AN-178 to replace C-160, AN-70 to beef up medium lift capabilities. Production in Turkey and equipped with Turkish Subsystems.

Ukraine is looking for Buyers/Partners and Turkey is in need of replacing and expanding its Strategic Lifting Capabilities.

Easy deal. Still need to solve heavy lift capabilities though. (C-17)

Ukraine needs a partner to jump start An-178 project.

Biggest issue with An-178 or other aircraft is, it needs to be "westernized", it has to meet modern standards and modern parts, subsystems, any Russian etc. part needs to be replaced. This year Antonov released a "westernized" version of AN-178 with American parts.

Another issue is agreeing on production workshare. Turkey wants to manufacture locally, tech transfer (engines) etc.

Turkey needs a heavy lift aircraft like C-17 much more than AN-178, but such large project with Ukraine would require business relations to develop.

Imagine a new An-124 or equivalent being developed and produced by a joint Ukrainian and Turkish consortium. The sky is the limit if they cooperate in all military fields. They complement each other very well.

I don't think flying at 620mph for 4 hours is all that fun, tbh :)

But, man.. Wouldn't AN-70 be coooler, would be capable of loitering around for 10hrs!

An-70 with Europrop TP400-D6 (a400M) engines and Turkish avionics would be a great addition also 10 turboprop and 10 jet engine version could fill different tasks. An-188 could also be used for AWACS/AEW role or Long Range Maritime Patrol like Poseidon .. But TSK also needs a plane like C17

It is said by various sources that Ukrainian and Russian engines have less lifespan than western counterparts and higher long term cost which removes the initial advantage of being cheaper. On the other hand choosing western engines is risky because of possible embargoes

A400M was a partner project including Turkey

TAI engineers worked on the design, TEI worked on the engine

If A400M gets a sale, Turkey gets share

Ukraine giving us a hard time especially on co-production, its looks like they want to sell us 6-8 aircraft before negotiating anything

There is many issues with Antonov to be solved if such project happens

Project like AN-188 will not happen without relations developing

We cannot just look at the cargo capacity.

We have now airbases abroad, in Libya, Qatar and soon probably also in Somalia.

So range, endurance etc. become important specs

Antonov aircraft production once again mentioned directly by Ukraine's foreign minister.
"We plan to discuss this topic in more depth during our next Quadriga meeting of foreign and defense ministers, which will take place in December 2021 in Ankara."
- So we can expect some sort of announcement in aircraft cooperation in December.

Just to add, the FM emphasises Turkey's interest in Ukraine's firefighting fleet so perhaps one can see joint production or the purchase of An-32 planes.

On top of that, the meeting in February 2022 is expected to result in a free trade agreement between Turkey and Ukraine.

I see all agree on having a heavy lift plane like the C-17 , yet no one even mention the An-124 which is much better

why ?
