Exactly this. If we can get it and have enough software code to integrate our missiles then we won't have to buy missiles and armaments for another 2-3 billion usd

Honestly, I haven meant the tech side of it but have meant more as a political move which wouldn‘t put Turkey in a position against US when Europe is turning anti-US and pushing Turkey forward as the “major military power of Europe“!
That might put Turkey in a direct collision line against US in the future.
I see the gesture as an assurance of confidence for US.

If Turkey should come back into the F-35 program and buy F-35 for whatever reason.
Then F-35B and F-35C for the aircraft carriers, for all other purposes it is useless as TAI KAAN replaces the F-35A.

Firstly wasn’t trakya scrapped in favour of mugem secondly for f35C you need a catapult system and I’m not sure if they would sell it to us.
Secondly F35A would make sense for air force especially if we could integrate our own weapons for SEAD missions since the stealth would be better than kaans.
Thirdly Kizilelma on Anadolu would be very difficult and would require some extra equipment for landing I would rather have Anadolu as tb3/ helicopter carrier and mugem as dedicated aircraft carrier with f35B/Kizilelma/anka and maybe 2-4 Tb-3 for sar duties.

F-35 brings unmatched capability. Kaan for example isn't planned to have the same level of sensor fusion F-35 has.

How much do we know about Kaan's sensor fusion and stealth capabilities?

Also, why risk the lives of pilots instead of just use drones for SEAD?

i would have S-400 break down into its leptons if they guaranteed F110s supply. Otherwise we have an expensive scrap metal we refer to as KAAN.

Would be better to sell it to some central Asian country or transfer it to Libya or Syria so they have capable ad.

I can't say I like the idea of getting too cozy with the US and Europe and making a habit of buying military equipment again. The idea of "necessity is the mother of invention" caused the meteoric rise of Turkish defense industry with a speed not seen elsewhere. We have done what we did because we had to. In the times we had the possibility to buy off-the-shelf from abroad, the domestic industry suffered. What starts now as a good supplement purchase to Kaan may in the end cause Kaan to be cancelled with rising costs and/or shifting political environment.

Being friendly enough to get F110 engines is desirable but purchasing too many foreign fighter planes becomes worrying. I kind of support keeping the S400, not because we will get any value out of that crap but to maintain the sense of urgency and necessity in our defense industry that propelled us to achieve so much in so little time. Otherwise we may go back to snorting foreign purchases like cocaine.

There will be a meeting in April. Then we will most likely hear of an agreement. S-400 will be most likely dismantled and stored somewhere with US-Presence.


Selling it is no option for the government as they need the ties to the Russians to be stable and Russia will never agree to have the system be transfered to another country. Maybe Azerbaijan but even there I would expect backlash.

Russia does not want the TurAF to have the F-35.

8-12 F-35B for the Navy (unlikely now maybe in the future could also become an option for MUG)


What else I am interested in is seeing if the 40 F-16V purchase will stand, there are rumours that LM has offered an substantial discount for the aircraft after the EF purchase gained momentum.

S400 alone will not do any difference for Syria. They need a long-term strategy to build up a multi-layered air defence to deal with terrorist aggressions.
