Maybe noob question here, but what's so special about Marder anyway ? It's old late 60s design, it doesn't have many fancy gadgets modern ifv have.

It seems that the Ukrainians really want these Marders really bad, even after getting rejected again ad again by Olaf Scholz

Simply the largest amounts of a reliable enough platform nearby to the war theatre. Ukraine and allies have to keep doing their best to get Germany to commit a significant % of these now....it is best to fight this war here and now rather than somewhere else later.

This country is deep rooted internally, instead of promoted internal Reform and increasing the living standard of average Russian, started with battle against corruption and colution, taking back oligarch power, giving energy subsidy for the masses, promoting food and health manufacturing industry as their country had tremendous capital leftover from Soviet legacy, battling criminal ring accross the country, confiscated weaponry from ilegal Forces (like Kadirov thugs) , battling drug dealer, using oil dividen for building infrastructure, promoting manufacturing industry accross the board like electronic, and so on.

but alas they keep the oligarch lead the power and left the country living under grand imperialist grandeur illusion. They are using the oil Funds to promoting military (but with most of the Funds being corrupted by the people in power), threatened their neighbor, grabbing their lands, killing dissident and other bad stuff the country should not do so. And now they are wondering how their former vassals countries left them one by one and choose European Union or NATO to protect themselves

AFAIK, generally all these countries are saying "need to resolve NATO internal commitment first" to pass the buck there etc...while they are more flexible in provision of immediate tactical weaponry etc.

So it didn't matter which country UKR approached first for NATO (retired IFV, tank etc) continental vehicular reserves...might as well be Germany since that seems to be the largest domino (of resistance versus potential quick support) in that chain for UKR to try push on....to become more like the level+determination of UK support etc.

Looking from their equipment and personal protection gears, those militia heading toward battlefield with rubber vest (that's not kevlar vest!!) and not only that many doesn't wearing rig vest or ammo pouch vest at all , not many seen bringing helmet and only handfull of them using them, what i know even Boko haram Rebel seems more better equipped than them

A 78-year-old writer Yevgeny Bal died near #Mariupol after three days of torture by the #Russian military.

Russian servicemen released Bal on March 21 with the words "we do not fight with veterans of the #Soviet Navy."

But the man could not come to his senses (recover) after the abuse.

Additional reporting indicates that Bal suffered a fatal heart attack a week and a half after being released.

It reminded me of stories of Nazi thugs beating up jewish ww1 veterans. I forget which were documented, and which were anecdotal....it was all so long ago I read them deeply.

One produced his WW1 iron cross in one account, and the Nazi thugs left him alone after having severely beaten him in front of family already.

That's utterly horrible beyond sane mind can expect from a second strongest power on earth (though in my mind China already claimed those place since years ago). Any ammunition storage dump on the open during conflict should be prepared and arranged carefully even under distress...but alas we all know Russian is not related at all with words of discipline and SOP
