They should send their whole army then to get rid of "soviet junk".

Russian army's inventory is still composed in majority of "soviet era junk" (although modernized). Russia's main tank is the T72,main IFV is the BMP2 and their main APC is the BTR80/82A. Same goes with artillery, air defence.....

Their ground platforms programs were so much delayed and became unaffordable to field in great numbers. Remember, they were supposed to field 2300 Armata tanks in 2020....
Both sides still operate Soviet "junk".

But for Ukraine I was a bit worried that their ammunition (especially that of APFSDS type) are no match for the latest Russian design. Probably giving them a bit of headache against newer modernized T-72 with reinforced armor.

They'll never get to a tank vs tank scenario. In 2014 the Ukrainians were devastated by being targeted with accurate artillery fire in selected choke points. This was done by blinding their forces with EW and drones guiding MLRS and classic artillery towards Ukrainian positions. I still remember a Ukrainian column accurately hit with Grads...torn to pieces it was...
Hope they've learned something from that and upgraded their tactics .

Kursk like battle is out of the question, but local tank vs tank fighting will likely occur.

In the run-up towards the implementation of the Minsk II agreement on February 15 (signed on February 12), the Russian hybrid army’s offensive shifted into a higher gear. The fighting for the control of Lohvynovo continued, with Ukrainian units emanating from 24th, 30th and 92th brigades, 1st tank brigade, 79th airborne brigade as well as the Donbas battalion attacking from the north in force. The following tank clash, on February 12, resulted in Russia’s 5th tank brigade losing 8 of their T-72Bs, against 4 Ukrainian T-64BMs “Bulat” tanks.

I wonder why Ukraine recent re-armament and modernization of tanks doesn't include introducing a more effective rounds.

Ukraine bought from US 150 Javelin( FGM-148E version, one of the weapon’s freshest modifications) missiles and 10 launchers which can devastate T-72s. Also the deal includes purchasing more 210 missiles.

Not with the current military hardware they have sent up to the Ukrainian border.. they need to amass a very large force to take ~ 90,000 square miles of land.

Russia has been moving forces even from Kamchatka and Siberia. Russia deployed 12 mechanized brigades, 10 armored brigades, 2 airborne infantry brigades, 1 marine brigade, 28 independent tactical attack battalions, thousands of armored vehicles and tanks, over a thousand artillery pieces, ~300 fighter aircraft and helicopters near the Ukraine border as far as I can follow.

This is more than enough to capture Ukrainian lands east of the Dnepr river.

Showing off or flexing muscles is not the russians' way of war. if they really wanted to invade, it would be very quiet.

In the age of social medias such large movement of troops can't go unnoticed.... If they really wanted to flex muscles or put pressures on Ukraine, they probably wouldn't have to move units from as far as Siberia to the Ukrainian border. They are most likely planning something,we'll see in the next days/weeks.

Presidental Office: İt's worth to expect a new military exacerbation from the Russian Federation

Special structures report to the Office of the President that one should be prepared for an aggravation of the situation.

Deputy Head of the President's Office Igor Zhovkva believes that Ukraine should expect a new military aggravation from Russia. He stated this in an interview with Left Bank, published on Friday, April 9.

"Unfortunately, it is. And this information, let's say, is available to the relevant Ukrainian structures," Zhovkva said in response to a question whether a new aggravation of military confrontation should be expected.

The Office of the President brings information from Ukrainian structures to the attention of Ukrainian partners.

"In particular, since the escalation of the situation near the borders of Ukraine, President Zelensky has already held telephone conversations with US President Joseph Biden, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. With each of these leaders, President Zelensky not only exchanged data, but also received clear and timely signals of support from them, "Zhovkva says.

He also added that work is underway to coordinate Zelensky's conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron.

As a reminder, Dmitry Kozak, the former deputy head of the Russian presidential administration, made a number of harsh statements in which he criticized both Kiev and others involved in the Normandy format.

In particular, he called Kiev's actions in Donbass a PR move to simulate a military threat, and also said that the Russian Federation would be forced to protect "its citizens" in Donbass in the event of an aggravation of the conflict.

At the same time, the Kremlin considers the gathering of troops to the borders of Ukraine to be an internal affair and assures that the Russian Federation is not a threat to Ukraine.

In the Russian Federation announced the forced protection of residents of Donbass

Kremlin issued a tough statement on Donbass

Russia will be forced to defend "its citizens" in Donbass in the event of an escalation of the conflict, the Kremlin says.

Dmitry Kozak, deputy head of the Russian presidential administration, says that the Russian Federation will be forced to defend "its citizens in the Donbass," depending on the scale of the conflict. He announced this on Thursday, April 8.

"Today everything depends on the scale of the fire. If there is, as our president says, Srebrenica, we will probably have to defend ourselves," he said.

According to him, the separatists "are already sufficiently battle-hardened and able to hold off an attack, but everything depends on the other side."

Kozak also said that if Kiev unleashes hostilities in the Donbas, it will be the beginning of the end of Ukraine.

He also commented on the trip of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Donbass.

“I do not think that his trip to Donbass will be associated with an exacerbation. In answer to the first question, I noted that today it is difficult to predict how much these children will play out with matches. It’s hard to just predict how much they will play out. he went, - this is an element of the same game, "- said Kozak.

In addition, he claims that the Russian Federation proposes to negotiate the Donbass, but Kiev is allegedly against.

“Ukraine is afraid to reveal its inconsistency. They are afraid to speak publicly. We offered openness and broadcasting so that everyone could understand what was happening. Let the written documents be open,” he said.

The Kremlin spokesman noted that no one is stopping Kiev from withdrawing from the Minsk agreements. In his opinion, any international law is executed by sovereign states voluntarily.

"Any state has every right to withdraw, to denounce the treaty - this is a generally accepted practice. Nobody interferes. Declare, say that in such and such a part ... denounce. No, and they cannot do this either ... they are committed to the Minsk agreements, but as soon as comes to execution, nothing is executed, "Kozak emphasized.

He also added that if Ukraine continues its policy in this vein, then "it will be impossible to agree on anything."

Also, a Kremlin spokesman criticized the actions of Germany and France in the negotiations on the Donbass.

"We see that Germany and France in the negotiation process take an extremely inconsistent position and have a direct interest in resolving the conflict in the sequence that they declare and adherence to which they declare, I mean, the Minsk agreements - it does not exist," he said ...

Delegation of the US Defense Attaché visited the JFO zone

The foreign delegation got acquainted with the situation at the front and visited the memorial complexes to the fallen soldiers.

The American delegation, led by the Army and Defense Attaché Colonel Brittany Stewart, has visited the area of the Joint Forces Operation in Donbass, the press center of the JFO headquarters reported.

Major General Eduard Moskalev, Deputy Commander of the JFO, briefed the American delegation on the current security policy and the operational situation at the front.

"The US representatives visited the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which carry out tasks on the line of contact with the enemy, talked with the Ukrainian defenders and once again made sure of the presence of the Russian occupation forces in the east of Ukraine," the message says.

Colonel Stewart, speaking with the Ukrainian military, noted that the US government is deeply concerned about the situation that is developing around the borders of Ukraine and in every possible way supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Also, during the visit, the foreign delegation visited the memorials to the fallen soldiers. During the flower-laying ceremony, they honored the heroes who died defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Putin refused to negotiate with Zelensky

Russia refuses Normandy Four summit

The Russian president does not want to participate in the Normandy Four summit, since Merkel and Macron support Zelensky, they say in the presidental Office.

After the beginning of the aggravation of the situation in Donbass, Ukraine requested negotiations between President Vladimir Zelensky and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, but was refused. Igor Zhovkva, Deputy Head of the President's Office, spoke about this in an interview with LB.ua, published on Friday, April 9.

He confirmed that Kiev is now planning a trilateral conversation with Zelensky, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

“As soon as there was an aggravation at the front, we immediately asked for talks with all three representatives of the Normandy Four. The Kremlin refused. Now, I repeat, it is planned to talk with the leaders of Germany and France,” Zhovkva said.

The diplomat notes that at the present time Russia does not want to hold a summit of the Quartet, because it does not like the fact that the leaders of Germany and France openly support Ukraine.

"The question is not about dates. It is one country that does not want this summit. This is Russia. Because when the four leaders sit, everyone hears each other's position. At such summits we are openly supported by the leaders of Germany and France. It is not very pleasant for the President of the Russian Federation. Besides, Russia has nothing to say. Russia has not fulfilled any of the agreements of the Paris summit, except for the organization of the ceasefire. But here, too, we see that it is constantly violated, "Zhovkva said.

However, according to him, now it is impossible to say that the Minsk and Normandy formats are blocked: meetings are being held at the level of the TCG, the advisers to the leaders of the Quartet. But, as noted by Zhovkva, "the impression is created that the Russian Federation is deliberately shifting these negotiations into an unconstructive channel. Probably, it does not need them."

Aggravation in Donbass: the Armed Forces of Ukraine are in control of the situation

The military planned all measures for a quick response to provocations on the Russian-Ukrainian border, said the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian army is ready to quickly respond to the aggravation of the military situation both in the east of Ukraine and along the entire border with Russia. This was stated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Ruslan Khomchak on the air Right to Power.

"The Armed Forces of Ukraine are ready to respond to both the aggravation of the situation in the temporarily occupied territories, Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and along the entire Russian-Ukrainian border. We have planned all appropriate measures to quickly respond to provocations," Khomchak said.

According to him, the situation is under control, despite the fact that there has been an increase in exacerbation recently.

"Since the new year (2021 - ed.), There have been periods of aggravation at the front in eastern Ukraine, characterized by an increase in the number of attacks by snipers of the Russian Federation, provocations, and, unfortunately, losses among the Ukrainian military. In addition, we see a build-up of Russian troops near the state border. However, this does not mean that a circle is being closed around our country, Khomchak stressed.

He stressed that the situation is under control and it is not hopeless.
