Major-General Makarov worked at "Center E" where he hunted opposition and journalists who criticized putin's regime, many of whom were assassinated.
Makarov, former deputy chief of the Interior Ministry's Main Directorate for Countering Extremism was found dead with a gunshot to the head.
Kremlin reports it was 'suicide.'
Are we surprised!? Not at all

Day by day it is becoming crazier than Hollywood movies.

"Western intelligence shows Russia is amassing aircraft close to the border with Ukraine, an indication that Moscow is preparing to throw its jets and helicopters into the war to support a stuttering land offensive.

The fear of a looming air war in Ukraine has prompted allies to prioritise rapid shipments of air defence assets and artillery ammunition to Kyiv, western officials said, to respond to the shift in approach by Moscow as the almost year-long war enters a new phase.

Intelligence shared among Nato allies shows Russia is amassing fixed-wing and rotary aircraft close to the border with Ukraine, according to two officials briefed on its contents.

In meetings with allied countries supporting Ukraine on Tuesday, US defence secretary Lloyd Austin highlighted the threat of Russia’s significant remaining air force.

“He was very clear that we have a short window of time to help the Ukrainians to prepare for an offensive and that they had some pretty specific needs,” a senior US administration official said.

“The Russian land forces are pretty depleted so it’s the best indication that they will turn this into an air fight. If the Ukrainians are going to survive . . . they need to have as many air defence capabilities and as much ammunition . . . as possible,” the official added.

In a news conference later on Tuesday, Austin said the US did not see imminent signs of a “massive aerial attack”, but that Washington and its allies are rushing as much air defence capability to the country as they can.

“We do know Russia has substantial aircraft . . . and a lot of capability left,” Austin said. Ukraine’s current air defences were “not enough and we’re going to keep pushing until we get more because that threat is out there”, he said. “We want to make sure they have the ability to protect themselves in the event Russia decides to introduce its air force into the fight.”

Since the first weeks of the war, following president Vladimir Putin’s full-scale invasion on February 24 last year, Russia has used its sizeable air forces sparingly, relying instead on long-range missiles, artillery and land-based troops.

Western analysts had speculated that this could have been because of a fear in Moscow that Ukraine’s air defence systems posed a threat to Russian aircraft, or because its fleet was in poor condition.

But intelligence assessments indicate that Russia’s air force is “actually quite preserved”, a senior Nato diplomat said.

“More than 80 per cent probably is safe and available . . . So we are expecting that they’re preparing to launch an air campaign and they’ve been trying to [disable] Ukrainian air defences with attacks,” the diplomat said.

The warning comes as some 54 western allies used a meeting at Nato’s headquarters on Tuesday to lay out additional pledges of military equipment for Ukraine. The US is expected to announce another assistance package later this week, which will mostly include air defence and ammunition, said people familiar with the matter.

Ukrainian and Nato officials have in recent days warned of ammunition shortages, with western capitals growing concerned at the effect of strained defence supply chains and dwindling domestic stockpiles.

These immediate needs trumped longer-term requests for materiel such as fighter jets or quicker shipments of western battle tanks, officials said, given Russia’s new offensive, which Nato said on Monday had already begun.

“What Ukraine tells us that they really need is ammunition and additional air defence capabilities,” a western official said.

But wait, Zelensky is pro-Western, he can kill. The media hide it or make it seem innocent.

Putin ATTACKED another country, Zelenski is defending that country. That is clear difference. Putin is a criminal, he need to go to war tribunal in Haga (but russians kill him before that) and Zelenski will be a hero of a Ukraine.

I wonder if that info about Kurds could be true

Russia involved 97% of the army against Ukraine - Wallace

The Russian army suffers huge losses on the territory of Ukraine

Potentially, the combat effectiveness of the Russian army has been reduced by 40%. Nearly two-thirds of Russian tanks have been destroyed or broken, the British minister said.

The aggressor country Russia involved up to 97% of its army in the war against Ukraine. This figure was announced by British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace, BBC reports on Wednesday, February 15.

According to him, the state in which the Russian army is now has a direct impact on the security of Europe.

"If 97% of the Russian army is now involved in the war against Ukraine, with a very, very high "retirement" rate, and potentially its combat capability is reduced by 40%, and almost two-thirds of their tanks are destroyed or broken, this has a direct impact on the security of Europe" , Wallace said.

The minister stressed that the Russian army is trying to move forward at the expense of human waves, and "the level of attrition is almost like in the First World War, and success rates are measured in meters, not kilometers."

Ben Wallace believes that the current Russian leaders either have a "gap in reality" or they "do not respect the lives of their people."

Recall that since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Russian troops have lost almost 140 thousand killed. In just one day on February 14, almost 700 occupiers were eliminated.

Kremlin prepares for long-term war, but Russian elites no longer believe in victory - Reuters

Further prolongation of the war will result in heavy losses for both sides without the possibility for the victory of the Russian Federation.

For the air war, until Ukraine is sufficiently re-equipped with Western jets + AWACS. The Russians will have air superiority through much of the country. The air war is not gonna be won by mere bravery or guts. In the air technology plays a greater role than in the ground.

Even with F-16s, it'll be hard for Ukraine to go against Su-35s and Mig-31s lobbing LRAAAM like the R-37. and even more so if those assets are reinforced with AWACS.

Building an air force is very complex thing. It requires huge infrastructures invesrtments, training, planning, experience. Ironically even Russia after investing hundreds of billions of dollars failed to build a modern air force. Russian air force failed to surpass the Ukrainian air defence so after the initial big losses they switched to launching standoff rockets from safe distance.

Britain will not transfer fighter jets to Ukraine even in the coming years - Wallace

1676488029298.png

13:07, 15.02.23

Until now, London has made ambiguous comments regarding the transfer of aircraft to Ukraine

The country cannot send to Ukraine during the war all the necessary specialists to deploy this equipment.

British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace emphasized the "long term" delivery of combat aircraft to Ukraine, he said in an interview with BBC Radio 4.

Now the country is focused on training Ukrainian pilots, and there is no talk of deliveries of fighter jets even in the coming years.

"In terms of fighters, I don't think we'll be transferring those fighters in the coming months or even years," Wallace said.

He added that flying would take a long time: "You just can't learn to fly in a week or two."

Wallace compared the transfer of the aircraft to a Formula One team, as preparations for the deployment of equipment involve the involvement of "hundreds of engineers and pilots." "And we are not going to send 200 RAF troops to Ukraine during the war," the British minister said.

Lloyd Austin, US Secretary of Defence, has said after the Rammstein meeting in Brussels that he had no news regarding the supply of fighter jets to Ukraine.
Source: European Pravda
Quote: "[As for the fighter jets], I don't have any announcement to make today," Austin said.

Details: Austin emphasised that allies will continue to work with Ukraine to solve its most urgent needs, and reminded that Ukraine is preparing for a counteroffensive in the spring.

According to Austin, cooperation with Ukraine currently focuses on teaching the Ukrainian military to use new systems and deliver them to the battlefield.

Austin also added that the US does not see Russia stockpiling its aircraft in preparation for a potential larger air strike.

Background: Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary General, said that the Alliance is discussing the provision of Western-style fighter jets to Ukraine, and that the speed with which such assistance can be provided is important in this regard.

Dutch Defence Minister Kajsa Ollongren has said that the country prefers a closed discussion on whether to transfer F-16 fighter jets to Kyiv.
