Air-Force Turkey asks U.S. to buy 40 F-16 jets to upgrade Air Force

We have been making similar (although not as significant) mistakes in our decisions as we fail to foresee future needs. Prior to 2011 T70 contract, there was an option of 12 navalized choppers offered in the batch, crossed off of the deal by decision-makers. Now we are looking for navalized utility helicopters for TCG Anadolu, with only limited options available. That is if we could overcome the embargoes.

A minor setback compared to the S400 blunder, Altay tank fiasco and Ada class tender scandal.

Not to mention how they imprisoned innocent officers and filled the army ranks with gülenists that caused the 15th july coup d'etat.

This ruling party has done more to destroy the strength and reputation of the Turkish military than PKK or Greece.

Not really a maintenance nightmare, with the F-4s being taken out of service and does not have any parts compatible with F-16. There's enough capacity for the maintenance engineers to move on to a new platform. Compatibility depends - Turkey now has its own data links and IFF systems in place - I think Russia would be over the moon for NATO compliant systems being added to their jets.
F-4 is still US platform with all US standards.
Su-35 will have everything different and it does not give any real advantage over F-16 block 70.

But worst part is compatibility with communication systems Link 16 etc.

It's a moot point. They won't even dare sitting on the same table as Russia now.

They can't even activate the S400 systems out of fear that more sanctions will follow.

No need to talk about compatibility issues of a system we'll never have the balls to buy. Not money, balls.

So the request was made after the discussion with Putin. Is it only me or does it really look like Turkey is challenging US?

What are our alternatives?

Let's think of worst case and US is not selling F16blk 70 and blk 70 upgrade kits, than what? What are our options?

Can we upgrade the Blk 30 and blk 40 planes with Ozgur? = ~130 F16's

In how far are we dependent? Can't we replace the complete software of the F16 with Turkish software. Just thoughts buzzing my mind.

Is it possible to jointly produce fighter jet with Russia combining Turkish expertise on F-35 and Russian expertise on VTOL jets? Or perhaps this one ⤵️ Or can Turkey develop a Hurjet variant similar to KAi FA-50? (Feels like i saw discussion on the Hurjet part before)

I still believe Turkey wouldnt have gotten F-35 even if it didnt buy s-400, the FP in the last decade was a huge mess and too many lobbies working against Turkey within US

This is one way to solve the problem.

S400 is still biting our ass. All these years of acting though and as if it was a non issue and that we would not loose our edge over the neighbouring countries were lies. We could have had the first F35s by now, and now we're looking to panic buy F16s or even worse Russian junk.

That one will create big problem rather than solving it, do you think Russia will not get mad if Turkey doing that ?

First of all, we all know it's not going to happen. But if Turkish members here think that they are losing more than they gained from S-400 purchase then wouldn't it be better to get rid of the sole reason of this mess as Turkey is already working on their own LR-SAM system? It's not like most of Turkish weapons are Russians.

Turkish pilots were already flying in F-35s that were going to Turkey, people overestimate these lobbies, they don't have complete control over US foreign policy
The entire reason is CAATSA

I hope US dont accept and Turkey go for SU 35 supermaneuverable aircraft.
US is worst enemy of human kind , its zionist global devil that kills civilians and surpress coutries that dont accept to became his puppets puts economic sanctions as they want etc etc . Its nr 1 armament of Israeli and now arming YPG terrorists .
F 16 or any other aircraft has no chance with SU 35 dogfight , BVR missile is another story .
Imagine Su 35 with Turkish AESA radan amd avionics+other systems 😍🇹🇷💪🇷🇺
SU is aslo cheap and Turkey can buy 150 of them with 6-8 Billion

--On 20 August 2019, two Russian Air Force Su-35Ss, operating from the Khmeimim Air Base, intercepted two Turkish Air Force F-16s over the southern Idlib and forced them to leave the Syrian airspace.[102] On 26 August 2019, two Russian Su-35Ss intercepted an Israeli Air Force aircraft over the Mediterranean Sea preparing for a second wave of attacks on Syria.[103] Russian Su-35Ss again intercepted several Israeli aircraft over southern Syria on 10 September 2019 and prevented them from carrying out airstrikes.[104] Another interception allegedly occurred on 19 September 2019, when two Russian Su-35Ss intercepted Israeli aircraft preparing for airstrikes on suburbs of Damascus.[105] On 15 October 2019, a Turkish F-16 fighter was intercepted by Russian Su-35Ss and forced to retreat as it was attempting to bomb the Syrian Democratic Forces's headquarters in Manbij.[106] On 12 November 2019, Russian Su-35Ss intercepted an Israeli fighter during airstrikes on Damascus.[107] On 7 December 2019, several Israeli aircraft were intercepted by Russian Su-35Ss and forced to retreat during an attempt to bomb the T-4 Airbase
Su-35 is garbage A F-16 armed with amraams can easily shotdown them stop posting russian propaganda

Greek, Armenian and Kurd (LOL) Lobby power is almost non influential in the US Congress. The majority of their Reps are little names with no power.

But Turkish lobbying is non existent because we always dependent on Israel to have our back while relations were good.

Israel is the only real lobbying power in the US.

When our relations soured the Israelis stopped having our back and we got stuck with the Long end of the stick meanwhile these failures of lobby groups are trying to credit themselves with this fact.

Our mistakes were not building up our lobbying effort on the US early on and souring relations with Israel for a group that recognizes and hold events for the Armenian „genocide“ and even hosted pkk commanders.

This is what happens when you do stuff on a whim for domestic consumption without thinking about the foreign policy effects.

With good relations with Israel we would have our F-35.

Yeah lets be the weakest Air force in the region
Certainly a possibility after Greece gets F35s

Russian plane is not going to happen. The only real options are Eurofighter and Gripen-E.

Neither of them are a match for F35

Not enough, we need a stealth fighter of our own and MMU is 10 years ahead.

We are pushed into a corner.

This situation reminds me of Armenia after they foolishly tried to move away from Russia.

Relationship with U.S. was destinated to fall anyway , every single time this topic opens you guys very conveniently forget how U.S. became main sponsor of PKK right after fall U.S.S.R. at early 90s and this support only increased as time passed.Thats when they decided since Soviets no longer a thing(Turkiye acting as bulwark againts Soviets) its better destroy this powerful muslim majority country to give more breathing room to Israel.

Wake the fuck up already. :cautious: Those days are gone , period.

Stop whitewashing U.S/Israel's crimes and putting on blame Turkiye every single time.
