navy. The FREMM Lorraine is the tenth unit of the FREMM collection produced by Naval Group, and the eighth and final one to be added to the French Navy’s fleet.

The French Minister of Armed Forces (Minister of Defence) Florence Parly, Admiral Pierre Vandier, Chief of Workers of the French Navy, and Basic Engineer Emmanuelle Thivillier, in control of naval applications on the French Basic Directorate of Armament (DGA) in addition to the Chairman and CEO of Naval Group, Pierre Eric Pommellet, alongside workers from the Lorient web site participated to the launching ceremony.

Fifty-four months after the beginning of the manufacturing, the FREMM DA Lorraine left the development type of Naval Group web site in Lorient. This operation happened on Friday, totally complying with the schedule set by the Navy Planning Legislation.

The reason the sea fire 500 wasn't integrated to the Alsace and Lorraine is only due to timing,so a "boosted" Herakles radar was chosen.

The French Navy urgently needs two air defence frigates to replace the Cassard that has been decommissioned in 2019 and the Jean Bart that will be decommissioned next year.
