Putin will always control the gas pipelines into Europe, like his moves in Georgia. Like with Azerbaijan

@1984isCuredBy1776 There's not much to this story. The three guys were known criminals who beat up someone wearing camouflage (either soldier, or more likely territorial defense/volunteer) at a gas station. I can post the video as well as the three guys apologizing later on but there really isn't much to this story. Regarding the tweet; I didn't hear Azov mentioned once and the city hasn't been called Dnipropetrovsk for several years, its called Dnipro- the account is def a Russian troll.

That whole security council should be removed. The idea that the world is held hostage to it is criminal.

In Taking Crimea, Putin Gains a Sea of Fuel Reserves

When Russia seized Crimea in March, it acquired not just the Crimean landmass but also a maritime zone more than three times its size with the rights to underwater resources potentially worth trillions of dollars.
Russia portrayed the takeover as reclamation of its rightful territory, drawing no attention to the oil and gas rush that had recently been heating up in the Black Sea. But the move also extended Russia’s maritime boundaries, quietly giving Russia dominion over vast oil and gas reserves while dealing a crippling blow to Ukraine’s hopes for energy independence.

Alexandra Odynova contributed reporting from Moscow.
A version of this article appears in print on May 18, 2014, Section A, Page 1 of the New York edition with the headline: In Taking Crimea, Putin Gains a Sea of Fuel Reserves. Order Reprints | Today’s Paper | Subscribe

One of the main reasons for the Crimean annexation is over the oil and gas. Putin does not want Ukraine to become a net gas exporter. Which another article predicted would have happened by 2020. Ukraine herself would have supplied Europe with much needed natural gas.

The other is Putin's goal of the return of the Russian Empire borders. Putin is beginning with natural resources rich areas to steal.

Putin is interested in annexing AZE.

Mariupol is 95% under the control of the Russian Army and Allied forces. The point in the battle for the city will be set at the Azovstal plant, the ring around it has shrunk. Russia will gain full military control over Mariupol in the coming days. Heavy artillery has already started firing direct fire, an ACS 2C3 "Acacia" with a 152-mm caliber firing direct fire was seen on the streets. The mass surrender of Ukrainian army soldiers began in Mariupol.

Footage of the shooting of the Russian Tor-M2 SAM at a Ukrainian UAV has been published. According to the calculation of the SAM, during the special operation in Ukraine, they fired 20 missiles, hit 11 targets, among them seven Bayraktar TB2 Turkish-made UAVs. "Tor-M2" is a representative of a new generation of short-range air defense systems.

The mass surrender of Ukrainian army soldiers began. On April 5, at night, 267 Ukrainian soldiers from the 503rd battalion of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade of the Naval Forces of Ukraine surrendered in Mariupol near the village of Sartana.

Putin ass-lickers are adamant to show that Ukraine debacle as a victory!

"Look! we lost thousands of soldiers, thousands of valuable equipment, the world saw how we suck at everything, retreated from Kyiv and other cities we claimed we take them in a few hours, and that's after more than a month of humiliation, but hey! We control the minerals in Ukraine! Yippeee!"

And the simple-minded buy that of course. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

?

Russia’s hydrocarbon exports generate a substantial amount of revenue for the state, accounting for more than 50% of the consolidated government budget, clearly to Putin this is more valuable and of a greater degree of importance to him. It's over $50 billion dollars a year. The losses so far aren't comparable to this. Taking Ukrainian gas fields secures this, means Ukraine will never be energy independent.

Ukraine exporting gas would have cut into that budget btw, they had a lot of gas.

Without western tanks, aircraft and AA Ukraine doesn't have much of chance of reclaiming it imo.

Your opinion has been wrong since the start of the war. It is worth nothing.
