As we already saw many times what kind of news are those. Another bla bla bla from usa .
Turkiye should keep walking its own way and follow own plans. Above kind of behavior are full with hidden tactics to trap Turkiye and use it as leverage against Turks.
It is a waste of time and logic to read and think about usa news when it is about Turkiye.

Link-16 protocol has been upgraded multiple times over its lifetime, with the latest upgrade bringing encryption coding/decoding capabilities. This must be about hardware relevant to that.

The smaller package is supposed to be a positive signal and a first step.

I believe the bigger one will be approved too, the question remains when it will be approved.

Small package?

That's $3mln per kit, I think that is the whole blk 70 kit

I wish they get additional fuel tank.
F-16s without conformal tanks are much more agile in dogfights. Not occupying hardpoints, may be a critical issue for strike missions, but I don't think it is 'must' for screening and interceptor missions. Strike missions are shifting towards drones in general. This will become much more visible, especially with AKINCI-C and Anka-3.

I think MRTT kits for A330s would be a much more strategic investment. (And with a solution based on the same A330s, we should increase the AWACS fleet size by turning to built-in-house production with our own radar and electronic warfare suite.) F-16s are already short-range front-line interceptors in the air force setup. For deep strike, F-4s should be replaced by twin-engine aircraft. IMHO F-16s with conformal tanks will not be a real equivalent in this sense.

This is about GCAS (ground collision avoidance system) and Link-16 upgrade. We will add GCAS to our F-16s and CCIP F-16s have link-16 but those will be updated to the latest standard. Unfortunately, we can't produce link-16 without permission from the US.

do you mean that it can't be made by Turkey without the US or do you mean that it can't be integrated without the US's permission?

It can probably be made and integrated by Turkiye without permission, but since its an encrypted radio, you'd need the US to give you the codes. And encryption codes are not to be just handed over. You'd usually ship the product back to where the code is, or someone trustworthy to deliver the code.

Ayesas can produce link-16 and TR obviously has access to the encryption but Ayesas can only produce link-16 if permission is granted similar to TAI building T-70 helicopters.

It is a disgrace to still not having upgraded the entire F-16 fleet to viper level locally. I am embarrassed for TUSAS and Aselsan. Since they themselves do not seem to have any shame for making us beg for extremely overpriced stuff from yanks.

Than you are emarrassed wrongly.

It is not Tusas or Aselsan stopping or delaying upgrades, they are "emir kulu".

Lockeed Martin does not even let Turkey upgrade block40/50s. It is not possible to upgrade them ourselves. They want to sell their own kit.
We are only allowed to do that for our block 30s.
we have more than 170 block 40/50s that's a lot of $$$ to earn for LM.
You do not simply understand f-16s or not our platforms, they are LM's we just bought them with certain conditions, one of them being we can not modify them without their consent. If we do so, at least they will stop working with us at most they will sue us in US courts that is going to end very badly for us.
