For international news, definitely europeans etc are far better in balanced and priority coverage.

That's mostly because they have to compete with fox news in who can have the most trashiest takes and have to pull double duty as a fact checkers for fox. I mean usually you don't need multiple takes to say the election weren't stolen.

Most news outlets just report it and move on but I guess they need to cash in on liberal smugness cash the same as Fox news on the outrage market. But if it's at least factual CNN can be as smug as they want. CNN international at least are not as bias as their main channel.

My favorite though is Al Jazeera, DW, BBC & I've been watching France 24. Also CNA for their top covering of the myanmar crisis.

I just avoid US media whatever stripe it is. Past CNN and FOX......MSNBC, ABC, NBC etc etc...they are all pretty bad nowadays. I am getting too much opinion trying to pass off as facts in all of them.

At any rate, I found a good collection of diverse news + op-ed perspective outside of US MSM ecosystem.

It is just early days. Last time there was this scale of protesting (in the main Burmese cities) was in the 80s under the final years of Ne Win despot rule (which he got after the first coup against the earlier democratic setup)....final death toll not known...but likely in the 1000s. Then SLORC (rest of military basically) did a coup against Ne Win ending it...and promising fairer mandate demanded by students and monks etc.

That was major reason the election for new constitution formation was done in first place (and the result ignored by SLORC, after it had consolidated enough power anyway and saw no reason to share with Aung San's daughter).

The sukarno, suharto eras were tumultuous on another scale given all kind of cold-war ideology fear and seeking to establish national unity at any cost, given Indonesia was a new country. We had lot of blood-letting in South Asia during partition time and Bangladesh formation for example too. These situations are whole different ball games compared to one Burma saw and is seeing.

Burma faced a more longer term civil war (at lower intensity but still significant), given Aung San died very early before he can give bedrock principle to the country...the after effects are still there, the noticeable them is of course the position of the military in the country's politics.

Its long story. Yes I am urban dweller for most part of my life (and still am)....but I dont like hypocrites and liars. i.e People that live in bubbles and preach and sermon about things they know nothing about (or follow such folks like sheep), because it feels good in some way to them.

There is a very thick vein of hypocrisy and bubble echo chambers in lot of the urban elites of north america.

I have various issues with "heartlander" "redneck" etc etc (that tend to be the "conservative" base), but I feel they at least say what they mean and mean what they say for the most part....so I can actually get some basis as to what they seek and what their real concerns and attitude is. They do not come across as sheep....I just get along with them lot more I find. They are also most resistant to marxist undermining crap....which I think is very important....you need to have something rooted that is valuable and unique.

Most asian immigrants here align with the liberals and democrats (given they are seemingly more pro-diversity and pro-immigration etc)....but there is growing number that see through the BS (its all just power grab elitism stuff in the end etc). I count myself in latter group. I just want a genuine relationship with people...what do you really think etc and no silly games that waste everyone time and worse.

Sanders followers are just bunch of youngsters that don't know about how this world works. Same here also in Indonesia, many youngsters1 are to the left.

For me personally, I'm ok with someone who socially progressive, but for so called economically progressive (pro to the policy that could killed the economy), no thanks. Im kind of in the middle for economic policy.

Turkish aid for Rohingya reaches Bangladesh​

A Turkish military cargo plane carrying hospital supplies and a field hospital for Bangladesh arrived on Saturday following the March 22 deadly blaze in Cox’s Bazar which shelters thousands of Rohingya refugees.

“Despite so many challenges due to the pandemic and prevailing situation, the cargo plane safely reached Cox’s Bazar and we expect that the construction work of the hospital will be started immediately,” Ismail Gundogdu, Bangladesh’s coordinator of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency, told Anadolu Agency.

On the instructions of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and Health Ministry along with the Environment and Urbanization Ministry began work to deliver aid to the region.
A new field hospital, prepared to help the damaged Turkish field hospital become operational again, was loaded on an A 400M-type military cargo plane at the Etimesgut Military Airport in the capital Ankara early Saturday.
A total of 22 personnel from the Turkish Health Ministry, AFAD, and Turkey's Housing and Development Administration also reached Bangladesh.
The Turkish field hospital was one of the largest healthcare centers in the refugee camp said to be the world's largest. It houses more than 1.2 million Rohingya refugees including the 750,000 who fled violence and persecution in Myanmar in August 2017.
The UN has confirmed that at least 15 people have been killed, 560 injured, and 400 still missing, while at least 10,000 shelters have been destroyed.
Besides others, Turkish humanitarian agencies have also mobilized their resources to respond to the emergency.
The Turkish field hospital had been providing medical services to 1,000 patients every day until it was completely destroyed by fire on Monday. “Of the beneficiaries, 70% were Rohingya and 30% were members of the host community," Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh Mustafa Osman Turan told Anadolu Agency earlier.
The hospital served a total of 512,101 patients since its establishment in 2018, according to hospital records.
Turan said on Saturday that a second plane will arrive in a week and the field hospital will resume its health services, tweeting: "5 days after the massive fire which wreaked havoc in Rohingya refugee camps & totally destroyed the Turkish field hospital, Turkey resent a new field hospital by a military cargo plane. A second plane will arrive in a week & the field hospital will resume its health services."

Harsh response from the UK foreign Secretary & State department after latest massacre in Myanmar. To be honest this will not amount to anything due to the fact that the Armed Forces Junta controlling Myanmar right now can only be removed via Western Military Intervention.

Which got me thinking how would a hypothetical Western Military Intervention in Myanmar look like?

The only Western countries I can see getting involved are:

UK (Former Colonial Power)
USA
Canada
France
Australia

I firmly believe that the ASEAN countries will sit out as not to risk the wrath of China and the Myanmar Military who possess long range North Korean missiles up to 700km in range. India will be neutral (as they are fine with either the armed forces Junta or Opposition ruling the country) and so will Bangladesh.

Public opinion in Western Countries will probably be against sending in ground troops although I would not count out US and UK sending in small teams of Special Forces covertly to train and equip opposition rebels/militia.

The US, UK and France would have to send their navy carriers and frigates to the Andaman sea. Could this be the first chance to see Western Nations use F-35 in action? Also would Turkey's use of attack drone warfare influence a drone based strategy to hit military targets in Myanmar?

I can see a small 2 week or so air operation take place. I don't think Western Nations have the stomach for a ground war or a long air war for that matter. The hypothetical 2 week operation would be designed to send a message to Myanmars military by targeting it's Air Defence, C2, C3, Air Defence network, Ballistic Missiles, Runways, Air Force regime ammo stockpiles and heavy military equipment. Clearing the way for rebels and opposition to gain territory and thus put pressure on the Junta to accept some sort of peace deal I suppose?

That being said could the Myanmar Military defend itself from a hostile Air Attack with some level of success? Let's take a look at their air defence network shall we:

The Myanmar Air Force also possesses some capable air craft to defend their skies such as:

SU-30 (to be delivered???)

J-7 (Chinese moderinized Mig-21 copy)

So the Myanmar Military has air defence that covers all levels. It mostly consists of upgraded Soviet legacy systems and some slightly more modern Chinese and Russian systems. That being the case if a Western Military alliance performs using reckless tactics the Myanmar Air Defence could score some victories. After all an S-200 system in Syria managed to down an Israeli F-16 over the Golan a few years ago.

All the Myanmar Armed forces would need to do is shoot down 2-3 enemy fighter jets in the sky and negative Western public opinion would force their governments to grind any operation to a halt.

I for one am very interested to see how a Western Military intervention would look like in a post Brexit/Trump world...

Substantial amount of the buddhist clergy are aligned with the protestors/civilians...though some have aligned with junta too.

If it was other way around (most or all of them aligned with tatmadaw), this likely would have ended by now in tatmadaw favour.

It shows to me this is going to go on for quite a long time.....with the monks (3rd major wheel of society like thailand) throwing increasing weight with democracy and civvie population....and persisting the long term with it.
