Germany has upped its commitment of IRIS-T air defense systems for Ukraine. They will now send the Ukrainians 24 systems between 2024 and 2026. 12 Medium range IRIS-T SLM and 12 short range IRIS-T SLS systems have been ordered.

4 more systems will arrive in Ukraine by the conclusion of 2024, giving Ukraine 11 systems in total. The remaining 13 systems will arrive throughout 2025 and 2026.

I think every newly introduced equipment has been most effective in the first weeks or months of their use. Same goes with Bayraktar UAVs as well. They were pretty performant at the firsrt weeks of the invasion, then slowly degraded due to the Russian counter measures. This is also the case for HIMARS. They were a big hit and changed the fornt line balance. However, after Russians take precautions against them, they are not as effective any more.

One way or another Russia will persevere. It simply is too big to fail. Russia will pay a heavy price but in the end, Russia will get what it wants. Ukraine is evacuating Pokrovsk and Kramatorsk. The tempo and frequency of Russian missile, aviation, and UAV strikes are increasing. Russian artillery also doesn't count its punches. Unless this firepower superiority is addressed there is no way for Ukraine to get what it wants.

Footage of Russian missile strikes on September 4 in the area of the Lviv railway station in Ukraine. Presumably, 5 X-101 cruise missiles and Geranium drones were used in the strike. Strikes were also carried out on other objects in the city. Presumably, there were trains with military equipment and machinery at the station, but there is currently no footage from the station. U.S. Tells Allies Iran Has Sent Ballistic Missiles to Russia​

Iran has sent short-range ballistic missiles to Russia, a move that will give Moscow another potent military tool to use in the war against Ukraine and follows stern Western warnings not to provide those arms to Moscow, according to U.S. and European officials.

Previously it was reported to be fatteh-360 (120km) and Ababeel (86km) GMLRS. Russia is supposed to receive hundreds of these. IMO good systems. Remains to be seen how it performs in combat.

JASSM is coming. The Americans have already leaked / telegraphed it through the media, just like they did with HIMARS, F-16s, ATACMS and a variety of other weapon systems and platforms. Expect to see them announced in a package fairly soon (fall timeline)... I expect the initial quantity sent to be in the "dozens" range. Possibly 50-60 units to start, with more to follow as USA ramps up JASSM production to 650 units per year and replaces their older units with new JASSM-ER variants.

PrSMs are not going to be sent anytime soon. It's a brand new weapon and USA doesn't want to give the Russians and Chinese any unnecessary operational Intel on it. Instead, as more and more flow into the U.S. inventory throughout 2024 and 2025, it will free up additional ATCAMS units to send to Ukraine. That's the best ballistic missile they can hope to get from the Americans.

The stupidity of Western leaders when it comes to fighting a war is just striking. Why do you need to announce the delivery of such a weapon weeks/months in advance, so that the enemy can prepare to defend against it, or to move away potential targets?

The JASSMs should have been delivered last month, and their delivery should have been confirmed only after prolonged use in combat, when there would be no doubt that they were already there. The element of surprise is extremely important in war, but Western leaders seem to be obsessed with telegraphing every move long in advance, so that Russia knows about it and Putin doesn’t complain.

They are more concerned about not upsetting Putin than about helping Ukraine use the equipment to its maximum capability.

Germany has committed to sending Ukraine an additional 12 Panzerhaubitze 2000 155mm, self-propelled howitzers. 6 units will arrive in Ukraine prior to the end of 2024 and an additional 6 units will arrive in the first half of 2025.

Additionally, an undisclosed European country has ordered "hundreds" of L52 barrels for the howitzers, as a supplement to the barrels that Germany has already sent. Those barrels continue to arrive as they are produced.

Despite some early challenges with the dusty summer conditions in Ukraine, the Panzerhaubitze 2000 has become one of Ukraine's best artillery pieces. Ukraine has received 46 units from Germany , Italy and The Netherlands . Video evidence has shown 1 unit to have been damaged by a Lancet drone strike to this point, leaving as many as 45 in the fight.

Sweden announced a new $444 million package:

• funds to support Ukrainian drones

"At the moment, transferring JAS Gripen to Ukraine is not a viable option, as it would interfere with the prioritized introduction of F-16 fighters. However, in parallel the Swedish Government is continuing its efforts to establish conditions for a possible future support of JAS 39 Gripen fighters to Ukraine. Support package 17 does so by acquiring materiel parts for the JAS 39 Gripen worth approximately SEK 2.3 billion.

Materiel parts are JAS 39C/D parts that are being reused in the construction of new JAS 39E aircraft. By acquiring new materiel parts, a number of JAS 39C/D will be saved from being dismantled and can – if the Swedish government decides so – be considered for a possible future donation to Ukraine."

Total value: $444 million

Sweden has now provided $4.64 billion in military support to Ukraine, with $2.41 billion in 2024.
