Turkey could take over all Syria with ease if they provided aid to rebels in 2011-2012. There was no need in ground troops at all. Just send some cheap arms and maybe shoot down some barrel bombers.

But Erdogan watched still as Assad leveled to ground Syrian cities and villages (including 1 million Syrian Turks), as ISIS invited by Assad took over most of the border with Turkey. When Americans intervened to fight ISIS, the only force they could rely on were Kurds. Then Erdogan started to panic and initiated ground operations. He was forced to make deals with cheating Russians and made stupid S-400 deal.
Sad, but true. I have no idea what we were doing. We just watched as the rebels failed at fighting Assad, who were then replaced by ISIS and then by PKK/YPG. It was pure retardation. Furthermore, AKP had aided YPG/PKK in the first 3-4 years of conflict.

Us and Israel have always been against Syria and worked to undermine her, don't play ignorant even as Israel occupies the Golan heights.

No contradiction. Israelis even went on record claiming they wanted syria to bleed itself and bleed the surrounding nations. Just like Isis never once attacked Israel but attacked Turkey many times.

Turkey couldnt have taken it, every step of the way america, russia and europe threatened Turkey not to enter. The more Turkey got involved the more the US and Russia involved themselves to counter Turkey. In the most recent idlib crisis erdogan literally had to threaten the EU with migrants if they stop the Turkish retalitaiton and naming it an invasion.

The reality is Turkey should have maintained the status quo for another 25 years. Then she would have her own planes, air defence systems etc. Then she could have entered when she pleased.

Once last thing when the Turks moved on al bab, both the US and Russia co-ordinated their moves against Turkey to close in on her on both sides.

Truth is Turkey needs 10 more years for her domestic air defence projects to mature, at that point shes taken the whole north of syria. Turks are not going to tolerate a communist terrorist state on their border forever.

Russians and the Americans agreed not to let Turkey have any space in Syria and not to get far.

We are suffering the consequnces because we beated around the bush and also due to the stupid acilim and the dumb ceasefire.

Dont forget Erdogan has also given power to the Kurds which allows them to have a say in the country. Dont forget how Kurds were ready for a uprising and a civil war in Turkey Cizre was just the start if wasnt for the Turkish armed forces we could have lost a huge chunk of our country. Think about this there are 10 million of them thats enough to cause a civil war from Diyarbakir to Edirne. But our politicians were turning a blind eye to it and cucking themselves to internal and external pressure.

Sad thing is most Turks refuse to wake up. But somehow im the racist here just for spitting facts.

Assad was a US lapdog since his childhood.

ISIS attacked Israel through Sinai. ISIS attacked Jewish targets in Europe. They could not attack Israel from Raqqa and Mosul for geographic reasons.

Turkey couldnt have taken it, every step of the way america, russia and europe threatened Turkey not to enter.
As I said just cheap old weapon supplies would kick Assad when he was on brink of collapse. But Erdogan did absolutely nothing and watched for years as Assad levels one town after another.

S-400 is not something that Turkey need so urgent, plus Turkey could buy such systems from Western countries (Patriot, Aster, Israeli Arrow/David's Sling).

Turkey pushed Obama to send anti tank missiles. helped local forces, but what you are able to do when you got no air defense missiles? when Saudis and UAE left Turkey and Turkey spend 30 billion$ on just those coming refuges? its all planned against Turkey. when Assad bomb your innocent people every single day? why you are not honest here? same years, it was planned to divide Turkey. those years, nobody were able to fight against IEDs against armored vehicles. Turkey only had 7ton cobras in hand. Turkey first developed a local solution for that(specific radars and armored vehicles), kicked PKK ass in south east Turkey. after that turned to Syria, when it was only a 3 month left to finish it, Russia was invited... isnt it weird?
be honest when you say something... when all went through it.. we know how it all happened step by step..

If Turkey supplied the rebels in 2011-2012 cheap mortars, RPGs, ATGMs rebels would take all Syria with ease and Turkey would get a vassal state. Turkey could dictate Iran and Lebanon conditions and since Hezbollah totally depends on Syria, would boost control in Mediterranean....

But Erdogan hesitated to do anything until 2016, when Assad with help of Iran and Russia destroyed Syrian cities, created 13 million refugees and Syria was devided between Iran, Russia and US. He was forced to send ground troops, make deals with Russians and Iranians and they cheated him each time.

The Syria policy is still after all those years a mistery. People thought Assad was already gone at one point.

There are rumours that the Government didnt want to do the job on its own. Wanted US assistance to go all in. Rumours that Government vs. Military fought hard regarding Syria were also spread.

But my opinion is pretty clear on this, Assad is a dictator and a pretty bad one but still are the rebels we're now supporting better? Did anyone gain anything from the decade of war?

Russia and Iran are in Syria, YPG controlls large parts of Eastern Syria, America is in Syria and we're stuck with Islamist rebels that just can't introduce law and order anywhere.

Arab spring my ass, with the exception of one country (Tunisia) only made the region more volatile.

The FSA had 60% of Syria before Isis backstabbed the FSA and took most of it.

Fsa have themselves to blame for allying themselves with Al nusra and isis.

Not to mention the fsa spent a lot of time fighting amongst themselves.

Rise of isis weakened FSA the most which benefitted Assad, ypg, russia and the usa. Seriously as a Turkish person all I can say May God curse and destroy isis.

They fcked up a lot of our plans the piece of crap takfiri rats. I would say more but I dont want to get banned due to my foul language.

Technically yes. In past half century Israel Syria border is calmest of all.
And practically means, Israel holds the heights with force illegally without any peace contract or armistice?

Maybe the greatest mistake in the republics history was for AK party to join the american/israeli war against Assad without actually having the means to create facts on the ground that favoured Turkey. It was obvious that they didnt want to topple assad since all that happens is Islamic brotherhood takes over and thats worse for the west. So they wanted to drag Turkey into the conflict and let it persist for the next 50 years, while they silently build a pkk/kurdistan aimed directly against Turkey. Turkey should have worked to maintain the status quo regionally for the next 25 years so that when war comes she would be ready.

It allowed the west to promote the PKK as european saviours. It allowed them to show Turkey as the chief financiers of Isis. It forced Turkey on a direct path of confrontation with Russia that has only escalated into other theatres.

It forced the shia crescent to double down in their efforts against Turkey.

It created a fear in the whabbists of the gulf that Turkey or rather the Ottomans were back on the move and united their efforts against Turkey. Something about when the Turks move it gets so much of the world triggered.

It ruined syria opening the doors for the west and russia to all place places in syria supporting enemies all hostile towards the Turkey. The russians supporting the shias against Turkey and the americans/west supporting the communist ypg terrorists against Turkey.

While Turkey has so many threats it allowed everyone else to try and shit on Turkey knowing she had her hands full.

We could go on and on what a failure syria was for Turkey, but there really isnt any point anymore going on about it. Its clear the supporters of AK party are quite happy with all this failure. What matters now is that Turkey is able to fight in every corner possible. If we are not fighting we are losing now. We have to keep fighting, there is no other way now.
Same feelings here! Except your comment in last paragraph where you mention AK party supporters being happy. If you investigate who they really are, you will find that 90% of them are poor and lowly educated (primary school or lower) ignorant group of people who will applaud on anything their leader will say. So they don’t really know what the realities of Turkey are. The other 10% or so, are people who are the beneficiaries of AK party decisions. So they don’t give a sh.t.
When they were in cahoots with Feto&Co, AK party leaders were supporting ISIS. According to then FM; ISIS were a bunch of some youngsters who were angry with the Syrian regime.
They gave us this sick and impossible to cure baby called Syria in our hands. After US and Feto tried to topple the government and endangered the lives and livelihood of AK party leaders the Syrian policy changed 180 degrees. Now our poor soldiers are dying. Unfortunately Turkey is being managed and governed by people who can be easily “deceived”; as they have admitted in the past that they have been deceived. (Feto, Obama etc etc)
So keep fighting!

We're playing a move out of the American war book and can claim legitimacy because the rebels want us to be there.

I know in the end according to international law all but with the exception of Russia and Iranian forces are probably there illegal.

Iranians and Russians commit illegal indiscriminate bombings, sieges and ethnic cleansing.

Feeding and protecting 10 million syrians while various terrorist enemy entities exist within Syria that directly attack Turkey, gives Turkey plenty of legal right to be there. There may be more syrians under Turkish protection now then are currently under Assad controlled regions.
