Let's not go into detail about munitions or air defense systems. Here too the Greeks have the advantage.

- Turkey and USA negotiated a deal for Patriot systems but couldn't come to an agreement on price and the United States was not comfortable selling Turkey the technology to manufacture domestically.

- Turkey tried to force USA's hand by agreeing to negotiate for China's FD-2000 system, which pissed off the Americans.

- Turkey instead purchased Russia's S-400 system, which developing members of the F-35 program (which included Turkey) viewed as a potential security threat to their new, front line, 5th generation fighter.

- USA expelled Turkey from the F-35 program as a result of Turkey's refusal to walk away from the S-400 purchase.

- Turkey flirted with the idea of buying both F-16's and Eurofighters, but USA wasn't in a hurry to complete the deal.

- Turkey used its leverage on the issue of Sweden joining NATO to get USA to agree to the sale of 40 new block 70/72 Vipers and 80 upgrade kits for older model Turkish F-16s.

Seems like a good bit of international business for all sides to me. Especially after previous tensions!

If you left the F-35 deal, in which you were an industrial participant and benefited from it economically and technically, for the sake of aircraft, you would not be able to use your national munitions on them, and all this money is in munitions that you do not need because you have national alternatives at different stages of development, it is considered a miserable failure

This is very sad news, we ended up begging for F16 after losing F35, and now Greece is getting 40 F35 and we getting F16s. To me 40F35 is worth more than 300 F16... and this news increases the urgency of KAAN, it doesn't reduce it. I bet they are having a good laugh at how they scammed us. Plus we accepted Sweden... like if they are going to give that many F35 to Greece then what did we even negotiate for

Even with everything else we are looking to buy, we got fucked so hard. I'll let someone else try to tally all of it up, but there is no way it would get anywhere close to being worth 23 fucking billion dollars. Unbelievable.

This isn't even on the yanks, btw, this is on our government; not just because their erratic and short sighted policies got us booted out of F-35 program and made it borderline impossible for us to get any alternatives to F-16s, but also they still ended up grovelling in front of the yanks to get F-16s and bend over with our asses on air. If the roles were reversed, we would have fucked them like this as well. Well fucking done by us.

It seems Turkey was stuck in a cul-de-sac and couldn't wriggle out but in the end it opens the door on the F-35 program perhaps and the NOC for engines for the T-129 deal between Turkey and Pakistan .

It doesn't have to be, if we produce them ourselves again under license like before, then everything will be fine.
They won't be able to sell us the F-35 at the moment because they know it would mean a fundamental shift in power in Europe and the Middle East.
For us it means insights into sensor technology, avionics and AESA radar, the equivalent to the F-35. We could also improve the MURAD AESA radar and generally the software & hardware of the KAAN & Hürjet.
When the production lines are running, Turkey will be asked to produce F-16s for other countries as well, which will also generate money for TAI & Turkey.

I don't understand some people in this forum, we need these fighter planes, the Russian ones suck, and the Chinese only sell the Russian clones to other countries which suck just as much. They don't sell the good fighters to others, otherwise they would have done it long ago.
Europe does not sell Eurofighters to us, Turkey is a bigger threat in their eyes than Iran & Co.
KAAN & Hürjet need at least 7-8 years to be competitive not only on paper, but also in an emergency, i.e. in absolute practice.
The F-4 Phantoms II Terminator are falling apart, they have long since reached their sell-by date.
Until KAAN, Hürjet, Kizilelma, Anka 3 really perform within the desired parameters to compete with F-35, Eurofighter & Rafaele it will take at least another 7-8 years.
Until then, we need a transitional period with almost 300 F-16 Block 70/Özgur + various HALE/MALE drones for the next 10 years.

We can't just eat steak every day, we have to eat other foods too.
The same applies to fighter planes, the F-16 is well known and the maintenance and servicing is cheap.
It's a versatile workhorse, the US uses more of their F16 Vipers, F18 Super Hornets & F-15 Strike Eagles on their war missions than their F-35s & F-22s which are just too expensive to operate....

I mean we all know that Turkey is facing massive pressure from the Western world, and the need to have a middle-gap solution until KAAN enters mass production, and matures. However, making a huge 23 billion dollar deal??? For what?? Have the Americans made any concessions to Turkiye that are hidden? Let's say that the Americans refused to offer the F-35, but why not go for a twin-engine fighter like the F-15EX? 23 billion.........

Apart from that, the weight of money alone was the deciding factor in us getting this deal.
I'm sure some senators would have blocked it, but companies like Lockheed Martin & Co certainly told them underhand in no uncertain terms, "We'll fuck you if you block the deal, we're talking 23 billion if any of you fuckers even think about blocking it, we'll make sure you can forget your re-election".

There's also a reason why we're probably ordering tons of ammunition to create relationships so that the US doesn't get too nervous.
