Biggest problem with US is its support to YPG: Defense minister

ANKARA

Biggest problem with US is its support to YPG: Defense minister

The biggest problem between Turkey and the United States is the latter’s support to the YPG in northern Syria, Turkey’s defense minister has said, expressing his hope that the matter between the two allies can be resolved through dialogue.

“The biggest problem with the U.S. is the YPG. But the problems between Turkey and the U.S. can be resolved through dialogue,” Defense Minister Hulusi Akar was quoted as saying by daily Milliyet over the weekend.

The YPG is no different than the PKK, a designated terror organization by the U.S., the European Union and Turkey, Akar said, underlining that this fact is also well-known by Washington.

“They have to do whatever is necessary for the good sake of friendship and alliance. We expect our allies to understand this as soon as possible and to cut aid and support, especially arms and ammunition,” he stated.

Turkey and the U.S. have long been at odds because Washington’s continued partnership with the YPG in the fight against ISIL in northern Syria. The U.S. says it partners with the SDF, whose main component is the YPG, and stresses it is only an anti-terror tactical move.

With fears of the YPG creating a terror corridor on its southern borders, Turkey executed four cross-border operations into northern Syria over the recent years and announced that it will continue to protect its borders and citizens against the terrorists.

“Our stance on the PKK/YPG is clear. Wherever the terrorist, that’s our target. And this will continue until the last terrorist is neutralized,” the defense minister said, vowing everyone –even the supporters of these terror organizations, will see that in the future.

Talks on F-35s will happen soon

Other issues on the table with the U.S. are more about the cooperation and problems concerning the defense industry, including Turkey’s plans of supplying 40 F-16s from the U.S. as well as its expelling from the F-35 joint project due to its deployment of Russian S-400 air defense systems.

Talks over Turkey’s formal appeal for buying 40 new jet fighters and 80 modernization kits for its existing fleets are developing in a positive manner, Akar informed, stressing, “This will also contribute to NATO’s [security]. If Turkey is strong, NATO will be strong too. Turkey’s strength is the added value of NATO’s strength. We ask our NATO partners what will happen if you prevent Turkey’s power through direct or indirect embargoes.”

Talks over Turkey’s departure from the F-35 program are happening on another avenue, the minister said, and that the second meeting will take place in either late January or early February in the U.S.

“Six F-35s produced for Turkey are being kept in hangars. We are also discussing them,” he informed. Turkey says it paid $1.4 billion to the F-35 joint fighter program and asks to be reimbursed either in cash or through the sale of new F-16s.

Turkey seeks no tension with Greece

Responding to questions about strained ties with Greece, Akar reiterated that Turkey hopes to resolve all the differences with the neighboring country through dialogue and cooperation.

Recalling that Greece has recently deployed six Rafale fighter jets from France, the minister stated “They think they gain something by buying six used planes. The weapons they bought are too much for normal defense, too little for Turkey.”

Turkey has no maximalist aspirations and has no eye on any country’s territories, but some Greek politicians, academics and retired diplomats and soldiers continue to provoke the Greek people against Turkey, the minister noted.

“Now, they talk about [expanding the territorial waters to] 12 miles. Can that be accepted? Parliament, in 1995, had authorized the government to take all the measures, including the military means. We don’t want escalation. What we say is ‘Let’s altogether benefit from the richness of the sea’,” Akar stated.

Turkey will never abandon its right and not allow any country to breach them, the minister repeated.

dialogue won't solve anything, to the contrary as long as they think Turkey will only talk they will support the YPG/PKK harder. communist kurdistan is about the balkanisation of the region making it easier for americans, europeans, russians generally people of white Christian extraction to dominate. The biggest zionists supporters are right wing Christians in the USA/UK and they believe that they must destroy the entire middle east to protect Isreal.

If we keep talking we keep losing. If we cannot fight now, we have to work towards a time where we can fight.

Guys we have a big problem. 2k isis prisoners have either escaped or fled while ypg are calling their "operations" successful.

Seriously Turkish armed forces should clean out every terrorist rat. Seriously 2k or so is bad dont be surprised if these isis rats start attacking lands under Turkish control or trying to get into Turkiye.

This prison attack was a pretty hardcore attack.

I am not trying to convice anyone. These are your words.
Turkey appears to have a double standard when it comes to terrorism.
I remember back to 2015, when Turkey accused BBC of supporting terrorists after airing a report on why Kurdish and Yazidi women join PKK to fight ISIS. Were just people that tried to escape from the "Daesh militants",or as the world called them,""Daesh "jihadists terrorists".
At the same time, Turkey is supporting other countries’ designated terrorist groups: Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, ETIM/TIP, Al Nusra, and other Al Qaeda affiliates that are listed by China, Russia, USA, EU, Israel, Egypt and other Arab Gulf states, among others.
The drawing that you posted and mocked, is what the world thinks about Erdogan's policy.

Greece has long-term good relationships with the Arab world, which started to develop in the early 1980s when jihadist terrorism started. Greece was and is not a major player in the so called ‘War on Terror’, because is not make enemies as other do. We are not invade in other states, or generate conflict and finally we do not intervene to change regimes. It is a policy that is respected by allies (Turkey is not ally) and in the field has seemed right.

We dont disinguish between pkk and isis to us they are all terrorists. Also taliban and al qaeda also fight isis you think these guys are also good by your logic since pkk/ypg fight isis does not really make them good guys. Ahh yea greece the ones that supports terrorists like pkk, feto and other leftist terrorists not to mention asala. You guys gave pkk weapons even gave the ocalan the terrorist a passport.

Funny how you havent been banned not just for insulting Turks in their own forum but also supporting the pkk.

The mods are not doing their job.

Greece also supported the Serbs and their terrorism in the yugoslav wars.

Not to mention did not take part in the Nato campaigns against Serbia.

Greece is even more useless to nato. What have you guys done apart from screaming "we are the best pilots in nato".

Who won from Isis coming into existence?

Russia, America, Iran, Isreal, Assad, PKK/YPG.

Who lost from Isis coming into existence?

Sunni muslims, Islam and Turkey.

Isis destroyed any unity within the rebel factions, to make matters worse it was the perfect tool to internationally demonise Islam, delegitimise the rebels while promoting all her so called enemies like the pkk, assad and iranian terrorists entities.

So logic dictates that whoever created Isis would have come from either or several of the nations who benefited from her creation.

Those nations that benefited from Isis were America, Russia, Iran, Assad and the PKK. Like they say in crime investigations "who stands to benefit?"

It also became the perfect tool of "black propaganda" to slander Turkey. Turkey only lost from Isis, but many other nations won from Isis.

Why Turkey until 2016 never launch any counterterror operations to disrupt ISIS’s networks or recruitment activities ?
Why ISIS told (e.g.Washington Post) that the most of the fighters who joined ISIS at the beginning of the war came via Turkey, as did theirs equipment and supplies.”?

What has changed since 2016?
Three major events, ISIS attacks to Turkish soil, especially the attack in May that year on Gaziantep province’s police headquarters, Russia's military support for Assad and, of course, American and French assistance to SDF coalition. The latter was a threat for the Turkey, because the ghost of establishing an autonomous Kurdish state on its borders would be terrifying to her.

"Why Turkey until 2016 never launch any counterterror operations to disrupt ISIS’s networks or recruitment activities ?"
Same question could be said about why not against YPG/PKK, since operation against both started at the same time.

"Why ISIS told (e.g.Washington Post) that the most of the fighters who joined ISIS at the beginning of the war came via Turkey, as did theirs equipment and supplies.?"
What ISIS is telling doesn't matter why did most European coutries "allowed" Jihadists who btw. were on the watchlists leaving the country? Turkey has around 40 million tourists every year, some landed directly in Turkey some came over other countries/flight routes, how should we know who a Jihadist is and who not as if Europeans shared any Intel.

Most ISIS fighters btw. are local Arabs from Syria, Iraq and Kurds then the foreigners make up the rest...

If you start with that kind of with accusation let me show you something...
"It has been established that European citizens holding travel documents issued by EU Member States have in the past travelled through Greece to reach the Middle East (Syria) in order to fight alongside the so-called Islamic State or ISIS forces. In 2015, it was discovered that at least 5 000 jihadists with European passports had followed this route to the war zone..."

What grek tolding is true but not only Turkey but whole west NATO imperialism supported jihadis (ISIS) at first to go to syria and fight destroy Assad because assad is Russian allies and dobt do what washington say .
I remember in albanian news every faxking hour speaking hoe asssd killls babies and freedom fighter should kill assad . CIA in every mosque recruts jihadis and send them to syrian border with support of Turkey and others .
After Russia destroying Isis and protecting Assad , USA knew that the game is over and Freedom fighters became terrorist and arrests them everywhere .
Faxking USA want every nation on earth to knees , puppet to them .
Now i didnt hear about syrian war for 10 + month in news because game was over they lost .. 🤦‍♂️

I have answerd on this argument:....... and, of course, American and French assistance to SDF coalition. The latter was a threat for the Turkey, because the ghost of establishing an autonomous Kurdish state on its borders would be terrifying to her.

Nothing to do with .... about tourists. It has been clarified how they passed from Turkey to the Islamic State. There are dozens of sources and references. After all, this is how the Europeans woke up when they realized how their citizens, of Arab and North African descent, left their countries and participated in ISIS.
After all, we are not talking only about people but also about equipment and supplies.
Turkish Intervention in Syria was before the militaries operations.
If you start with that kind of with accusation let me show you something...

At first they are not accusations, but reality. The Europeans were slow to figure it out because they declared Turkey as a destination. They realized this after the terrorist attacks on their territory and the contacts that the terrorists had with ISIS.
And what did Turkey do?
He left them and they entered, while the border was closed.
And after 2019, instead of arresting or deporting them, he sent them to Greece.

Finally, Turkish intervention and occupation in Syria has another parameter. The recruitment by Turkey of ISIS members and their appointment as police officers like the below person....
