Turkey is starting to build its new fighter jet under the TF-X program, while the United States is finalizing its 6th generation fighter jet. Does Turkey want to eliminate its dependence on big countries such as the United States and Russia for their country's defense equipment? Like wanting to be one of the world's military role models.
It takes at least 50-60 years for the US to put the 6th planes into use.

Apart the S-400 system Turkiye didn't buy weapons from Russia.

Because defence weapons are used as leverage also if a war happens we dont want to be dependant we learnt the hard way during the late Ottoman era where the British and French witheld weapons while confiscating our money while the Germans used it as leverage against us while selling shit quality at expensive prices. Ataturk did actually set up defence industry plan to makecTurkiye build its own stuff until his death and his successors who accepted the marshall plan and closed down factories because it was cheaper and easier to buy.

The other wake up call was in 1974 Cyprus where we faced sanctions and embargoes.

Thats why the Turkish defence industry is literally touted as the next independance war because its literally a must as the nations livelihood depends on a independant defence industry.

Also contributes to the economy, creates jobs, innovations and inventions. While it also allows you to sell to other countries which in turn buys not just hard power but also soft power example Bayraktar Song

Also Turkiye is doing a wake up call to everybody.

Build your own shit dont buy never be dependant on another nation for your defence.

Military weapons have always been instruments of foreign policy especially leverage.

Turkiye bought Leopard 2 tanks and the Germans say you cant use it against pkk or any conflict. Lets buy a fcking Porsche and keep it in the garage you see the stupid logic.

Our allies cant be trusted at all.

Good question!
But every country has different priorities and different approach to defence matters.
Over the years, Turkey learnt the hard way not to be totally dependent on foreign military equipment. To this date the backbone of Turkish military equipment has been coming predominantly from US. Russia has never been a regular supplier of defence equipment to Turkey, if you discard the 2 batteries of S400 and 30 odd helicopter purchases and some small quantity of ATGMs bought in the past there hasn’t been any Russian input in to Turkish defence equipment.
Naval ships purchased or donated, used to be all US built. Then German ships with local manufacturing options became popular. Now Turkey can design and build her own indigenous naval platforms sans engines. (Engine manufacturing is the soft belly of Turkish defence industry. And it is being addressed)
Same story can be seen in Land Forces too. Gradually US dependence is being relinquished.
Airforce is the most technologically challenged area to be free from dependence. But slowly and gradually with subsystems and the main platforms we are aiming to become self sufficient.
TFX is being designed as a 5th generation fighter jet. But it has many attributes that are planned and would be synonymous with a 6th generation plane. It is a project that is open to continuous development. Currently due to it’s engine restrictions it may not be a fully fledged 5th generation stealth fighter. But it will be when the locally built engine is finished. When more and more of the developments are incorporated, it will close the gap between herself and the so called 6th generation planes. Already the AI it will have will be like 2 pilots using the plane whilst only having a single pilot. Hence when the time comes Turkey can either start her own 6th generation fighter program or be a partner to a multinational consortium quite easily.
To “eliminate” total dependence is a big word. Even US, Russia and China are dependent on other countries when it comes to defence equipment subsystems. Many parts that make major defence equipment of these countries are manufactured abroad. It is the level and specific elimination of dependence that is the key. If you can obtain a part from multiple sources cheaper than you can manufacture, then you don’t need to produce it yourself.
That is what Turkey is aiming for. Whether she can be a role model is a different debate.

I am gonna be honest in fact it is too early to speak for anything all we do here is speculating but sure these speculations are based on known offical statments and some facts. At the moment I dont really care much about how many MMU we will manufacture per month or per year but all I care is to see MMU as a reality since This is by far the biggest, the most complex and probably the most vital project that we ever had.
Thats what T. Kotil said in an interview.

The fact that Türkiye is making the TFX as the sole proprietor allows Türkiye to steer the project any direction we want to include the technologies that suits our requirements.

id like to add that most of the 6th gen characteristics can be added to the TFX with minimal engineering changes. An engine with beefier APU would make sure all the necessary ISR and CIWS equipment would be sufficiently powered, ensuring at least 70% of the 6th gen characteristics to be achieved and making the aircraft at least 5++gen.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think not even a stronger APU would be needed. As most 6th gen fighters use very advanced AI which can adapt energy saving measures to do more actions while using less energy than a pilot would.

well, yeah. absolutely, but concepts debuted in one generation of fighters usually matures in the next generation of fighters. (eg. stuff like pulse-doppler radar, off-sight targeting and terrain-warning systems debuted in third-gen fighters, but perfected in fourth-gen fighters.) therefore having a beefier APU would provide necessary overhead for improvement.

Turkish Aerospace Industry Will Accelerate Projects 4 Times with 50 Thousand Core Computers

-Turkish Aerospace Industries has added a new one to its infrastructure investments in information technologies in order to perform the analyzes needed in the projects.

-Turkish Aerospace Industries, which increased the number of processors that had previously reached to 20 thousand cores by 3.5 times and became a pioneer in this field by investing in high performance cluster computers with additional 50 thousand cores. Current total capacity is 70 thousand cores.

-Turkish Aerospace Industries General Manager Prof. Dr. Temel Kotil said the following regarding the investment:
“Today, digital tests have started to replace physical tests. In order to carry out these tests, numbering up to millions, and to analyze the data, we have brought our country to the next level in the field of aviation.

-Our investments will enable us to realize our projects in a shorter time. We will continue to bring all the new generation technologies used by the world in the field of aviation to our company.”

-With the new investment, which will shorten the duration of the tests carried out in all product groups, especially the National Combat Aircraft.

-Thanks to the new investment, the time of thousands of interconnected calculations will be reduced to a quarter.

-Turkish Aerospace Industries also will bring the human resources who can analyze multiple tests at the same time to the aviation ecosystem.

Considering inexperince of country on fighters and instability in politics. I really do not expect any matured tfx platform before 2050s. Like todays rafale f4 or eurofighter t4.
I think it is really necessary to find interim solution for TurAf.

It sounds like you are not talking about Türkiye.
The same government has been in power in the past 20 years and you are talking about instability.
We are counting months to fly two jet fighters, one manned and the other unmanned and you are talking about inexperience. What experience did Baykar have before they made a legend like the TB2.
TAI have thousands of engineers and even foreign assistance to complement and they have already made ATAK and Hürkuş and even exported them. We have everything in place. Have some faith.

All you need is faith, and trust! Sounds awfully familiar…
The plane will be built within 9 months and the time-frame suggested for maturation is 28 years from today. Such a huge disbelief in capabilities of Türkiye, right next to an insult.

Just looking at evolution of rafale fighters from first flight to today, if took quite a lot of time to develop a matured platfrom.
A honeywell tpe331 engine is certified to fly in 1965. Do we have any certified engine right now?
There is s reason why there are very few manufacturers in aviation industry.

You should know very well technology evolves quicker nowadays than it did many decades ago. TAI have just recently started using Artificial Intelligence to cut down test processes by 70%. They have 70.000 core computers to do calculations. We can see how quickly all three jet fighter projects are progressing. We only have a couple years to see how well we are doing our projects.

I hope that it will yield faster technological advancement with continuous political support of governments in long term.
