That guy knows less most of the people here, but due akp boy he got a job in SSB and thx to connections he can get latest informations.
Every year akp and SSB further postponed Altay induction time, since we all know they fucked up project and nothing good we will hear soon. Instead of Otokar which designed the tank , they chose a company without any experience in tanks. When engine change becomes a need ,that inexperi need company can do shit!!
All responsibles should be charged for treason. They let our land forces with out a proper tank for years. We gave many souls in Syrian operations due using in proper tanks .
Ssb president likes to talk , but he talks shit about Altay tank.
They fucked up f-35 , they fucked up Altay , they fucked up milgem-s project
Now they can talk ,after projects if previous ssm successes!!
They all should be questioned due decision on Altay tank and kirpi projects, the ones after 600 ,first ones were projected years ago, whick also given with out competition to BMC.
There is nothing wrong with the milgem project @Anmdt what is this guy saying?

the Kaplan MT likely not make interest fo TSK, and it is just buy by Indonesia (also in promotion earlier said tailored for special need in tropical warfare) just if Turkey need a FSV, Kaplan MT is good choice for them or just to replace old M48 position. Maybe it is suitable to used

They can used it more frequent and deploy it easily. More they make more order etc make more cheaper. hope this MT get another customer
Specificaly designed to fit the jungle, it may as well be tailored to ride on wet sand on a sunny day. The force knows no objective can be achived with the (should already be in the junkyard) M48s. However, there are priorities, and Kaplan MT project (as I sense) is not one them!

I was actually expecting this. My understanding is that the South Korean power pack was not obtained either because of the transmission problem or because of the US pressure on South Korea. On the other hand, the domestic power package would mature after 2025, which was clearly expected.

Altay was not a priority project for some time due to the miserable situation in which tanks fell in the Ukrainian war and other wars. Therefore, the money was transferred to the higher priority Siper, TFX and various drone projects.

This could be self-destructive (!), and I am ready for what’s coming… I never new that we had been using tanks in the field (tactically) as the Russians!

Search the forum, Milgem-S was the serial production of the Ada Class (3rd to 8th) and we have spoken about that for a while.

Unreal,no words.
It shouldn't be that way but is there any hope on the other direction? I would like to see a light at the end of tunnel like others in here but i dont.

Even if the Korean power-pack was delivered ,first units would be available in the inventory by 2024-2025.

Also the factory meant to carry out the serial production has been cancelled and could Tank-Palet be used for any kind of serial production at the planned pace, very hard.

It is just sad nothing else.

I mean there was obviously much more missing than just propulsion.
That is the summary for the past 4 Years.

The reality is that there are spare PowerPacks in the Inventory and if we are honest they would have used those even if it is only 10 Tanks, in order to not make it look like a complete failure.

Hell they could have even dismantled Leopard 2A4 for their 1500HP Engines since the ALTAY MBT is a much better Leopard 2A6.
ca 350 Leopard 2A4s replaced by Leopard 2A6 (ALTAY) would be a good deal especially with AKKOR, that nobody would vote against.

Yet they chose to initiate Leopard 2A4 upgrade which suggest the delay in ALTAY production is real.

4 years passed since the contracts were signed, so all the discussions and insults we faced on the other Forum regarding BMC getting the ALTAY contract or Leo modernization were for nothing and those members who opposed it were right.

Let's better not talk about the MRAP procurement without trials or why still no IFV was choosen.

Yusuf Akbaba tweeted about ALTAY MBT.
After receiving a shitstorm he deleted that Tweet.

"He said that due to delay beyond 2025 for ALTAY Turkey should consider the abandoned M60A3M Modernization."

Context: Allegedly the M60A3 Mod has been abandoned due to 750 HP Detroit Diesel Engine not being able to Carry the Weight of the Add on Armor.

Current: At IDEF21 AVDS Offered the 1200 HP V12 Engine (also used in Firtina II) for the M60A3

Perhaps its time to lock this thread until further notice.
I would really like to avoid any shitstorm here.

I think Altay project is an embarrassment which could have been handled better. However I think that tanks are less important in modern battlefield and other projects should have been prioritized like Siper and attack helicopters which Turkey lacked before.

Medium tanks or even İfv should be able to fulfill a similar role while being more versatile and mobile. It seems that when the enemy's army is equipped with anti tank missiles you are done after 1 hit anyway, unless you have active protection system.
Even in Eastern Europe with flat land which should benefit uses of tanks, the Russians can't deal with the logistics. I would like to have Altays but I don't think it was ever the most Important project

İsmail Demir says we will see the prototype Altay with powerpack in May this year. Probably for mobility tests. If everything goes well with the Korean powerpack LRIP can start in 2023.

It's an absolute disgrace how the tank project is handled. Not only Altay but also Leopard 2A4 upgrade. There are also conflicting news about BMC tank engine development, I have no hard confirmation but also there things do not go as supposed to be.

That said I do not think that tanks are less important, you can see from European countries who have abandoned the tank are now looking to procure tanks again. However the threat for tanks are different and much higher now with drones and modern fire and forget type ATGM's. Tanks have to be adjusted to the new threat situation and need a self defense pack (passive and active protection).

The role of a mobile armored cannon (tank) will always be useful for the infantry, it brings so much additional firepower that it is one of the must things to have.

2nd Half of 2023 for T0 lands us in 2025 for the first unit, again in the best case.
I agree with you. I think this statement is nothing more than a public relations effort.

IMO, Altay tank should not be produced before operational AKKOR and the terrestrial armed&armored drone concept to accompany the tank are created. In addition, tanks that can't provide countermeasures against Javelin/MAM-L style top attack missiles have no chance of surviving in the field.

In summary, even if everything is ready, the Altay project should be considered from scratch. Because curent Altay design is outdated.

With the Altay Project we want to have a tank making industry that can make the tank from A to Z.

We don't want tanks that are not made by the Turkish industry.
We don't want tanks that are lacking in self protection.
We don't want tanks that are outdated.

We have the time to sit it out until we can make all the elements of the tank ourselves.
We want a tank that has been continuously revised and updated to the latest standards of its intended use.

There is no rush when we are already on it and on track.

No rush? We are still using outdated M60A3 TTS tanks
