Circassians are known to hate Turks they would try to deny any kind of Turkic influence in their culture.

Circassians only came good with horses due to the Turks who came to the Caucasus.

Both influenced each other pretty much but Circassians love to deny kind of Turkic influence in the region.

I find it pathetic.

One of them is half Bulgarian half Circassian and he knows about the possible connection between the two nations through the turkic bulgars specially the Circassian goat head and the Bulgarian mask festival.

Mask tradition is pagan in origin interesting how this tradition is still present in a lot of countries where Islam or Christianity is present.

Ottoman/Turkish stormtrooper collection.

Ottoman Turkish Stormtroops fought in Ww1 but also in the Turkish independance war.

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk led the Yildirim army aka Ottoman Stormtroops in its last days. Ataturk still retained the concept of assault war and stormtroops which he used to great effect in the Turkish independance war.

Timur's invasion of India pitted him against the Delhi Sultanate.

I hear some Turks rejecting Camels as part of our history.

Remember this camels have served our people for centuries from both the Central Asian Camels and the Middle Eastern ones.

Camels deserve respect just like horses. Both animals served our ancestors. They provided us milk, food, transport also carried our stuff.

I really love the Central Asian camels. Im so happy to see Yoruk Turks still using them they treat them like family.

I think the mamluks were the only Muslim dynasty which wrote down their training tactics in a book beside the Serbian guy who served in the janissary and wrote a book about their life and training.

I just found this fascinating thread, I hope you guys keep updating to it.....very nice read.

You are correct there are curved swords found inside India that predated Islamic influence but these were different to talwar and shamshir which come via persian+islamic influence.

What I think @dani92 might have been referring to is lot of sword/steel technology did come from India to rest of world (like middle east) w.r.t things like Damascus steel (which was originally made in South India under "Wootz" terminology).

Lot of traditional Indian swords were also of the straight blade variety.

Here is good infographic (2nd one has the older curved designs, though these examples are dated to more recent era)....there are talwar and shamshir examples too for reference.

I am following this in another context altogether. There is reason to believe that an Indian weapons industry was one of those eliminated by the British in their 190 years of increasing influence and increasing extraction of wealth.

Ottoman Afrika Korps.

Less known is the Ottoman expeditions and influence in the Horn of Africa and East Africa.

Ottomans took Eritrea and Djibouti even parts of Somalia while also going deep into the Ethiopian Highlands.

One of the most underrated parts of Ottoman history not to mention the Ottomans even battled the Portuguese.

The Turks in Africa is not a new story.

Ottomans had no problem emphasising their Mongol heritage or origins. Ottomans are Oghuz Turks but had no problem empahsising their Tatar and Mongol origins too.

While people love using the Mongol word as a slur against the Turks. While many see it as a badge of honour.

The post is about how the Turks were emphasised to come from Arabs the Ottoman ambassdor to Paris shot down that argument and we are more related to Tatars and Mongols while Arabs share more with Jews.

For the time it actually makes sense the Turks and Arabs may share the religion also share culture but are different many other areas from language, customs and values. Arabs and Jews are Semitic while Turks are a Turkic People and share lots of common things with Mongols. Tatars can be considered as Turco-Mongols despite being part of the Turkic family.

Interesting especially before the advent of modern day nationalism.

You can take the altaic out of the steppe, but you cant take the steppe out of the altaic.
