A modernized anti-drone rocket, the S-8VTs, has been developed in Russia. Based on the 80mm S-8 rocket, it has been adapted for use on Ka-52M, Mi-8AMTSH-V, and Ka-29 helicopters. Pilots have also confirmed that a modernized version of the Vikhr (Whirlwind) missile is being used by aviation assets, now capable of engaging drones as well. (A review of the standard Vikhr missile can be found via the link in the video comments.) The S-8VTs anti-drone rockets are already in service; they have been spotted on Ka-52M helicopters. To employ these rockets, the helicopters are equipped with upgraded onboard radar systems and specialized B810-UV launcher pods. The rocket weighs 17.5 kg and features a high-explosive fragmentation warhead with a programmable fuze. According to some reports, the rocket is equipped with its own onboard radar-based homing seeker. The operational range of the S-8VTs is between 400 and 4,000 meters, depending on the type of helicopter.
