PM Imran Khan Khan has warned that if people fail to follow the standard operation protocols [SOPs] for covid he will have no choice but to lockdown the country. In order to prevent a disaster like we are seeing in India the army has been placed on standby to enforce SOPs as the public has become lax after 18 months of restrictions. The army will reinforce police to ensure SOPs are followed.

Yes you must learn from the drastic situation India is facing on ground right now, the 2nd wave timing is about the same for Pakistan overall....so just prevent the unneeded gatherings and shield all elderly as much as possible.....and have abudance of testing as possible.

The good news is that US has (apparently) opened up release of lot of COVAX (astrazeneca) related input (that India was asking for more than a week now and getting nothing on).

i.e COVAX should be available soon to Pakistan (and most other developing countries worldwide) again (it took a strong impact on the UN program w.r.t availability from India)....compared to the month or more that US spent hogging these inputs from the world program.

Following the National Coordination Committee's (NCC) decision, the Sindh government has written to the federal government, it emerged on Sunday, seeking the deployment of army personnel in the province to ensure adherence to Covid-19 precautionary SOPs.
"The services of armed forces of Pakistan in aid of civil power are required under Article 245 of the Constitution of Pakistan," read a letter penned by the home department to the federal interior ministry.
"Exact nature of deployment of troops and equipment will be communicated in due course of time after carrying out requisite assessment in consultation with [the] quarters concerned," the communique added.
The letter further stated that, "It is, therefore, requested to kindly accord approval for deployment of Armed Forces in aid of Civil Power in the Province of Sindh."

Lets hope so.

Unfortunately the situation in Pakistan has been underreported in many cases and i am seeing a massive spread and i doubt there exists anybody right now who does know someone who either suffered, or is suffering or has died from the Corona Virus. The problem are the SOPs and with the rising temperatures, the mask are coming off as people simply cant breath through the masks in this humidity and then there is the religious angle. For example my neighbor is part of the milad committee. Every friday this guy holds a dars with dozens of jaamatis from the nearby barelvi mosque and recently he has joined TLP to further his political agenda and has started holding these dars and meetings of the committee. The oly SOPs followed there are the ones related to fasting. :lol

With Eid coming up, there is genuine risk of a spike. It has been impossible to stop people from praying taraweeh (a religious congregation post Iftari where the Quran is read).

Yes Pakistan has very low testing rate and other issues going on.

Even with India medical capacity (perspective w.r.t developing countries average), the big issue that is now coming out was the very lax+slow approach to local lab research w.r.t new strains/sequences as they pop up in real time.....as opposed to developed countries where they do these very quickly and take extra precautions early on those like canary in coalmine. So this thing will apply to developing world in general I think.....past the more well known issues of crowd gatherings and reluctance/ignorance for pandemic safety.

I just get angry/frustrated/sad more I read this stuff....I am staying away from the typical news now and just doing my donation to credible groups on the ground...it is only thing I feel is useful rather than wallow in bad feelings. There is going to be plenty of that later anyway.

May God help all our countries and all our people.
