UK Defense Ministry: Ukraine's air defenses enjoying "considerable success" against Russian aircraft

Ukraine's air defenses have "enjoyed considerable success against Russia's modern combat aircraft," Britain’s Ministry of Defense tweeted Wednesday.

In its latest intelligence update on Russia's invasion, the ministry said Ukraine has "probably" prevented Russia from "achieving any degree of control of the air."

"Fighting north-west of Kyiv remains ongoing with Russian forces failing to make any significant breakthroughs," the statement added.
In a separate update posted Wednesday, the ministry warned the Ukrainian cities of Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Sumy and Mariupol remain "encircled by Russian forces and continue to suffer heavy Russian shelling."

Exactly. During Operation Barbarossa they lost more men than during the whole First World War, but they didnt give a damn. A normal administration with so much losses would be regime changed immediatly.

In ww1 they also took heavy casualties.

Despite heavy losses, the Russians are making real progress. Ukraine has a lot of work to do to take those lands back. They must take the initiative/offense instead of defence/reaction.

On the other hand, Russia lost so much, that soon they wont have equipment to hold the territories.

Russia have also done very little on the side of crushing dissent, there's protests in many occupied towns in Ukraine. 200,000 troops is a lot but it's not enough when you're fighting against a force of around 240,000 (and growing). I think in order to hold territory and control it you need to at least have more troops than your enemy.

Maintaining control at captured area
is more difficult
than capturing the exact area.
Just my theory only.

The UK may send Starstreak surface-to-air missile systems to Ukraine.

These are some of the fastest short range air defence missiles available (more than mach 4). Meaning they will be a pain for low flying Russian jets. Looks like the west is aware of the Russian Air Force's need to fly low, and is therefore flooding Ukraine with short range air defences.

Hopefully this war bogs down russia where they feel the need to transfer troops to syria and run a skeleton crew there.

It make TSK's job in Syria much easier.
