It also seems Ukrainians have been pushing back Russian attacks in donbass.

for example: the Korean War was thought of as a stalemate--yes
but the UN got their mission accomplished = NK out of the South
China got what they wanted = UN off their border and away from the hydro-electric plants
NK = loss
here's another thing: Israel was in a ''winning'' position in the Yom Kippur War--but Sadat got what he wanted--talks on the Sinai being returned
so, usually no clear winners, but some political gains made
