A new electronic attack system has been developed for Bayraktar TB2.

The system was tested in Donbas and stopped 200 military vehicles belonging to Russian separatists at the same time. Vehicles could not be restarted for 10 minutes.

You should've add a sarcasm sign or something before people start speculating on it. The tweet was meant as a joke.

Ukrainian UAV Bayraktar TB2 attacked by unknown electronic warfare in Donbass

The Ukrainian Armed Forces are experiencing problems with the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) Bayraktar. Unknown complexes of electronic warfare (EW) interfere with the control of attack UAVs.

It is reported that the Ukrainian military, after the successful use of Bayraktar in Donbass, is now unable to reconnoiter the situation on the line of contact. The drone operators lose control when Bayraktar flies up to the contact line at a distance of 5-10 kilometers.

Employees of the Avia.pro portal, referring to unnamed sources, report that the work of the Bayraktar UAV is facing a retaliatory attack from unknown electronic warfare agents. Such suppression was recorded in certain sectors of the airspace on the contact line in Donbass. It is noted that the monitoring services for the flights of aircraft also show a picture similar to a targeted fight against Ukrainian drones. The maps show the takeoff of the UAV, its flight to the contact line, and then a sharp turn and return to base. Official information from the Armed Forces of Ukraine or representatives of the DPR and LPR has not yet been received.

Earlier it became known that the Ukrainian UAV Bayraktar was attacked in the DPR.

The articles cites Avia.pro which should be suspicious enough on its own but Avia.pro itself also tries to cites Ukrainian defense forces (which have made no comment that I could find) and flight tracking systems but the stuff I've found suggests that the TB2's are hanging around for a quite considerable amount of time on the line of contact, contrary to their assertion that they take off, fly towards the separatist lines then immediately turn around.

I don't doubt that Russia is trying to use EW systems to knock out the drones but so far it doesn't seem like they have been particularly successful.

EREN happens popular on Ukrainian news

Turkey tests the world's first laser-armed drone

11 December 2021

View attachment 37038

Drone Eren fired from distances of 500, 300 and 100 meters

The Eren drone is designed to destroy explosive devices with laser weapons without involving sappers.

Eren, the world's first laser-armed drone, has been tested in Turkey. The device made successful shots from distances of 500, 300 and 100 meters, Anadolu reported yesterday.

"The Eren drone, developed by the defense companies TÜBİTAK and ASİSGUARD, coordinated by the Forensic Department of the General Directorate of Security, is capable of neutralizing explosive elements at a distance using laser weapons ... The maximum flight altitude of Eren is 3,000 meters," the statement said.

It is indicated that the Eren drone is designed to destroy explosive devices using laser weapons without involving sappers.

Max altitude 3000m, but has only succesfully destroyed target within 100-500m. What will it be hunting with such short range ?

Lasers, even large ones on ships have very limited range, typical 500-1500m. They also need relatively long time (3-10s) exposing the target if the goal is to destroy the target (as opposed to overload/destroy the optical sensor/camera/IIR). They have a very limited actual use.

The reason for the limited range is spreading of the laser (called beam divergence) and ionization of air. These are real hard physical limits that will limit what you can do with lasers. A simple bullet is much more effective than even the biggest laser on ships.

It's not for hunting, it's for remote bomb removal. Say, you've got a minefield and you want it cleared without risking the lives of your engineers.

News from IDEF:

India's DCM Shriram buys 30% stake in Turkish drone maker

DCM Shriram is investing $1 million in Zyrone Dynamics

drone.jpg

DCM Shriram signed a partnership deal with Turkey's Zyrone Dynamics on the sidelines of the International Defense Industries Fair (IDEF) in Istanbul.

DCM Shriram is investing $1 million in Zyrone Dynamics, taking a 30 per cent stake in the company. Murat Kanber, co-founder of Zyrone Dynamics, was quoted by Turkey's Anadolu Agency as saying, "Both sides’ expectation is the creation of products for civilian use, especially for cargo transportation... Now Zyrone will sell its products to India and its neighbors in the Asian market, after which it also hopes to export drones to Europe and Australia."

Speaking on behalf of DCM Shriram, Rudra Shriram said "The partnership is more than just an investment; it is about creating a global UAV company for various applications in civilian and military fields."

Zyrone Dynamics specialises in the manufacture of small rotary-wing drones. Zyrone Dynamics has been promoting small drones that it calls 'variable volume' UAVs.

Going by the website, seems to be an up-and-coming company. Probably wise to invest at this stage itself from an economic perspective.

From the 30% stake, looks like transfers will be happening soon:

According to the report, Zyrone Dynamics, which produces UAV technologies with its advanced technologies, is preparing for the first product delivery to India.

The company will also make demo flights for the defence tenders in India in March 2022, and is making plans to expand to Far East countries via India, the report says.
