" if 20 years of laborious training and equipping of the Afghan security forces had this little impact on their ability to fight, then another 50 years wouldn’t change anything,"

I wanna say a few things on this statement. Blaming everything on Afghan security forces is the cheap way to avoid responsibility.

Both Taliban and those trained by US are Afghan nationals. We saw how Taliban mow down government forces. So, it basically means that Taliban is much more better than US in terms of training Afghan combat force.

Bro, Talibans might only have AKs, flip flops and Turbans but they have an ideology and a fanatical belief in their goals for which they are ready to make sacrifices to achieve them. Also they had the backing of the majority of people.

American backed Government forces were nothing else than a bunch of mercenaries who were serving only for the 300$ monthly salary. You can't train imbeciles, heroin junkies and child rapists and turn them into a fighting force. The Pentagon spent 90 billion on training and supplying the Afghan forces yet they all ran away like rats.

Of course. It's not a new cause for most of the world.
Very true. Burqas, Sati, killing of unborn girls are curse or were of the most of developing world and needed/needs European intervention.

True.

I read the Afghan papers, and it tells stories where Afghan police recruits joined the police force only to sell his uniform and boots after graduating and then re-enlist and kept doing the same thing without ever being caught.

You about described the ANA and their defeat better than a 100 page academic thesis would.

And i say, even if that's all true. It's still American's fault as their trainers. They could have selected capable men as their commanders. You can create a capable fighting force from anyone. As i seen in the Turkish military.

Not that i'm saying it was the duty of Americans. Afghans should decide their fate not foreign powers. If they want to live in the middle-ages with backward fanatics in the power.... so, be it.
