In late 2016, scientists aboard the U.K. research ship James Cook arrived 500 kilometers off the coast of northwest Africa, seeking two treasures joined by a curse.
Another untold yet important reason underlying this decision is the open race between Spain and Morocco to control seabed mineral resources, especially the precious Tropic Seamount. This seamount is 1,000 meters Below sea level, south of the Canary Islands and off the coast of the southern provinces of the Moroccan Kingdom. It has been discovered by a joint Spanish scientific mission in the past decade.
It is a strategic target for both Rabat and Madrid due to its mineral wealth. Results of a study conducted by the British-Spanish mission in 2016 concluded that the seamount may contain enough cobalt to make batteries for 277 million electric cars, as well as a large amount of tellurium, which is an element used in solar panels.
He has calculated that the 2,670 tonnes of tellurium on this single seamount represents one-twelfth of the world's total supply.
Dr Bram Murton, the leader of the expedition, has come up with a hypothetical estimate that if the entire deposit could be extracted and used to make solar panels, it could meet 65% of the UK's electricity demand.

Seems like a diplomatic victory for morocco. After Morocco cut all their contact with the germans, and when the germans undermined the moroccan territorial integrity. Today Germany came out with a new statement with a new stance on moroccan sahara.

While Iran denied Morocco’s accusations, the Moroccan government said it had documents and satellite images proving that the Iranian proxy had been providing the Polisario Front with military training and support. Egypt Says it Does Not Recognize Polisario
Egypt does not establish any relationship with the Polisario Front and does not wish to see its position interpreted or questioned, the Egyptian diplomat said, stressing his country’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity. The Algerian regime feared further diplomatic isolation as the League’s adoption of an undivided Moroccan map suggested a pro-Morocco position on the Western Sahara question.
Wow! This is actually shocking news that egypt have finally made a statement supporting the moroccan sahara! For several decades egypt have supported algeria, and the polisario millitia in the moroccan sahara. Egypt have even been at war against morocco in sahara when they helped algeria during the sandwar in 1963. Moroccco and egypt have always been rivals in north africa, and they have different views in libya, and syria for instance.

With the mediation of Morocco, Israel promotes the uninterrupted opening of the Allenby border crossing to Jordan
Israel’s Transportation Ministry says it is working with Moroccan mediators to open the Allenby Bridge crossing between the West Bank and Jordan 24 hours a day seven days a week. This extremely popular crossing point for Palestinians, located in the Jordan Valley, is nearly 50 km west of Amman.The statement says the moves will be implemented as soon as logistical arrangements, including recruiting more staff, are completed.

The visit is the first of its kind for a high-ranking Moroccan official since Algeria's unilateral decision to sever its relations with Morocco in 2021. Algeria closed also its airspace for Moroccan civil/Military aircraft, but still, the Moroccan foreign minister landed in Algiers.

Turkiye’s Ambassador to Morocco Omer Faruk Dogan conveyed his country’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, describing the Western Sahara dispute as “purely artificial.”
Dogan made his remarks during a recent interview, emphasizing the importance of diplomatic ties between Morocco and Turkiye.
“We are two brotherly countries, allies and strategic partners. Relations between Morocco and Turkey are very deep and rooted in history, dating back to the 16th century,” the diplomat said.
Commenting on his country’s position on Western Sahara, Dogan explained that the dispute is a concern for Turkiye.
“Because, in Turkey, we have a similar problem, and if there is anyone who really understands the feeling of the Moroccan authorities and people, it can only be the people and the Turkish authorities,” the ambassador said, commending Morocco’s development projects in its southern provinces.
This is a purely artificial conflict that benefits third parties whose objective is to hinder the development of the region,” he said.
Dogan also gave his opinion on the ongoing diplomatic feud between Morocco and Algeria, saying that his country is “ready to help in the process of rapprochement” between the two countries.
